@craiganthonyevo Maldini, in his words, said Messi is better than Maradona at the 2015 Balond'or ceremony. I don't know what you'd make of it. Most quality footballers and coaches that're not directly associated with CR7 or Maradona have no problem saying Messi is GOAT, that too since Messi was 23. Imagine being called GOAT at '23'!!

Maradona is really the best player of all time, probably a bit underrated because of his shitty charachter off the pitch, but that guy on the pitch was simply incredible he and the ball were like if it was a part of his body simply incredible, he was in risk every match cause every time rivals tried to injured him. Most of people that dont say he is the best probably didnt saw him playing or are born since 1995, only rate him cause his character, are messi or ronaldo fanboys(most of people) or are english. And i dont approve drugs, but he started arround 1990 and consuming drugs dont make you better on the pitch or give you some advantaje, but in his prime he didnt in 1984-1989 he was too good. Just imagine if he wouldnt have drugs he would have been unbeatable he even said "if i didnt do the bad things i made, pele would not even come second." In Napoles people have the "maradonian religion". But still Messi is very good and i am argentinian that leaves in england btw jaja. My top 5: Maradona, Messi, Pele, Cruyff and brazilian Ronaldo. Also CR7 and Zidane had to be on the top 10!

Messi is the best ever.Maradona was a stronger version of messi maradona had to endure more physical abuse tackling wise.people trying to injure him etc and he won a world cup he didnt have the consistentcy of messi though. But messi is better i think if it wasnt for his argentina team mates like higuain who cant finish a chance for the life of them messi would have won the world cup in 2014. But also because he is so consistent for his age the amount of goals he scores year in year out he has a better ratio on scoring than cristiano at this point of their careers. He can dribble like no one else. Assists. Free kicks. For me he is the most talented player i have ever seen. So for me messi is the best ever

Diego Maradona was at his peak for 3-4 seasons, doing amazing things like winning world cup '86 or Serie A with Napoli...Messi , on the other hand, is the Maradona of '86 every moment, almost every match that he has played, for the last 14 years...absolutely incredible ... and considering Barcelona to be such a big club in Europe, where all the great footballers of the world dreams to play, Messi has remained their central force for more than a decade now..that is no less a feat than winning a league for Napoli..International trophy for Argentina??To summarize in brief, Messi pulled out almost every bit of energy from every tissue in his body to win the WC , but the team around him let him down in every possible way ... also, he does not have the champions luck in WC, which Maradona had in '86 ...that hand of God moment..But , fortunately, Messi being a freak of nature, at this moment is still going great guns, (just finished off watching Barcelona vs Liverpool , champions league 2019, whatta free kick ), i still believe he'll throw a last attempt for Qatar WC 2022...The most important yardstick for evaluating a sports man is consistency, and there's no one beating Messi there

I'm from Argentina and I think that Messi is much better than Maradona. More goals, more consistence, more athlete, more assistances. Maradona played excellent World Cup '86 and he became a sport hero, that is the difference in Argentina. Messi could not yet give us any cup, except for one golden medal in an Olympic games. I consider Messi, in the pitch, is Maradona plus Batistuta, he can create the attack of the team and he can score, too...

Really interesting insight from a great manager who was also a pretty good player in his day. I can't understand some of the ignorant comments here from people saying the English hate Maradona. Those of us who actually saw what he did on the day can only agree with Maradona's response to what he did - he was mortified. After blatantly tipping the ball in with his hand, almost for a laugh, he was the first person that ran to the referee to pointing out that it was a hand ball and the goal shouldn't stand. There was, at the time (and probably still today) massive pressure put on officials to ensure that England were officiated against in every decision because of the way our press was uncovering fraud in both FIFA and the IOC. His second goal you can only marvel at no matter where you come from. If you play like that and it doesn't result in a goal, you've been robbed. In my opinion, Maradona had the sh1t kicked out of him in just about every game he played. If he was playing today under the current rules for both offside and tackles from behind which make it far easier for creative and intelligent players now than in his day, I believe the consensus would easily show him to be better than even Messi. My own preference for the greatest of all time, though, goes to Ronaldinho. His skill on the ball, tricks, artistry and just the sheer joy he brought onto the pitch, his character and attitude spoke volumes of him as a man and lifted everyone who played on the same pitch. Elsewhere on CZcams there is a plethora of vids showing Ronaldinho at his best, well worth a look for any fan.

Although he shone brightest for a time his overall career was a tale of unfulfilled brilliance due to living a certain lifestyle that involved partying, drugs, etc. To be fair there were some unfortunate injury's and illness too, especially during his time at Barcelona, but he wasted his god given brilliance and large parts of his career on his own.
