This episode of "Hellsing Ultimate Abridged" was typically well-written with great voice acting, but also took us on what looked like a final destination... Until, that is, we got to the end. :-)

What Alucard was talking about with God is the real story of Vlad Tepes, the original "Count Dracula" who actually existed. He was given as a tribute to an enemy country at a young age, and suffered a lot of abuse (sexual most likely included); when he came back to Walachia, he began fucking shit up against the enemies who had done that to him, the horrendous executions he gave them were the origin of his myth of being "the Son of the Dragon".

This is a really interesting piece of history! I should look up more! Isn't Vlad Tepes pronounced with a "sh" at the end of his last name?

In this story apparently the Ottomans captured Vlad and executed him "in the name of God", which angered him *a lot* because throughout all of his cruelties, Vlad never denied his belief in Christ and God; he defended the idea that the Ottomans weren't really Christians and that he was doing the Lord's Work by crusading against them, but Christian history ultimately remembers him as a demonic tyrant (again, why he was chosen by Stoker to be the vampire...); the anger at this betrayal from god, in the Hellsing series, is the reason why he decided to sell his soul to Satan at his death and become a vampire.
Of course that whole stuff is just from the series, from what I can remember the real guy died in the battlefield in one of the many wars against the Ottomans.

You're kind of right, only the Ottoman Turks were definitely not Christians, that's a well established fact actually. The Turks were Muslims.
Other than that, you're right. And ironically, it was the other Christian Kings of the time that demonized Vlad and represented him as a monster. Vlad was betrayed, his kingdom destroyed, and finally executed with the world viewing him as a demon.
That being said, he was by no means a good person. Vlad was a self proclaimed Tyrant, and took thousands of innocent people to the stakes. His cruelty towards betrayers and criminals also further cemented his place in history as a cruel, but cunning warlord who unintentionally shaped the entire history of Europe itself.
While Vlad may not have been a good dude, he did ultimately bar the Turks from entering Europe. If it weren't for Vlad, the entire continent would have been conquered by the Ottoman Empire, and world history would be VERY, VERY different.
I like how they gave Alucard a split personality in the abridged.

the song alucard is playing is called ready to die by Andrew W.K. and it's extremely fitting for him
The reason why Alucard was sad when Anderson died in the actual show (and it's been a while since I've watched it so this is from memory) was because Alucard wants to die but will only ever be killed by a human. So when Anderson used the nail and lost his humanity there went any chance for Alucard to die anytime soon.
It took way too long for me to realise that Alucard does the upturned cross as his weapon stance. Only really noticed it when they did the obvious parallel shot with Alexander during the fight.

Alucard stated him self during the fight with Anderson that only a true full blood human has any chance of defeating him. The amount of times I have refreshed this channel waiting for this damn reaction borders on desperate. Was it worth it? Yes. 10/10 would spend most of the week refreshing again.
And the credit song to this episode truly was the best tribute to an anime character i've ever seen.

Alucard's return, or as I call it "Alucard's Moonlit Sail Through London Bridge", is by far the best part in this series. Alucard slides in with style, blaring the BEST music possible, and he joins the battle with style at the perfect moment.

Seeing spaz kid back in a vid again felt almost nostalgic also I just noticed this but Anderson made the holy white cross with his blades and then alucard made a demonic black inverted cross with his guns that was awesome
18:18 when I saw this first time, I finished the prayer out loud in sync with Anderson and made the sign of the cross. It wasn't on purpose or intentional but I was doing out of habit and especially because, unconsciously, it was a situation that extremely required it.

The nail enhancements made Anderson a Literal monster of God. The holy Thorns from Jesus’ crown had been the representative here. Wrapping and coating Anderson in a holy shroud. In the original series, Anderson nearly kills both Alucard and Seras with holy fire. It’s her screaming in pain that motivates Alucard into killing Anderson. He gives his foe one last speech, and dies by turning to ash. Walter doesn’t smash his head. The only reason Alucard kills Anderson is because of the nail. He’s abandoning his humanity to kill Alucard. A sin even Alucard despises.

Also, if you want to know: the "ten years of rape" is something that may have happened to the actual real-life Vlad Tepes. He was kidnapped by turks as a boy and spent a decade as their hostage. Vlad Tepes in Hellsing explicitly did go through that and became a crusading zealot as a result.
