- With the popularity of handheld gaming on the rise, gamers have historically seen very few options with portable gaming, with only the Nintendo Switch available as an effective solution, it ostensibly seemed that there was no room left for any other competition, but in the middle of 2022, the precedent would change with the release of the Steam Deck. But why is it so significant and what are the many reasons that keep gamers so enthusiastic about the Deck?

I don't know what kind of loss they took when they sold me the Steam Deck, but they have more than made up for it on the games I have been buying because I have a Deck.
It's so crazy how having a portable device changes how we select what games we're interested in and how we play them!
Yep used to have like 5 steam games. Now I have like 40 or 50
When I first got my steam deck I spent 300.00 haha.

Steam deck OLED was way better than nintendo's. Glad I waited, let alone higher compatibility as sonic CD wasn't even compatible at launch 😂 glad I got sonic origins plus now but at least they fixed that. 1:35 can bring that keyboard with ya lol don't have to suffer and go technical like tetris movie with Famicom no keyboard Russia be like wtf 😂
Valve has hit it out of park with their updates to the steam deck. I love my deck best purchase i made in 5 years and played more games than ever
same :)
Is not just device, the community & support is out of the competition, steam deck are amazing 💯🚀
What? It's not sound promising.
I believe it was recently announced that 2 million Steam Decks have been sold, and by the end of 2023 Valve is estimating that a total of 3.5 million Steam Decks will have been sold. If viewed as a console, this means that the Deck has outsold the Sega CD and given a couple more years will be well on it's way to reaching the Sega Dreamcast or Sega Saturn sale's numbers. The Steam Deck is this generation's 4th console, and I think so long as growth continues, a Steam Deck 2 could be in striking distance of whatever is the next gen Xbox.
As a computer, should my desktop die, I'm not going to be getting another desktop, rather just going to buy a second Steamdeck for my desk as it's plenty powerful to be my main computer and the lack of windows bloatware has made me really come to enjoy the Linux experience. Just so long as Valve keeps making good decisions and just maintains their current footing, I'm a happy camper.
15 years ago I was dreaming of a portable PS2. Now it's here and it's better.
When they finally put it in stores, they will be unstoppable
they tested the japanese market instore lately and i heard it sold out. *800 units i believe* and if japan picks up on steam deck it will be huge as most of japan are mobile gamers which i believe china is as well so if they can push it there then almost ANYWHERE will be successful. i know they wont be doing that anywhere in the USA tho.. cause we got ass holes who would just smash and grab
@@AlteredCarbons holy moly
@@AlteredCarbons Nice. That's VERY good news. Japan's market is basically monopolized by Nintendo. If the Deck can sell out there, Steam has a VERY good future in the gaming market.
@AlteredCarbons that is dump if that was cause people would be doing that every day that why the Locked up stuff steam deck would sold more units if more people were able to hold in there hand the might bought one
@@AlteredCarbonsBecause they can play adult games on steam deck. 😂
I can see why immediately after I bought this thing I bought Hogwarts legacy. This thing is amazing lol.
You done no
I've spent £200 on the Steam Summer Sale and over £100 during the winter sale all for my Steam Deck, even though I didn't complete anything from what I bought during winter I went all out this Summer, I also love the handheld market, I own a PS Vita, New 2DS XL and a Switch and now my Steam Deck lets me play all these games on one device along with tons of PC games
The steam deck is my favorite tech thing I own rn. Changes my whole gaming lifestyle.
I really hope we get a steam deck with a better battery. I'll buy one once that happens. I love the steam deck but I play for long sessions so just having an hour or 2 or less than that of battery life is a no go for me. That's literally the only issue I have with it. Other than that, the device is perfect.
Seriously, this handheld for this price and these capabilities has made a major hit in the industry! I used to have maybe 2-4 games and barely play them, now I’m taking it with me everywhere I take my Switch with hundreds of hours!
Man I’m all sold. He could be talking about cheese and have me buying them all in one go.
Haha! I love this!
I watched your video and was expecting you to have 15-25k subscribers and i was shocked to see you only had 260! Keep it up!
Thanks, Barry! I really appreciate your words, mate!
This video has the quality of many big channels, I think this channel is gonna blow up
This is fantastic to hear! Thanks so much for your support!
Like for no spoilers.
You're really competent at editing, it's lean and looks good. I do hope than in the future the content is more, for lack of a better word, specific. It felt like I knew all of this information already. Looking forward to more stuff you do!
Thanks for the constructive criticism! Yep, I'm trying to dial in my next topic, and hopefully, we can see how it turns out!
Tim Sweeney: great job valve!
Also Tim: nah we aren't gonna allow anti cheat on the steam deck for fortnite
(Not a fortnite player myself but cmon Sweeney!)
Very underrated! Good job on the video!
most of my life i was a console and mobile gamer i couldnt buy a pc when i was a student
and even if i played on pc i was playing pirated games
but now after i got my steam deck i bought many games on steam due to their amazing sales and events
no need to buy 60$ game when you can get it for 10$ on sale ❤🎉
Just because they grossed that amount doesn't mean they made that amount. The lowest tier one is probably being sold at a loss. But having that many machines out there will net them a lot in game sales.
Great video. I have been so surprised how much I enjoy playing on the deck. I have discovered so many new games after buying it, I barely play on my PC anymore.
Great voice work and pacing in the video by the way.
Seriously! I had the exact experience as you did, as I find more interest in games that I more than likely wouldn't have played on my PC. Thanks for watching and your support, too!
Damn i thought this channel had 100k subs with this quality content being this high
i think it just recently got confirmed they hit 3 million units
How many units have switch sold so far, just as comparison?
@@HUYI1 Switch has sold close to 130m units so far.
They said they expect the Deck to hit 3 million units by the end of this year.
@@Galo994 wow, overkill compared to steam numbers, you can say the deck has a lot of catching up, I guess the simple use of the switch makes it sell quite well
@@HUYI1it's because first party Nintendo games. But in my opinion, the two can't compare sales in terms of devices category. Steam deck is a PC device just like laptop and 3 million is very good number relative to its category. Console depends on first-party games to sell a good number of units.
here before this video blows up♥
And you're the first one, too! Thanks for your support!
Fr
U going places
I sure hope so! Thanks for watching!
In my opinion; Best Gaming Device ever made
There, I said it.
Name me one console that can play as much, is as Open and consumer friendly as the Deck
And it got better with the emulator. Now we can play old xbox,ps games. It's heaven 😊
The fact that they left it open for everything made it wayyy better than any other console out there
I'm surprised that noone has made a statement like this yet... what steam has done is something sony, sega and many other companies failed to do... and to make it even more impressive, its a PC handheld. its not tied to a console developer and only had the PC gamerbase to rely on. the fact that its a success totally eclipses any handheld ever created in the gaming space as a feat of perfect gaming on a handheld... the switch isnt even a blip on the decks radar and nintendo clearly are terrified of the deck.
to have the gatekeepers - arguably why handhelds have been kept at such a low hardware level for so long - of handheld gaming for the last decade - nintendo - really scared of a PC handheld is unheard of and definitely warranted as the steam deck doesnt win because of hardware, games catalogue, portability, etc, etc it steamrolls the switch because its backed by steam, thats it. the secondary reason is that old song 'I can do anything you can do better' the lesser parties being consoles and nintendo's handheld, it even sometimes performs better than full PC's for the price of slightly more than a nintendo switch
greatest handheld of all time, period
Dude...i'm sorry, but no.
This device is being sold at a loss to people who just want to pirate games and play cheap indies for $5. You can't make money doing that and this $600 million is revenue from deck sales and not actual profit because they lose money on every sale. They hope to make it back with people buying games at the STEAM store but the problem with that is their audience is made up of non-paying customers who want a cheap game pirating solution(evidenced by the number of youtube videos about buying a PSP in 2023). Nintendo does not care about this product and they have no reason to do so outside of suing Valve for allowing people to pirate Zelda.
The nintendo Switch with it's "outdated hardware" is outselling every other platform with more powerful hardware AGAIN! Remember the wii being underpowered compared to the PS3 and Xbox One, The Vita being more powerful than the 3DS, the PSP being more powerful than the DS, The Game Gear and Atari Lynx being more powerful than the Gameboy, The sega master system and TurboGraphix 16 being more powerful than the NES?
Making a commercially successful console isn't about putting more power into a gaming box. It's creating fun and rewarding gaming experiences every age group and demographic can enjoy. why are pig simple games like Candy Crush, Flappy Bird, Angry Birds, Temple Run, Fruit Ninja, etc the most popular mobile games ever? Why is the most popular first person sandbox game of all time a low res game like Minecraft? NIntendo knows why, which is why a 10 year old rehash game like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the best selling console game across all platforms nearly tripling the sales of its closest competitor in Marvel's Spider man for PS4...and they're doing all this WITHOUT PRICE CUTS!
The Steam deck is a great product for what it's made for, but it's not gonna steal any market share from the Switch or any other major gaming console.
“Same strength as their main computer”
My Computer: “You underestimate my Power” *ztzzzzz~*
Edit: Steam Deck, 10/10 would recommend!
I actually love that I can play a game on my PC and later with cloud-saving play on my Steam Deck in bed or on the couch with my feet up 👍
Wow, this already looks like an underrated channel
Here before you blow up
The quality of this video is beyond me.. Great work!🎉
Thank you for the nice words! I'm glad you enjoyed the editing!
What a fun time it was during the preorder madness.
I didn’t get in on the preorder fun, but I had to wait a long time to get my deck delivered. Valve even did the order during a shortage right (ahem, Sony). They will always get my money.
I really wish they would have used the r7 6800u or r7 7735HS. I have a mini gaming PC with the 7735HS and 680m and its over twice as powerful as the deck. Gtx 1650 level performance
dayum just 88 subs
Excellent infomercial for the Steam Deck. Not being sarcastic, good job.
"Same strenght of their main computer" is a misleading statement, but otherwise great video.
WHAT?!!! 39 SUBSCRIBERS??
I've always found videos where the guy whisper yells into their mic so incredibly creepy.... Like I get it you decided you were going to do this NOW and god forbid your family member sleeping 1ft away from you get in the way but still... creepy as hell.
well, now you have 106 subs
I comment on this video to assist to gaining the favour of the Algorithmic Gods.
In all seriousness I just clicked on your video and I already like it! Hope you do well on this platform!
The Algorithmic Gods! XD Thanks for stopping by and I am very happy to have made a video that you enjoyed!
"Even the toliet"? For some people it's exclusively the toliet.
Why does your script read like a marketing blurb?
i think this is the greates product i ever bought
Thing is, I got my deck, loved it for a month and then the novelty wore off. Now it just sits in its case unused. I still just use my PC or my PS5 to game. The Deck is nice and all but the battery life is horrible. Which means ya gotta sit near a power source if ya wanna game more than an hour. Not really too practical as a handheld.
If you're playing AAA games 24/7 then yes, but I don't do that. I have never sapped my battery to zero.
I use my deck for indie games and older aaa games and I usually get 4-6 hours on it. It's only more recent games where I get sub 3 hour battery life.
"positive relationships with game developers" I'm gonna have to call doubt on that one. There are at least a few developers that have been royally screwed by valve.
3:42 whoa what case is that?
It's a case from HEYSTOP on Amazon. It's $11.99 and I think it's totally worth it!

600 Billion & they can't afford a customer service department?
Is this bloody joke?
Are u sure about that, retard? 😂
The shape sucks though 👌
Weird trackpad making it ginormous in size, hardly fit on any pocket
Steam os is needed badly. Windows 10/11 is bloatware. Steam deck has help pushed Linux and vulkan, api be more accepted and proof that vulkan.api is superior vs bloated directx 12.
But I wouldn’t called steam deck next gen system. With zen 2 4 cores/8 thread and rdna2 Gpu isn’t very future proof. It’s great system but Imo it’s already obsolete and under powered for any future games. Like new UE 5.2 games may not run very well on steam deck.
I know this video is old now and we saw Asus answer with there own version of steam deck. Asus rog ally is ZEN 4/ 8 cores/16 threads with RDNA3 GPUs is good move. The only thing wrong with the device is it’s running bloated windows 11 on it.
Steam os/Linux and Vulkan.api are the future. Ms has bullied all other OS companies out of business ( like IBM OS/2 Warp was shut down by ms Cus it was a threat to windows)
I am really looking forward when official steam os is available for desktop and mobile device. That is what needs to happen, Cus bloated windows 10 will be shut down in few years and windows 11 is even worst and most ppl do not like Win11 or even hate windows 11.
Steam os is the future. Can’t wait. Still hope Valve put out steam box that close or better performance then ps5+.
Idk valve has much margin on the thing
They sold Steam Deck at a loss, which means using revenue for the indication isn't correct.
my main goal is to blow up and act like I don't know nobody
zip it up when your done your not going to hit
No because the steam deck is making a loss like the console but they make it back from steam sales.
The steam deck has nothing to do with the Switch. People literally only compare them cause they are handhelds. A ps4 is more like a steam deck
they only compare the switch and deck together because the deck can play switch games better then a switch can *most of the time* but yes steam deck i dont think is trying to compete with them. they are targeted at different audiences. switch is targeted towards children and young adults where the deck is targeted at tech savy young adults and older adults. plus with 122million switches sold will be unbeatable by anything imp for the foreseeable future till like the switch 2 or maybe if play station game out with a new handheld cause the japanese market could probably beat it themselves as they are sony diehard's along with nintendo really anything japanese... and i dont blame them
@@AlteredCarbons I think it’s more that they are just handhelds but it is true it can emulate those games. I really don’t like emulation though I feel like it’s not the same. I’ll use it to play games like Rule of Rose or haunting ground though
I don’t think less than 2% of steam users is a success lmao
Valve loses money from the Steam deck. Lol.
that is believe is true, but they knew people would buy more games and they see i think 30% of every sale. i said i was going to play back cataloged games... know what i did... spent 300$ on games so fast i didn't even realize it till i looked again. and ima buy more. its even change what types of games i buy, i spent so much on indie titles and much older titles i would of never looked at before...
There's no evidence to support that.
Just like every other console.
"Lol" all you want but Software made it up for that. I'm just saying.
GPD WIN 2016 🤷

I'm the second
720p at 30fps is pc power lol
You didn't make $600mn if you spend $700mn to get it. Clickbait title pretending revenue equals profit.
Dude… 1 million it sold less than wiiu. This is not a success. It is another steam failure.
If you see Valve as one of the biggest game console manufacturer (which they aren't, they are just the biggest online game store), it's going to be just like that.
Overpriced for a 60hz screen. The Asus ROG Ally is a superior system.
@Alphabet no, you just can't afford it. Sorry you are poor
@@iaminyourballs u broke?
@@iaminyourballs wow, a $3k pc...are you joking? My rig cost $5k, who do you think you are impressing broke boi?
lol ok coordinates cry harder troll
Superior at getting low battery at a faster rate😂 lmao
600m revenue. kinda misleading since you know most of those are sold at or nearly a loss
wonder if this figure takes in sales from games since release as well cause i personally said not buying games and spent 300$+ so far on all sorts of new titles i still haven't played cause im emulating a game from 1992....
steam deck are here to stay, nice content🫡
to stay and be the most inferior in terms of relevance
