Staff members describe their favorite things at Monticello.
Monticello, Jefferson's plantation near Charlottesville, Va., was the center of his world. To understand Jefferson, one must understand Monticello; it can be seen as his autobiographical statement.
Monticello encompassed a house, an ornamental landscape, a farm, a plantation, a small mountain, and a large and diverse community. It encapsulated the interests, talents, ideals, ambitions, and realities of its creative and complex owner.

I love this video. Excellent idea! Thank you so much for making it. I love visiting Monticello. The guides are all super excellent. Same with the people even at the entrance and the ticketing area. Everyone is so happy and helpful.

Two of my favorite items were the large mirrors on either side of the French doors in the ballroom. They are so massive that they have never left the spot that they were hung almost 250 years ago!

I marveled at Jefferson's compact devices used for note-taking, measuring, calculating…All of those pocket-sized instruments are mini-gems.

My favorite thing was a little horse on wheels in one of the second floor bedrooms, directly above Mr. Jefferson's Cabinet.
I swear that I saw it move by itself the summer of 1987.

What the curator called a coffee urn is called a samovar.

Background music way too loud. Can't hear half of what's going on.

This would be even better if the music were a little less dominant - i'm more interested in what the people are saying. Nice piece though I've been using it in my classes as an intro to 'my favourite things....'

Music is mixed too loud and drowns out the talking in many areas

The speaker's words were overshadowed by the volume of the background music which makes it nearly impossible to hear the people speak. It is so disappointing that we are unable to hear the insights that the speakers had to offer.
