    I did a project with the first green microwave sensor shown. Worked amazing for sensing people coming into a room or for what I needed it for... to sense people walking down a forest path.... one problem...as soon as the environment around was wet or damp (like rain or morning dew) it was completely blind. I assume what is happening is the microwave signal is being absorbed by the human or wet surface so both send back a shadow....so no movement detected when everything was a shadow. Worked fine in the garden when dry. One to watch out for. Otherwise awesome!

    Was not aware of the mm wave sensor. I have been trying to get other sensors mentioned here to work but there was always some kind of an issue or other. This mm wave sensor may be just what I want. Thank you! Off to order one.

    Very helpful. I see all these components for sale but it's hard to tell from the datasheets how they perform in actual use.

    BTW, the dome on a PIR sensor is not often a Fresnel lens, except in longer range types ... The dome has multiple small convex lenses, pointing in several directions... these focus the IR in different places, and, as a target moves across the field of view, the "hot spot" moves across the two, or more, pyroelectric sensors, and the difference signal, gated by time (slow-enough changes do not trigger the output...high pass filter), generate a pulse output.

    Great comparison :-) Though i think the Radar sensor can be changed by altering the resistor or capacitor on the board.

    Great video! I have a question whats the best sensor you can recommend me that detects humans even in the dark and even if that sensor is moving because i want to put it in my security patrol robot project because we are having a hard time choosing a sensor that can detect effectively while it is in motion

      Time of flight laser is probably best, as it gives distance and speed, so you could probably subtract out your vehicle speed...ST has some TOF sensors that can track several targets, giving distance and direction, do you could use a bit of trigonometry to subtract out your robot's *velocity", and determine if the detected target is moving either toward, or away from, your robot... important, because you may want to detect only targets that are in motion... Another possibility is to use the TOF sensors to map the area of operations, and look for anomalous targets?
      Helpful?

    Thank you for this video. Just an important correction regarding the mmWave sensor you mentioned. It can’t detect people while not moving. In fact, it’s so accurate it can detect the movement of your fingers! I doubt it can detect a still sleeping person.

    • @yamitokyoo
      @yamitokyoo Před 4 měsíci +1

      I don't understand your point.

    • @yrkalaji
      @yrkalaji Před 4 měsíci

      I mean it can only detect movement. For example, If someone is working on a computer, it can detect the movement of fingers on the keyboard. But in a sleeping person situation, there is no movement thus it won’t detect the person.

    • @yamitokyoo
      @yamitokyoo Před 4 měsíci

      @@yrkalaji It's actually tested. mmWave sensor can detect person that is not moving. The signal frequency is 24Ghz that is so high it can detect a single movement even you breathing. It has three signal outputs based on what I saw. First is it detects if there is a person in motion. Second, it detects if there is a person but not in motion, and lastly it detects if there's no person at all.

    The problem I found with PIR sensors is that the standard ones are too cheap and unreliable, especially when range of over five metres is required. I upgraded to a Panasonic EKMC1603111 and despite having no adjustability it reliably detects movement up to 12 metres or more. Including vehicles, which is something the standard sensors couldn't do even on maximum sensitivity.

    What a cool video. I have been searching for a device that would detect a fuel pump at a gas station. I have a long motorhome and it is hard to judge how far to pull up. Which one of these sensors you mentioned would be best for that application, about a 5 or 6 foot detection range?

    • @Core-Electronics
      @Core-Electronics  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That is going to depend on where you are mounting the device. The Laser distance sensor and ultrasonic sensors can be mounted on the side of the home and detect when you pull up alongside the pump, they have up to a 12 ft range. If this was being mounted on the inside of the home, the laser can go through a glass window, but the ultrasonic sensor will be blocked. A camera, display and raspberry pi might be another option to watch from that side as you pull upto the pump.
      Very creative and unique project! Best of luck!

    If I recall correctly, you can change the sensitivity and duration of the pulse on the RCWL-0516 radar sensor by changing the values of the resistors on it. My only complaint about that sensor is it has a wide detection bubble around it, and since they can "see" through walls, you can't confine their detection area to a single room.

    Hi, I loved the videi, could help with this?
    I need to place sensors in a mining truck to detect people from up to 20meters inside a net of tunnels with a harsh environment; humidity, dust, tiny rocks flying around, big drills, other vehicles, welding, no light in some areas and very bright light in others, Bluetooth and RFId active tags and antennas everywhere, radio signals in every direction plus lots of noise and residual explosive shockwaves.
    Any recomention?

    • @lohikarhu734
      @lohikarhu734 Před 14 dny

      You need better range than most of These...you might be able to get a TOF laser sensor with good range, but you will always have a SNR problem if you have objects that subtend the same "visual angle" as a person, like a rock that is nearby... I've worked in a mine...

    I need a minute to sit down & figure out cat defenses. Whatever I walk on, sit on or lay down on, they can too, but their understanding of the rule is that it applies when I’m present to enforce it. They’re smarter than I am & I’ll be the first to admit it, but I have opposable thumbs & a credit card for sensing & targeting technology.
