Thank you! Was hoping to finally see a reaction of this performance. They are amazing. Glad you enjoyed as much as I hoped :)
WOW!!! Love the band. The three are freaking amazing. No need for further instrumentation, they fill every space and let the music breath, harmonically and rhythmically. and yes, for a live show in such a small place, the sound is freaking amazing. Thanks for sharing Jeff!!! so much great stuff 🙌
YES, they are so good
i dig GoGo Penguin! They remind me a bit of Neil Cowley Trio. A very nice band as well.
Great choice! This is one of my favorite-ever Tiny Desk performances, and the whole album ("A Humdrum Star") is fantastic. This video was my introduction to the band. I was supposed to see them live but the performance was canceled due to Covid stuff. I hope to catch them when they come through eventually. Tiny Desk is known for exceptionally good recording/engineering of their performances, and this one certainly didn't disappoint.
Really nice, interesting music. Thank goodness for your channel which doesn't review just the same old stuff.
Astonishing quintett. Yep: three wonderful musicians + one experienced sound engineer + one miraculous piece of duct tape, at a certain point...
😂👍🏼✨
This is high level craftsmanship. The Musicianship..Wow! And the sound is just spectacular!
Rob the drummer is a good friend of mine, super nice guy and insanely talented. He left the band now but has a new project he’s working on called elf traps which is worth checking out
Yasss!!! Oh, I could listen to them allll day long …. 🫠🤯🫠🤯🫠🫠🫠🫠🥰.
Thank you so much for choosing to react to this Tiny Desk Concert …. mmmmm🙏🏼❤️💚🌱🤗. Great great reaction!👌🏼💚🤗 LOVED every single thing about this!!!!😍🥰🥰 What a blue print of a sound this trio has💙👌🏼🥰.
Hey... thanks yet again for introducing me to quality new music! You always come through Jeff.
P.S: I think your comments are spot on; each of these guys is extremely talented in multiple ways, and as you said, they are very creative. Thanks for this man!
Wow!!!! Just wowwww 🤯
Loved it ❤️
Oh DAMN, that groove is niiiiice! 👌🏼 👀 1:31
Love these guys. Glad to see you finally getting to them.
This has to be the reaction GOGO Penguin always deserve. Sadly, the drummer Rob Turner is no longer in the band but his new project seems super cool as well so please check that out... And I absolutely agree that tiny desk's recording techniques here is unbelievable.
Do you know the bassist Avishai Cohen? I think you might like that based on you liking this. I would recommend their live set at Paste Studios especially the tracks Chutzpan and Umray
👍🏼☺️
Avishai Cohen trio with drummer Mark Guiliana and pianist Shai Maestro are great live, back from the mid-2000's. My favorite live performances from them are Nu Nu, Smash, and Eleven Wives.
Manchesters finest, all products of the Royal Northern College of Music.
I first saw them supporting a group called Roller Trio at a 200 (standing capacity) spot called Band On The Wall in Manchester, I got a signed copy of their debut, Fanfares on Vinyl. Next up was them headlining a 2000 capacity venue for their V2 album tour. Then onto a 5000 capacity venue for the All Res tour. Just ahead of this gig they launched the Humdrum Star album at another 200 capacity venue I was lucky enough to go to with my better half and eldest daughter (Hoponopo was her go to tune to chill whilst cramming for her law degree) I’ve seen them two more times and they never disappoint. Sadly Rob Turner has left the group and been replaced by Jon Turner.
Great review, lovely to see one of our North American cousins appreciate these.
I think it's Jon Scott (not Turner). He's a worthy replacement, but I did really like Rob Turner.
@@jah9253 you’re sot on, it is Scott.
Mate, I dunno what those things are on the snare, but I’m thinking they probably add an extra bit of sizzle in place of playing quietly in a small space like that, especially as he’s constantly playing ghost notes and making the batter vibrate, causing them to bounce and fall back down… Dunno, just an educated guess lmao! 2:55
They played at my local jazz club in the early days.I have seen them a handful of times in a very intimate enviroment with maybe 30 people in a small venue
Thanks, Jeff. Tasty playing. Very enjoyable.
Hellloooo!!!! This sounds curious, you have my attention! 😏 😂
Check out their song One Percent. There's a part near the end of the song which rhythmically is quite incredible...a bunch of hesitation beats.
Funny to see Arch Echo behind you as you react to this band. I just saw Arch Echo play a few days ago in Toronto, and I am seeing GoGo Penguin today, at the same venue!
All you said Jeff! It was mesmerizing how these three guys were able to blend into each other but being so distinct and solid in their way to take thir stand in the amalgam... loving the round and full Bass sound.
GO PJ!
Found these guys a couple of years ago and was great to revisit them here.
THE TAPE I KNOW ❤
In a set of beauties, how tender and beautiful is ‘Window’!
✌👍
What’s that thing going on on the piano here? 8:30 It sounded like a M3 interval dropping to a m3? Either way, something tickled my ears lmao…
Sounds like a major 6th dropping to a minor 6th to me. Might have been a mistake but sounds great either way.
@@peterkoster3438 Yeah, that’s probably the one actually 😂
I once heard gogo penguin described as electronic music played acoustically...
Great way to describe them!
