    You make among the best videos: your voice is clear, the pace (audio and images) is correct, always referring to real world usage (like the ibis for walking...) and you do not pretend to be the main subject of the video (it is rare to see you on your videos). The Hybrid Shooter, what else? Thank you

    I switched from a Sony A600 to a Panasonic GX85 and haven't looked back. The ONLY thing the Sony A6xxx series was better was the grip, it's the only thing I miss - the Panasonic grip is OK but the Sony grip was better to use. Overall, with he Panasonic I have a better, more affordable lens choice which is the most important thing.

    Thank you for this video. I have watched it several times.
    Today I received a GX9with the kit lens. I have the PL 15 and PL12-60mm lens too. I enjoy street photography and will use the GX9 with the PL15mm lens. I looked at the Olympus 17mm pro lens because I prefer that focal length. The Oly is bigger, heavier, and more expensive than the PL15mm lens. So I purchased the PL15mm lens. This is as close as I will get to owning a Leica camera.
    Of course, I am a little disappointed the Panasonic has no audio in jack. It would be nice to have as the video looks so good. I am a photographer vs. a videographer but intend to do some hybrid. As a street photographer the size and weight are perfect. Not mentioned in your review, I LOVE the L monochrome D setting. My favorite B&W simulation. It is very contrasty and crushes the blacks.
    Charging the battery now. Ordered some replacement batteries and an additional charger. Can’t wait to hit the streets with my GX9.

      I owned many Sony and even more Panasonic cameras. Tested out most of the current available models. Sold all Sonys, kept most of the Panasonic. After all, I really prefer Panasonic cameras overall. Sporadically, the Sony cameras have an edge in some specs. But that doesn't outweigh the user experience at all. As mentioned in this video, Panasonic is much more user-friendly. I even owned the recent Sony ZV E1 (Full Frame with the praised A7Siii sensor) and decided to stay on mFT with my G9, GX9 and GX800. I dont have any issues with the AF. It's not as perfect as Sony AF, but totally usable. There are so many reasons I prefer mFT over the other sensors. Especially since Panasonic brought the 9 mm 1.7, which I always use for video.
      Overall, from my perspective, I think you took the right choice.

    I have had Sony and Panasonic cameras, I currently have the A6500, I recently sold the GX8 and although the sensor of the A6500 is better, I prefer Panasonic cameras, they handle the color better, the menu is superior and I feel they are better designed cameras for user comfort (I have used them more in still photo than in video). Where I see an advantaje for A6599 is in the video, the GX8 share the GH5 sensor but this is limited for video. I dont know if in the GX9 the theme of the video will have improvements with respect to GX8 and if this is near to the A6500 video capacities.

      Thanks.. After shopping around for sometime, I really think what I mention.. Paying more to get other RF like Fuji GFX50R XE3 or Leica M/Q may get diminishing return for most non-pro people.. Paying less to get GX85, M6, or A6000 may have outdated sensor or features or older UI.. So, GX9 is just sweet spot for RF now, both still and VDO, IMHO.. I am waiting if any manufacture will make FF MLR RF style in the future.. Hopefull Pana will make one, S1X..

    Another excellent comparison. I only take one issue. It’s not a crop sensor if the lens and sensor are a match. What is cropped about it? When you fit an aps-c lens onto a M43 camera, that’s a crop. No one calls the sensor in a smartphone a crop sensor. Just my thoughts.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  Před 5 lety +2

      Thank you, that is just commonly accepted terminology, it is smaller than full frame, it is called crop sensor...

    • @KeithWongWL
      @KeithWongWL Před 5 lety

      Technically, there is no such thing as a crop or FF lens. There are lenses designed to work best with the APSC or M43 sensor and will heavily vignette if used with FF. But focal length is expressed in relation to FF measurements.
      However, crop sensor is industry lingo for sensors with a crop factor of >1.0 (ie. smaller than FF).

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  Před 5 lety

      Not really, focal length is just physical parameter, it has nothing to do with full frame sensor size.

    So glad you made this video! I literally went camera shopping today and am trying to decide between these two, along with the Fujifilm X-T20. I have been testing the GX9 for a week and I love it - Idk why it's not more popular. But the a6500 is so sharp and fast, maybe I need that one to get sharp images of birds flying during sunset and stuff like that... I don't shoot much video these days, but I want to... And if the stabilization and screen aren't so good, maybe the a6300 is a good option?? Man, it's so hard to choose! I shoot mostly landscapes and architecture. Sharpness and portability are my biggest concerns. I'm still not sure...

    I just bought the previous model as a second camera. The Panasonic GX80 in June 2019 lol. It's 340 euros with a kit lens in my country nowadays. I find this to be scandalously low price for such a capable camera :) But for the particular comparison in the video - I would take the Panasonic, mainly because of easier handling and better lens selection. I really like the APS-C bodies of Sony, but they seemingly refuse to make proper lenses for them.

    • @TheHybridShooter
      @TheHybridShooter  Před 5 lety

      Yes, the lack of APC-S lens selection is a disadvantage, but you get a lot of great 3rd party full frame lenses and use those on APS-C.

      GX80 is a great little camera the gx9 has virtually no advantages it is heavier has a swivel viefinder which is not needed and if you can tell the difference in image quality in a side by side i would be suprised as i have owned both cameras and prefered the gx80 handling and weight i also owned the gx8 bigger heavier but still nice all the same gx80 is best street camera in the mft line in my opinion except in low light then the gx9 is better in this regard also forget long exposures unless you like snow in your photos.

      As you do have both the A6500 and GX9 let me ask what your impression on low light focusing is with identical lenses on both? A lot of people just tend to put it off with mentioning the A6500 has PDAF, which is true but does actually not ha e to mean necessarily better/faster/more accurate.
      Having the A6500, in low light it seems to hunt sometimes quite a while with the Sigma 56mm.

    Great comparison. I feel if the A6500 would have a decent 17-55 f2.8 zoom for travel it could be more competitive than the GX9. Anyway both great options. Does the Panasonic allow exposure compensation in M mode with Auto ISO? I like the substance rather than clickbait, and actual images rather than narcissistic video selfies of your review. Not your requested 17-55/2.8, but the 16-70/4Z pairs well with the a6500 to provide a very useful walkaround zoom range, and as it's designed for APS-C, it's quite compact. It's one of the lenses I have for when I want a smaller option than my usual FF kit.

      stefano giovannini, for me the 16-70/4Z is an acceptable compromise on IQ vs size & convenience. From reports, the Σ18-35 may be better, but, as you've noted, the price is bulk. As soon as my small system starts to get bulky, it fails its purpose *for me* and I'll decide to use my α99ii with its bigger faster lenses.
      FWIW, I also have a preference on APS-C for a 16-xx zoom rather than an 18-xx zoom as the wide end is more important *to me* than the long end when I travel.

    Which is better for travel? The G85 or the GX9?
    I'm planning to get one of the two and can't decide. I'm more into stills and IQ in high light situations (i.e. beaches, mountaineering, etc.) and low light (i.e. restaurants, the beach at night and the usual night travel in the city and rural areas).
    And is the standard Lumix 12-60 kit lens great for said use or should I upgrade to the 14-140 LUMIX G VARIO or something else?
    And please note the Sony cams are a hard sell for me. I love their speakers and headphones (I got the XB30 and planning to get the WH-1000XM3 headphones) but their cameras are just too.....well, expensive. And the lenses are a bit underwhelming with the best performing ones already way out of my budget.
