    Just been offered this video by CZcams. Great to hear your excitement. As a matter of interest the GW 0-4-0 that you showed was styled from a real engine, no. 101, if I remember correctly, built as a works engine for Swindon works.

    I have been following this project with considerable interest and having now aquired a redundant IKEA desk top approx 5’ x 2.6’ thought I might give it a go, how hard can it be 🤣, famous last words, working out the track plan just from the video is awkward so it’s a case of trial and error. This is a great project absolutely love it. Well done

    • @BudgetModelRailways
      @BudgetModelRailways  Před 2 lety

      Hi thanks for the support. The track plan would be too big as it's 31x69 in, but you could still make a decent layout, although you will have to use flexi track as it's to small for a 1st radius curve, which will limit what you can run

      @@BudgetModelRailways just to see, I have laid a first radius oval, it fits, but edge to edge, I figure I could screw a 2” x 1” baton around the edges which would give me the width, it will be trial and error for the platforms and goods yard, I have picked some ideas from your previous layouts, but I may lose the bay platform because of space, I will have fun trying to figure it out.

  • @OlivierGabin
    @OlivierGabin Před 2 lety +5

    It's still a pleasure to see your layout, especially with some trafic on it. I'm carefully observing the disposition of yours because I want to do a "3 in 1" layout : a layout that can, with simply swapping the buildings, be used for my british OO models, but also for my italian and german HO ones (not at the same time of course !). I have decided to do an urban setting because you can completely change the background and the whole scenery while leaving only the tracks and the platforms in place.
    Also, I will go first for another project : built a small depot to be used as a showcase for my engines. I'll pick some of your ideas for it !

Out of all the layouts that you have built over the years I think that this one finally puts everything that you were trying to get with the others in one neat, useable, enjoyable and operational package! It looks great, it works great and it's great to see you operating it and enjoying the fruits of all your work.Thanks for everything you do and over the years you and Douglas have put so much positivity into the hobby and have probably brought more people into it then any ad by Hornby or the others ever has - something to be very proud of and please do continue! Happy Christmas and New year to you and your family , great video, I got one of those ex GWR 43xx mogal for about £40 on e bay awhile back and in BR black , and a great runner, but like most Mainline models noisey, also I have a lovely Dean Goods loco by Main line that's a great runner and like your Collets it's quiter , havnt got a Collet yet but will keep my eyes out for one in the new year, I've also gone back to a 'train set type layout with a few sidings so I can just enjoy watching trains run , and do some shunting if I wish too.

    A superb running session I am happy with my track plan created in my head. A single track with passing loop and inner siding. My attempts to solder have failed so going to mask tape the wire in the non scenic area by having the wire ends touch then track sides but must melt the solder on the wire ends and put the javis track ballast down. I feel my track plan will give great operational potential not bad for a 6x4 office layout. If I send a picture of the track plan to you could you feature it here, maybe doing a layout based on it.

Like you come from a wargaming background but now getting into model railways.Am I right in thinking about 4 right and 3 left hand hornby points in the main central part of the layout?Keep up the good work making the hobby more easily accessible for the likes of me without getting hung up.Like the just go for it ,experiment and improvise as you go along attitude.
