Gamal Abdel Nasser Hussein (15 January 1918 -- 28 September 1970) was the second President of Egypt, serving from 1956 until his death. He planned the 1952 overthrow of the monarchy, and was deputy prime minister in the new government. In 1953, Nasser introduced far-reaching land reforms. Following a 1954 Muslim Brotherhood-led attempt on his life, he ordered a crackdown on the organization, put President Muhammad Naguib under house arrest, and assumed executive office. A June 1956 public referendum approved both the new constitution and Nasser's nomination for presidency. - Zábava

Whenever an american or british documentary tells me this person is a dictator I instinctively think no this person was probably a great leader for their country.

I just wanted to say the same . Whoever nation tried to live out of the British colony and wanted no relation with them they tried always to break them, abd alnasser was a monster to the west power.
And like all great leaders, he started many wars (but lost them all), truly a credit to his country
American? hahahaha !!! you do realize that because of the Americans he stayed in power right? since he wanted to nationalize the Suez Canal The world powers of France and UK (back then) almost blew Egypt a new ass hole, without the US intervention that would have happened, Israel back then also was planning something against Egypt to assist the brits and French. Now, is Naser a hero? yes and no. for example to Christians he was evil and for many reason. His actions also was the reason for the fall of Libya and Iraq monarch. I would say 50% hero 50% evil.

Nasser was the most loved Arab leader in the last 1400 years and the only leader who stood firm with the masses and in favour of social justice. He achieved independence and built the High Dam and made Egypt an industrial power house and proved that the Arabs can be united which sent shock waves across the world. His ambitions alarmed world powers and brought his defeat in 1967 and his early death in 1970
Not the best in the last 1400, there are many great leaders whom have written their share of history with golden letters...
Yet is is the last great in Egypt.
You do realize the US also protected Naser form the Brits and French, but the US had different plans, but due to its protection made this possible.

@@johnvines4875 The US thought initially it can compromise Nasser to its advantage but the man was born to be independent and was immune to personal corruption (the words of CIA official). When he died he didn't own a house and still kept his 1946 second hand Austin car

EVERY NATION NEEDS THIS AND DOES THIS!! even Egypt. Now, the US is one of the best allies you can have (maybe not pure in nature), and the US has proven this over and over, go ask the Saudis, go ask the Emirates. Nasser to this day sends chills down imperialists spines. Nasser was a leader for the people chosen by the people. They try and defame his character because he wouldn't sell out his people and stood for a United Africa.
He cared about arabs not Africa if he did care about Africa he would’ve used his power to unite Africa but he instead united the arab race which is why the Arabs see him as the saviour of the arab race and one of the best Arab leaders

Nasser always kept his word with African and Arab leaders.. Nasser forces literally saved the lives of the Children of Lumumba and Nkrumah after the aforementioned leaders we were brutally deposed..He could have turned away and let them be killed.

Nasser turned out to be a failure unfortunately. Arabs had been weak and backwards----- and Nasser was a failed leader. His Pan -Arab dream was a failure unfortunately. In modern industrial world, Nasser could not do much anyway. Nobody in Arab world could do much anyway. It was not Nasser who failed ----- Arabs failed Nasser.

After Nasser kicked out imperialists British out of Egypt, 1950s. The British invaded Cyprus, Greece. The British tortured many Greeks to death, innocent children women, old men and old women, and other civilians. Respect to the Arabs from Greece. Nasser has been demonized by the US because not only did he nationalize the Suez Canal for the Egyptian people, but he also stood up to America's surrogate state of Israel. Nasser should be lionized for his bravery.

8 minutes into this video and not pleased. I was hoping for something more educational rather than pure propagandized nonsense..... Even more since it isn't easy finding many English documentaries about Nasser.
Hard to believe that Egyptians didn't like the socialist help of the Soviet Union, which built the Aswan dam and modernized the whole country. Cairo was like Budapest or Belgrade by the 1970-s, while look at the rest of Africa.
