After reading a number of viewers feedback on poor lighting, I took the original video, lightened it, enhanced the volume, and added some additional pictures. I hope this helps the community with their honda mowers.
Please see the following video link here!
• Honda HRX217K5KAA Belt...
This video covers the drive belt replacement and adjustment procedure for the Honda HRX217K5KAA push mower.
I could not find my exact model on the internet for drive belt replacement. It seems that the HRX217 is a very common model but the dash numbers afterwards vary greatly in what kind of transmission you have and the drive components are different. Big enough of a difference that I had to cobble about 5 different video's together to get enough detail to do the job myself. Afterwards I decided to put a video out to assist others that may have this sub-model as well. Hope it helps you out.
Apologize in advance for a couple areas the camera is pointed a little too far down to see what I'm referring to but I went back and included pictures with descriptions of what is being talked about in the video.
Great video. Thanks!
Can’t thank you enough for making this video. I could never have done this job without your guidance and attention to detail. Much appreciated!
Next time yo do something like this make sure you have good lighting and a tripod for the camera, intentions were good but we missed a lot because of lighting or camera angles!
Agreed, this was my first gopro attempt, not knowing how it would come out til after. Middle of winter in the garage, a lot of hours editing and didn't have the desire to reshoot the whole thing. I did spend a day and enhance lighting and sound, adding a few more pics so hopefully it helps in the updated video I did. Thanks.
Great video, save for the day when I have to replace my belt on the exact mower, Thanks.
Thanks so much for the time and effort you put in to making this process clear. (Excellent attention to the details, grease, anti-seize, etc.) 🙂
Thanks for saving a ton of guess work!
Very helpful. Dealing with the same mower with no self propulsion problem. Likely need to take it apart. Will certainly refer to this
People PLEASE if you tackle this job, I'd suggest you take photos and make notes of the steps of disassembly so you'll have a reference to help guide you. Bring your patience, too.
Absolutely!
The HRX217 5VKA model is virtually the same as the K5KAA model illustrated here.
Indeed there are varieties of HRX217 that are not the same.
Excellent video! Thx so much. I’ll be doing this repair soon.
Need to get camera and lighting worked out. Would be a good video if you make the improvements.
Thanks. This is very helpful!
thank you
Excelente explicación muchas gracias 👍👌
Dude at minute 6:42 that arm is siezed/rusted be on belief on my mower. Im heading to harbor freight to get an extractor puller and hope it comes off damaged free...(6/5/23 10:06 pm)
thanks but there's a lot of it missing because you had the camera pointed too low to see what you were doing!!! :(
Great vid!! Thanks for the tutorial. How did you know what size Bearings to order for those wheels? Are the fronts and backs the same size? Thanks
I included the part numbers in the updated video I did of this but the part numbers I got from the shop manual I bought for the mower, they are Axle Bearings 91056-vl0-b00
This video was helpful, lighting and camera work could use some improvement. Some of the tricky parts were out of the frame. But thanks for the info
Just updated this video by enhancing the lighting and audio from the original, added a few pics of some of the shots that were off screen. Was pretty novice with the gopro then.
Great video and thanks for putting this together. What was the model number of the belt you purchased?
Probably a late reply, I was just updating the video due to the lack of lighting on original, but to answer your question it was Honda Belt (22431-VH7-K00)
Thank you looks like igot the wrong belt its tight
I think I need to do this, My mower doesn't really have a variable speed is just like one speed, I try to adjust the cable but nothing change, my guess is the belt, is that why you change your belt?
If yours is like mine, you may need a new belt but there is a belt tension adjustment that I cover in the end, maybe that helps your situation.
I'm really surprised Honda went to a belt system.
Anti-seize on bolts, shouldn’t it be a blue loctite?
On my Harley it definitely is blue Loctite, lol. On this, I haven't found anything that specifies Loctite, torque, yes, but not Loctite. I even bought the shop manual, which covers much more than the Owners manual. With the exposure to wet grass, or if you hose the underside of the deck out, you will subject the bolts to corrosion, so I always put antiseize on the bolts in this area.
How often does the belt need to be replaced
Just a guess, because it would depend on how much grass you cutting each mowing, how long your mowing seasons is etc. 5 years approx. You'll know because you turning that traction dial further and further clockwise means you are trying to put tightness in the belt to get more traction. You can adjust the adjuster at that point to get some of the traction back but only so much room for the adjuster to go.
Had to stop watching though it was someone helpful. Too frustrating to not be able to have the camera on the actual repair at times. Please adjust camera in future.
You are take off all these parts wen you can go aroud
You never got the belt off and replace it with a new one, what is the point of this video?
At roughly 15:25 I removed the belt, and I also state this is a new belt I had just put on a few days prior. The only reason I shot this video is I had just removed this belt and replaced it a few days prior and with no content avail on CZcams, I took it all back apart again so others would know how to do it.
The worse lighting ever! And the camera work smh I can’t see anything
Worse lawnmower ever
I will never buy anything honda again this is an absolute train wreck just to change the flipping belt
