- Season 8 of DEATH BATTLE has come to a close. It certainly has both its highs and lows but overall it was a very enjoyable experience for me. So how do I think they compare to each other? Well let's find out! Here is my order of all the Season 8 episodes from worst to best in my opinion, complete with all my convoluted explanations and reviews. Sums everything up quite well.
This season has been pretty consistent with most episodes being either stellar or okay. Definitely one of my personal favorite seasons in a while.
I enjoyed this season in spite of some bumps on the road. Hoping the next one will try its hardest to top this one!
Geese Vs Heihachi is my personal favorite only because of how worn down each fighter is. You don't see that enough in death battle in my opinion. I feel like they should show each fighter fatigued after a while. It feels much more impactful than to just have them die suddenly when it feels like they could have kept going for 20 more hours. In Heihachi vs Geese it really felt that they were fighting to the death. Much better than Akuma vs Shao Kahn despite the fact they were entirely mortal.
Goku Black vs Reverse Flash relit a spark inside of me that I almost forgot existed, this was the most fun I had on a first watch for Death Battle since Balrog vs TJ Combo (which is still my favorite episode).
I was not expecting your number 1 to be Goku Black vs Reverse-Flash my number 1 was Dio vs Alucard both very enjoyable episodes

It’s hard whether to do saitama vs Popeye, dio vs alucard, or goku black vs reverse flash. Those 3 are hard to decide which is the top 3. Also madara vs Aizen is top 4.
Ironically both of those episodes involve an Evil man who mainly wears yellow, screws with time, has an undying hatred/obsession with the person/bloodline they keep torturing, fought against someone who hates a specific type of being, and won

Great idea on paper, kind of a mess in reality, I would have preferred if Wiz and Boomstick didn't interrupt the fight to talk more
15: Steven VS Star
Easily the most forgettable fight this season for me, I don't know why though
14: Akuma VS Shao Kahn
As above but only a little bit better done
13: Shadow VS Ryuko
From here on are the fights I liked this season, this one's mainly for the music, and it's a really well done episode overall
12: Blake VS Mikasa
Dispite the fluidity flaws, I actually enjoyed the episode more than I expected
11: Korra VS Storm
Even though I knew who was going to win, the fight still had me on the edge of my seat
10: Lex VS Doom
The "full of themselves" banter between them had me laughing the whole way through
9: Link VS Cloud
This one was just plain old awesome
8: Batman VS Iron Man
Something old and something new at the same time, and the fight was really enjoyable
7: Saitama VS Popeye
This was a fun episode, I'm just not as invested enough to put it higher
6: Yoda VS King Mickey
This one was just full of surprises and I loved it
5: Goku Black VS Reverse Flash
WHY AREN'T YOU DEAD!?!?
4: Dio VS Alucard
This one had me sweating, and I love that they got HUA voice actor to play Alucard
3: Heihachi VS Geese
I can't get enough of the music in this one
2: Iron Fist VS Po
Would have been number 1 if the music was more upbeat instead of slow and awkward
1: Madara VS Aizen
I'm glad I didn't get too into the debate, cause I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did if I had, the fake deaths had me so shocked every time

My least favorite is Korra Vs Storm because of Korra's other opponents, even if they have problems, are SO much better in my opinion. Jotaro, Rey, DELSIN. WHY WASNT IT DELSIN but my favorite was Saitama Vs Popeye where there was no problems for me

Nice list is a lie I am so disappointed in u to put a 3 minute battle above king Mickey vs yoga and to out shadow vs ryuko above literally most good battles. Your option sucks
I really enjoyed your ranking for the season, as it was fair and explained why you have chosen them. Truly surprised you agreed on Blake Vs Mikasa being the lowest part of the season, but you did great on why mostly agreed on the issues behind it. As your top five, I have to agree and it is sad Madara Vs Aizen failed in what those made in production and overall professional entertainment. However, you are spot with the top five in terms of balancing both in making the episodes overall memorable. Especially GB Vs RF, that was truly a great fight where I got to do a meme on it just for fun. Bonus, both voice actors destroyed both their performance and time itself.
Overall, love your list as it was great as last year in terms of professional view and fandom. I hope Season 9 can bring in the goods to show how strong the show will drive to stay strong. And a Merry Christmas too.

My favourite is Dio vs Alucard, me finally having a character I love not lose was just such a monumental moment of joy for myself, I love GB VS RF but I have to admit I’m just biased against it because I don’t like watching one of my favourite characters gets road dragged across the planet while hearing him scream than seeing his alive flesh torn corpse get yeeted into the sun, the only exception for me with that case is Saitama vs popeye since Saitama was just so happy and that scene before the clash just hits me different.

If goku black won (which he shouldn’t the match was one if not the biggest stomp in the series) it would maybe have been 1 but definitely 2
Also if a character I like wins I can just rewatch the fight endlessly, I don’t think I’ve ever rewatched Pokémon vs digimon despite Red being one of my favourite characters, I just don’t like seeing him die

I'm not gonna lie~ i was one of those few that got pretty upset Alucard lost. mainly for my thoughts at Alucard was unkillable, there must have been a way to kill Dio ... and i don't know a lot about Jojo since it didn't grab me like other shows. but i get why he won.
than again: i atleast knew Popeye would win due to Toon Physics and the crazy stuff he can do. i might have been salty for Alucard but there was some real salt spread when Popeye won that's for damn sure.
I also sad when alucard lose, his was my favourite character😭😭

Lex vs Doom is one of my favorites it’s just so perfect of a matchup
I personally don’t think link vs cloud should be that high. As a fan of link I absolutely hated the way they did his rundown. If you had no idea who link was and wanted to know more about him and why people enjoy his character……well to bad. I actually face palm whenever people say that link has no character and this episode didn’t help. I also don’t agree with them not including the triforce for link since you could consider it more standard than what they actually have link by a wide margin.
I agree that Cloud could win with high difficulty if link didn’t have the triforce and I think that is why they did what they did. Because if link got it then it basically becomes a complete stomp in links favor. I liked how they did cloud but it just feels like they were leaning to much into cloud fan service in the animation and music which leaves link fans out to dry. There was 1 really cool moment that link had. And I thought that his fierce deity transformation was cool but is completely ruined when cloud effortlessly takes it out. It’s a huge slap in the face to link fans and I just can’t ignore that. It’s like a 6/10 tops

I think I'm gonna do an heresy here by saying this but I don't care: Blake vs Mikasa was one of my favorite episodes, not my favorite, but one of my favorites. While the analysis section could have been done better for me, I enjoyed the animation and the choreographyies (even tho I couldn't withstand the low quality of the frames)

My personal preferred matchup for Percy is Duncan Rosenblatt from Image Comics. In terms of connections, this is probably Percy's best and their different power sets offers so much creativity in how they can clash unlike most of Percy's other matchups that just pit him against the one thing he's literally immune to.
I don't know which season 8 episodes are my favorite. Maybe Po vs Iron Fist, Popeye vs Saitama, and Mickey vs Yoda.

Overall, I'd say this is the best season of Death Battle! There are no episodes I can say genuinely dislike, and my 2 least favorite episodes I just find boring. Everything else is ranges from good or one of my all time favorites, and my top 3 are genuinely in the running for my favorite episode of all time. All I have to say now is........ when are we getting our next professional wrestling episode?

A pretty understandable ranking for Season 8. My ranking is mostly the same but with a few differences. I actually rank Lex vs Doom over Korra vs Storm cause I actually prefer Doom and Lex analyses over Korra’s which suffered the same as Goku Black and Storm’s which was just decent. I ranked Shadow vs Ryuko above Star vs Steven and Heihachi vs Geese which may just being biased but because of my connections to those two and the fact I have fewer issues with Shadow vs Ryuko than the other two, I end up putting that episode above the former. I didn’t rank Link vs Cloud higher than Madara vs Aizen because upon rewatch, I don’t like Link’s analysis and it kind of felt like a slap in the face to Legend of Zelda fans and Link as a character. Lastly, I didn’t have Goku Black vs Reverse Flash as No. 1 because Goku Black’s analysis is kind of agonizing for me to get through because of its pacing. My top 3 were Yoda vs King Mickey, DIO vs Alucard, and Saitama vs Popeye. Overall though, I understand why you would have certain episodes over others and I respect your opinion.

Honestly they're all so close in quality for me that they're interchangeable. Honorable mentions go to Goku Black VS Reverse Flash and Iron Fist VS Po, but Goku Black's analysis was awful and the ending of Iron Fist VS Po both contribute to them just missing the mark for top 3.

Blake VS Mikasa has an unremarkable pre-analysis, the worst cutaway gag of the season, and a fight with awful dialogue and worse framerate. The choreography, use of their equipment, concept of the death, and the soundtrack are all enough to keep it above my bottom two. Still a very disappointing episode. Lex VS Doom is just boring and uninspired for most of it. It's fine I guess, but there's nothing I can say that sticks out to me aside from the death. I'd argue Doom had reason to return, but Lex was lacking in reason and was certainly Doom's most boring option to return. But a consistently mediocre episode is still better than Akuma VS Kahn. The pre-analysis is better than the other two I mentioned, but the fight was shockingly stiff, bland, and lacking in any pizazz. Pretty much everything I was looking forward to was disappointing. The death sucked, the models of Oni and Akuma clash, the punches lack impact, and the effects don't look very good. The desert arena alone ruined some of the fight's potential by not having a crowd for Kahn to taunt to, clear references for scale and destruction, and you know, make it look like a tournament. And to get really subjective, I hate that they use the MK11 Kahn model. It's an ugly design and removing his helmet was the worst decision they made for the fight. That dumb face completely takes me out of the moment. Blake VS Mikasa also failed in many ways, but it reached some of its potential. Lex VS Doom was boring, but it was executed fine and can't be called a bad episode. Akuma VS Kahn was one of the biggest disappointments this season for me.
But besides those bottom 3, there isn’t a single episode I actively disliked this season. They were usually decent and occasionally incredible. Definitely one of the worst outings for their 3D episodes, but the good ones landed very well nonetheless. Good season that I'd rank just below season 6 which I feel didn't miss as much or hard as 8, which is weird to say since again, I only disliked 3 episodes this season. But depending on who you are, Aang VS Edward Elric and Ben 10 VS Green Lantern might be big enough losses to knock 6 down below 8.

How is your top 5 so much like mine, Saitama vs Popeye is my number 3 and Goku Black vs Reverse Flash is legit my favorite death battle EVER. It introduced me to my favorite DC character cause he's so petty and they portrayed him so well the track is so easy to get lost in, and the analysis was great even Goku Black's cause I love the headcanon I made that Reverse Flash changed the script so his analysis would be great but Goku Black's would have horrible pacing and jokes and it makes me love the episode so much, easily my favorite battle ever. Great video man. Also Hilariously Goku Black vs Reverse Flash WASN'T EVEN PLANNED FOR THE SEASON. They legit had one spot in the season list left and decided to make it this one and I'm so glad they did cause they made a masterpiece
So I forgot to list my well...list so here it is including ratings AND reasons...so here we go
1. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash 1000000/10...where do I even start with this absolute masterpiece...you saw above it's legit my favorite episode ever and I gave my reasons but for a brief recollection it introduced me to my favorite villian EVER, the track is my favorite from this show period and I get lost in it so easily the fight was incredible funny and awesome and the analysis was incredible I just love everything about it.
2. Dio vs Alucard 10000/10 this one is the only one I can say I changed my opinion on...DRASTICALLY. When the episode came out I didn't think much of it and moved on but on rewatch I adored it. Hell Over Heaven is an absolute banger that's easily my second favorite track of the season and it fits the tone so damn well, the fight was badass, the analysis was incredible and the jokes were hilarious. Everything is incredible and I love it so much.
3. Saitama vs Popeye 10/10 this is where I get much less enthusiastic about things in terms of love. Not to say this is bad but I don't like it as much as others do but it's still great and incredible and is the first finale to rival Goku vs Superman in greatness, however this one had two things that drag it down just a bit and one isn't that major and it's the 3D Popeye which is so cursed, the other is I don't really like everything about the track, it's intro is incredible but the pixel section kinda ruins the pacing. Nonetheless it's a great episode and was certainly deserving of being a finale.
4. Korra vs Storm 10/10 Hold up, I know not many people adore this one but I hold this one close to my heart because of Korra being in it and the animation being stellar, the voice acting is as usual with this season, PERFECT. (Except for one but we'll get to it much later) While Korra's analysis was paced weird, hearing about them talk about her just made me happy, though I know it's objectively probably not even close to number 4.
5. The controversial one 10/10...ok but for real Madara vs Aizen was pretty dang good yeah? The track is stellar the voices sound intimidating in the best way possible, the fighting while janky is quite good and the handrawn elements are great. The cutaway in Madara's is the best one of all season, and Aizen's cutaway was pretty funny.
6. The 4th Batman episode 9/10 God this episode is really freaking good and I'm biased cause my favorite heroes of Marvel and DC going head to head is hype AF for me and I was rooting for Tony and I popped off when he won, the voice acting is great for this entire season except one that thankfully got stuck on the worst episode, but the sprites were gorgeous the animation was so smooth and the action was great and the track sounded pretty good, haven't listened to it yet though but it backs the fight well.
7. Lonk the hero of time huh? vs Clod Strofe 9/10 this fight was good, and no I'm not biased cause Clod won I prefer Link but this fight was just so fun and the animation was smooth and the interactions were great and the pot moment had me laughing for a full minute. The problem isn't with the fight it's with Cloud's analysis' pacing being so bad. The track was good too I guess.
8. Po vs Iron Fist 9/10 this episode was just dumb fun, Po was a treat to see and Danny seems cool too but Po stole the show in the analysis and the fight and it would be a 10 but Po being terribly out of character saying "OH BOY CAN'T WAIT TO TELL SHIFU I KILLED A MAN" just made me cringe, the track was also...fine.
9. P R E D I C T A B L E 8/10 This fight has a good track and Gesse's analysis was good but Heihachi's SUCKED, the fight however, was great. what make me not like it as much is how little I care about these two.
10. Yoda vs King Mickey 7.5 HOLD UP HOLD UP HOLD UP put your pitchforks down, I see the appeal but this doesn't click with me the track was meh and the fight was great but it just doesn't really click, it's great don't get me wrong but it's just not my cup of tea....I don't drink tea
11. Shadow vs Shadow's favorite anime's protagonist 7/10 E D G E that's the word that comes to mind with this and also the Shadow dub, otherwise I never hear the track and it seems ok the voice acting was as usual great but the sayonara should've been Shadow cause Ryuko saying it made me cringe, the analysis was ok too I guess.
12. Steven vs Star 7/10 This one is good, the track is cool but the fight is flawed, the hand to hand bit is genuinely awful and the death came legit out of nowhere. The voice acting and transformations were INCREDIBLE though, so it has that going for it.
13. OH YEAH! 6/10 this episode is a Boomstick's Dad Joke, do I need to explain why it's so low, I also just don't care about it and it doesn't seem deserving of episode 150. The voice acting was great though.
14. Lex Loser vs Doctor Doofenshmirtz 5/10 this fight was not very good but not bad either, the analysis honestly stole the show here but 2D Boomstick is cursed. The track fits the tone but the voice acting was as usual stellar.
15. Blake vs Mikasa 3/10 this fight has me emote literally 0. Other than laughing at how bad it is, I don't like the track at all the fight was boring but the voice acting was good which means it BARELY places above the worst.
16. Akuma vs Shao Kahn 2/10 because it's not Shadow vs Mewtwo level but it gets damn close. Akuma's analysis was the only good thing about this episode. The animation was horrible the Shao Kahn voice was the only bad voice the entire season, Akuma's was ok and the cutaways SUCKED. I hate this episode especially when it came out after the masterpiece that was Dio vs Alucard, the one thing I cared about was Korra being announced for the next fight.

I funnily enough had the full list in my notes on my phone for a while (yes me and my very good friend memed on it for being so ungodly awful) but I can agree Cat Girl vs Grapple Hook discount Storm spears is probably worse than it but the voice acting is at least average whilst Shao Kahn's voice is shit and Nemesis explained it best. Number 1 was also very clear cut as I have made it very clear to my friend (Who I got into death battle via Goku Black vs Reverse Flash which I really appreciate it for) that I ADORE. I just realized I went on another tangent, sorry but I did want to go more in depth on the top and bottom as I think they were pretty bare bones on explaining why they were where they were.

It was real difficult to decide if I enjoyed the first half or second half the best given how great this season was. Not every episode stood out, but you can't deny how much effort and attention season 8 got!

Like the only death battles this season I had a problem with was saitama vs Popeye, Korra vs. Storm, Yoda vs King Mickey, Steven vs Star and that's basically it but the rest of the fights I like so I agree with this entire list but the characters I'm happy that won was Blake, Shao Kahn, Shadow, Dio, Doctor Doom, Po, Madara, Cloud & Reverse Flash and that's basically it but the other fights i don't really care about because some of my favorite characters loss

Honestly this was a season of stomps. Admittedly most if not all episodes were well done, and the only ones I dislike are for personal reasons. I get the "legacy fight" hook, but some of the match-up I just couldn't get behind.
That's perfectly valid, I definitely found myself feeling that way a few times this year. But thankfully it was still enjoyable to watch!

15. Shao Khan vs Akuma
Honestly I can’t even think of any positives in this fight aside from the voice acting for akuma and the visual of of oni’s eyes in the smoke and literally everything else was just a negative (and the opening of such wasted potential for a really good 3 in 1 reference)
14. Batman vs Iron Man
This only beats Shao Khan vs Akuma because
A. The sprites look and act good
B. It at least had some good parts (even if most of them get ruined when you think about it)
C. The portrayal of Iron Man
D. Suit yourself
But easily the biggest problem with the episode is batman felt nothing like himself aside from the start

What we did get in the fight was pretty good but it felt forced (including the death for a joke fight) and got drowned out by the pacing and boom sticks dad plot line (also between this and Ironman vs Batman I’m not sure which had more wasted animation potential)
12. Korra vs Storm
Korra felt good during the episode but storm just felt really really bland to me (character and offensive wise) and well seeing dead characters walk around the spirit world was cool it also felt like a miss opportunity to let storm (arguably the most caring X-men member) see and briefly interact with the dead X-men members
11. Dr Doom vs Lex Luther

The only problems I have with this are that it feels like there’s some bad frame rate at times and that dumb line about hearing but aside from that I don’t feel like any truly negative or positive came form this episode to make it feel bad or good

Maybe it’s just the past shadow episodes blinding me but I’ll just leave it here
8. Po vs Iron Fist
Although the fight was Great it did feel like Po vs someone with the skills and powers of Iron fist instead of Danny himself (also the ending as a whole is probably the worse of the season)
7. Goku Black vs Reverse Flash
Arguably the best portrayal of each character this season is what saves this from being an OK episode (everything else was just style over substance)

I’m just going to leave this here because I feel like my personal bias would be the reasoning for a higher ranking
5. Popeyes vs Saitama
The only things holding this back is that they didn’t capitalize of Popeyes more wacky abilities and the sprite portion of the fight didn’t add much aside form shock value and a way forced way to get them fighting in the ocean (also the glow from saitama eyes during his death was pointless)
4. Madara vs aizen
Aside from aizen looking off (a few times) and the slowish start everything ranged good to great (and in my opinion that visual with aizen and madara laughing is an all time visual)
3. Cloud vs Link 2
If it weren’t for the ending being as bad as it is it would’ve been amazing

The usage of the real vampire line with Dracula showing up just felt forced but nearly everything was so amazing but it also felt like it didn’t go as far as it could

1. Yoda vs King Mickey
Easily the best premier episode (Even beating Dante vs Bayonetta which I also consider to be an all time great) and it such a near flawless episode that it feel so surreal to happen this late into death battle history

Saitama vs Popeye is my favorite for this season.
For Korra VS Storm, I was just bored. I felt bored while watching the analysis, and the fight felt like a very long one
My favorite episode was Steven Universe Vs Star Butterfly.

16) Ryuko vs. Shadow (There hasn't been a single DB Shadow episode I can say I found any good. Vegeta only had redeeming value on an ironic level and not a legitimate one. I will say Ryuko was not as terrible as Mewtwo, but it suffers from the inverse problems that one had.)
15) Akuma vs. Shao Khan (predictable and janky)
14) Lex Luthor vs. Dr. Doom (Lex stood no chance. Dr. Doom was the only redeeming factor from landing this episode any lower. FOOTDIVE!)
13) Blake vs. Mikasa (The worst I can say about it is that it isn't memorable, even if it's far from terrible.)
12) Madara vs. Aizen (I couldn't care less about the matchup or the respective series, but at least I can compliment the fight quality.)
11) Korra vs. Storm (This is only above Madara vs. Aizen because I like Marvel and I can compliment this fight quality as well.)
10) Steven vs. Star (I don't have many negatives for this. It's just that other ones were more enjoyable, even though I enjoyed Steven Universe Future.)
9) Dio vs. Alucard (Again, this was not terrible. I just didn't have any investment in the characters even with such a hype fight.)
8) Link vs. Cloud Remastered (I wasn't as invested as I was with Mario vs. Sonic Remastered, but this was a good fight nonetheless.)
7) Macho Man vs. Kool-Aid Man (Just silly, cartoony, over-the-top shenanigans; Happy Episode 150.)
6) Po vs. Iron Fist (This felt both cartoony and played straight at the same time, and it was a fun watch.)
5) Heihachi vs. Geese (Kings of Iron alone would have been hype on its own, but the fight was breathtaking!)
4) Batman vs. Iron Man (Congrats on getting me hyped on the fight of a matchup I expected to be boring!)
3) Goku Black vs. Reverse Flash (Major props for making a matchup where I didn't care about either combatant that had a fight that got me invested AND hyped!)
2) Saitama vs. Popeye (As Popeye was my favourite Fleischer Studios cartoon, this episode was a joy to watch, even if I don't enjoy One Punch Man.)
1) Yoda vs. Mickey (This was nothing short of a spectacle. KH Mickey is my favourite Mickey incarnation, and I do like Yoda quite a bit. There wasn't a single part of this episode that disappointed me.)

I'm sorry but I think Yoda vs king Micky is the most overrated death battle of all time not saying it's bad but is not nearly a masterpiece I say it is 7/10 and nothing more personally number 1 is a tight race between dio vs Alucard and goku black vs reverse flash but I think the latter is my favorite

I'm just gonna give you my two cents on the Ryuko vs Shadow Fight, I hated it.
I have no desire to fight anyone in the Comments if they do like it, but at the same time, no one here can convince me not to hate it.
I mean, Shadow was defeated by Vegeta and Mewtwo. Of all the Episodes for Shadow to get his Revenge/Comeback, why against Ryuko? If anything, I don't believe Ryuko is weaker than Mewtwo (Vegeta maybe, but Mewtwo?). So will anyone tell me that the Shadow vs Mewtwo Fight was a Mistake? I won't disagree with anyone who does, but you guys gotta explain it.
