I love this episode. It takes the concept of overthinking something small in a relationship, which is something we all do, & amplifies it. Imagine being able to review the things that you would normally tell yourself aren’t a big deal. It’s so relatable.

    • @neranderthal

I agree it's such a great reflection on rumination and how little details to unanswered questions can drive us mad, but was it really something small? After all, his baby wasn't his, he was cheated on, and she manipulated him multiple times. I think it's a reflection on the whole double edge sword nature of it.. to risk coming off insane to find out the truth, or to bottle it up and let it eat away? There's no winning.

I can't believe people actually think that Liam's the bad guy. It's so easy to label him as an abuser because of his behavior throughout the episode but all of this is the effect of the emotional and psychological abuse that Fi put him through for months, maybe even years. She constantly manipulated, lied and gaslit him to escape any sort of accountability. A violent or aggressive response to an abusive partner is called reactive abuse and it seems that Liam was a victim of that and had been subjected to her manipulations and infidelity in the past, like that Dan dude and of course Jonas. Also, when he leaves for 4 days, why does she assume that they're on a break? I don't recall him or her saying that they were so why would you go and sleep with someone else, conceive a baby and then trick your husband that it's his? Like, that's abusive af right there! Men can be victims of abuse as well.I just think that if the roles were flipped, people would be cheering for Fi but because Liam's a dude, people aren't. This is why men are afraid to talk about their experience with abuse, especially if the abuser's a woman. People just don't take men's experience with abuse seriously. Fi was abuse af and got her karma.

Women do not have the ability to feel accountable. But just because we're hurt doesn't give us license to violently lash out. Being a man means taking the hits sometimes and walking away when the trust is broken. In my view, he is the villain for becoming violent instead of trusting his gut, and for trusting his emotional state to a woman in the first place.

    • @vaishx
      @vaishx Před rokem +25

@@bestlaidplans4511I agree about using violence as evil, but being manipulated by a toxic woman does NOT make HIM a villain. Never underestimate how people can manipulate anyone. It’s a scarily real thing that no one knows until it’s too late. The reality is they’re all evil. No one is the good guy in this situation. Fi has horrible friends, slept with a toxic fuck boy, and lied to her husband on top of that. Jonas was of course a toxic fuck boy who no woman should be around, and Liam was an insecure menace who although was on the right for suspicion, should not have handled the situation the way he did.

Well it was conditional love as well. Whenever he stood up for himself and demanded she stopped her unacceptable behaviour, she would deny everything and gas light him. The "Dan thing" comes in mind, he probably walked out then as a desperate attempt to make her understand it was a game breaker. She not setting clear boundaries with other men, accepting them flirting with her shows that was more imortant to her than keeping the relationship. A lot of guys fall into that gas light trap being called controlling, jealous etc to put doubts in their minds. Even as she was a mom, she was willing to risk it all. Think about it, why would she be nervous (she said in lip sync reconstruction) about meeting Jonas at a party when she even went there alone and thought his husband would not even show up. She probably planned to cheat that night if her husband did not make it.

In my opinion, the grain didn't cause the downfall of his life, the grain only allowed liam to witness the truth. The wife not only cheated on her bf/husband (idk if they're married or not) but she also lied about the child being his. If the grain never existed, most likely they would grow old together and he would've never known the truth.
So it's either the hurtful truth or a beautiful lie. In this episode I am completely with the technology, since the grain had helped him realize his wife/gf is a horrible person. That being said, I still think he made the right choice removing the grain because at that point he's just hurting himself by reliving memories with his ex. I think he should give it a year or 2 and implant a new grain when he's over her.

I've recently started watching the black mirror, episodes 2 and 3 have really affected me in ways that make me think this isn't for me. If you've never been cheated on before, or lied to by someone you trusted so very much and to the extents of picking up fights with you just to cover up their "crimes" against you, you probably wouldn't understand. These two people who are doing things behind your back and yet one calls you a friend and another calls you a boyfriend/husband. Such disgusting people.
If you do not love someone, please break up with them, come clean and then go be with the person you're cheating with. Some of these people (women) choose to stay with the man simply because he's stable and provides security and resources they do not wish to give up on, but they'll tell whatever horrible excuses to themselves (4 fucking days you couldn't wait?) to justify their actions. Some foolish person will probably ask me "who hurt you?" and I'll say "it's people like you who did".

Worse is the fact that the author of this video specifically says that the Grain destroyed Liams life, wich, although arguable could be said, but is not true at all. If anything, the Grain gave him the power to verify and uncover the TRUTH. And the truth is only one, wether likable or dark, but the way most of the rational people probably see it, the Grain was a helpful piece of technology. Was it nice of him to snoop in his wifes past like that? Certainly no. But what he discovered about her is far worse. As a living classic would say, to lie is to rob someone of his/ her choice to decide on proper terms, going by real facts and truths.

@@faustuskrauss6457 I mean, the plot of the episode is something that is happening globaly, and having a device to see through it would be a great advantage. In age where relationships are more and more complicated than ever before, this is something that could save numerous people from wasting their life with wrong (toxic, abusive or unfaithfull) partner. With many cheaters there is slim to no chance of proving their infidelity, that is whats terryfying about the whole prospect of being married to someone and discovering ( be it an minor accident for all I care) that they might be up to something like this... In 2020 and beyond, there is virtually NOTHING holding any women from leaving a relationship if she does not desire it, so I have 0% sympathy for either sex cheating on each other.

The episode begins with establishing Liam's moral grounds, by having him question the ethics of his company's plan to sue parents. Liam's perception of infidelity fuels his desire to investigate his suspicion (and I know I would have done the same because living with that gut feeling of something's seriously off with your most trusted partner is simply self-torturing). The use of this 'grain' tech is spot on. The most painful reveal perhaps is that Jodie isn't really Liam's daughter all along. Liam still says that she will always be his daughter, but he just couldn't tolerate such a serious infidelity.

I thought about this episode again today.. searched it on youtube to watch some vids on it. Ended up just watching the episode again. I remember the first time watching it and picking up on most of the detail. But watching it again after a long time (and this time sober). It's crazy how much Fi gaslights Liam, all the tiny details of her behavior. But how masterfully they make it seem like Liam is the unreasonable one because like Liam the audience is being gaslit. Liam is getting drunk and obsesing over small details, getting more and more agressive, the cringy moment with the baby sitter, his behavior against Jonas after inviting him, him going to Jonas' house etc. But if you pay attention, he's being driven insane by a mix of Fi's gaslighting and the fact that they all have photographic memory and can relive every detail of every moment. So that suspicious evening at your wife's friend's party is no longer something you mostly forget and of which the memories get foggy. You can't just go "maybe I was overreacting, maybe I was just imagining stuff" etc.. it's there, right in front of you.
Notice also how at the party, Liam won't even finish a single beer. But then after he fights and makes up with his wife. He sleeps with her and they both are looking at previous memories while in bed with each other. And then he goes down and watches the bit about Jonas talking about how he watches some other fling, while he has a girl upstairs waiting for him.
Also, Jonas is the guy that makes most guys insecure at a party etc. Any guy that's kind of a slimebal/fboy. The guy that has great social skills, says outrageous and often cringy stuff but manages to make all the women laugh and hang on his every word makes the other guys at the party uncomfortable. Especially when he starts to talk about how monogomy is boring and bad (while you're there with your girl etc). Like you know that Liam got even more angry when he saw that Jonas' backup plan was the hot girl from the party. "figures". Because he already hates the guy for being so slimey, more so that his wife slept with that guy .. that type of guy. And then he sees the measured, pretty, seemingly calssy woman from the party has also fallen for his charms etc. (AT least that's how she acts but it's implied she's some sort of sksworker. She had her grain removed to sell it to the highest bidding pervert. She didn't remove it because she realized it was bad. She had it removed for money and when it was gone she realized it wasn't that bad to not have one.)
Many people in Liam's place would have ended up in prison. Few passions are as strong as love and jealousy. Having your seemingly perfect wife turn out to be a gaslighting cheater that was making you raise the child of another man.. that's not an easy pill to swallow for any man I imagine. Esp not because we men love to idealize our women. Like they're perfect and we know them through and through. So when you realize you misjudged someone to such an extreme, I can't imagine the pain and hurt.

This is by far my favorite episode. My only issue with it is that there is somewhat of an underlying subtext or many people interpretting it as, "hey, wouldn't have been better if you didn't know?" .. no, it wouldn't. And I kinda hope that wasn't what the writers were going for. Obviously the way Liam acts and behaves isn't ideal, but his suspicion likely had been building up fro a long time now. And having the suspicion in super clear, HD there for you to rewind, watch and analyze doesn't help.
In the end he was right, yes he lost everything and is in a very bad place. But he can start over. Find someone new. Have his own kids and make a new life for himself. Instead of living a rose tinted life with a cheating wife, raising a baby that isn't his.
Man it's such a shame that Netflix took this brilliant, dark show and turned it into "look gurls, here is a miley cyrus episode and here are two old lesbian women having a feel good romance in digital heaven" .. ()I recently saw a tier list for black mirror episodes.. and half the comment section were women claimin that San Junepiro was the best episode. Most of them seemed to intensely dislike all the "depressing" black mirror episodes.

The episode HITS HOME! He looks almost identical to my ex, so i was *so* biased at first. then, as he got more insecure and toxic, i hated the character but actually...gradually i started to notice that I was *exactly* acting like him in that very relationship! Exactly. I just saw myself there, Analysing all of the details, all the time. Its very ugly. Maybe because i'm in law too and the details and truth are important. Connecting the dots untill i proved right that i .was. not. crazy. and was right all along! But then what. What is the point in being right and finding out you've been lied to for years and years. I have just been waisting 3 years of my life acting irritated, confused and isolated while i could have spend my differently.
I think the subject of the story is obsession. Like he was right at last, and was not crazy. but look at the coast...look at what manner he (and me too in some ways) tried to get justice. You look like a insecure, sad, unpleasant, paranoid prick. But it just does not make sense and you cannot stop untill you find the truth.
Even after the caraccident : i thought he was looking back to see what awefull things he did and regret...but even then Liam didn't bother he was analysing for clues. And found the final clue. (While totally ignoring the fact he death-treat that guy, drunk drive, ect.) Just to get the goal. That is a little crazy. It is obsessive. The couple were both toxic, but he was made crazy by the gaslighting.
It was a good show, i liked this episode much

It usually annoys me and I purposely don't watch the video when it's out, usually, I only watched this because it's you/black mirror.
If I'd guess I'd say its to build hype/maximise views. 🤔 But with all due respect over 24 hours later... 571 views is shockingly low for a video of this quality/content. Far less than you deserve.
So the premiere thing clearly isn't doing bits for the view count 🤔 I'm just eager to find out why creators do it.
