  • "Carol of the Bells" (also known as the "Ukrainian Bell Carol") is a choral miniature work originally composed by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych. Throughout the composition, Leontovych used a four note motif as an ostinato which was taken from an ancient pagan Ukrainian New Year's chant known in Ukrainian as "Shchedryk" [the Generous One]. The composer created the piece as an assignment for a harmony course he was taking by correspondence in the use of an ostinato. The original work was intended to be sung a cappella by mixed choir. Two other variants of the composition; one for woman's choir and another for children's choir with piano accompaniment were also created by the composer.
The "Carol of the Bells" was premiered in December 1916 by a choral group made up of students at Kiev University. It was introduced to Western audiences by the Ukrainian National Chorus during its concert tour of Europe and the Americas, where it premiered in the United States on October 5, 1921 at Carnegie Hall.

Such bone chillingly beautiful voices. I can imagine a choir of seraphim sounding pretty much like this. Absolutely ephemeral.

It’s always been my moms dream to see the Vienna boys choir in person during Christmas. Something I’ve always wanted to give her but never had the money to

@TheQWERTY1002 that's one of the reasons they're famous. In the old days (like the 16th century) it was very popular to have Castrati because they liked the way boy can hit high notes before they hit puberty.

@TheQWERTY1002 Boys voices don't deepen until after puberty. All rightful boys choirs should have this pure sound. Boys choirs are meant to have this sound. :)

If you were in the room when we rehearse or for a concert of mass with adults (men and women) who sing each part SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass). I am hopefully going to move on to becoming a Tenor by next year. When I saw the Vienna Boys Choir yesterday, there were some 13-14 year-olds singing with them, and they blended in with everyone else. Also, when I saw them, you could only hear their accents when one boy was singing a solo. Other than that, they sounded like they were American.

@TheQWERTY1002: In music, trained young boys are seen as producing the purest singing - clean and free of "clutter". (Girls' voices are nothing like this, tending to contain "nyah, nyah" overtones). But this is ephemeral in the extreme, lasting only during the intersection of (a) the time when the boy is experienced enough to have mastered the art, and (b) the time before his voice breaks. The search for this pure singing has seen men make eunuchs of themselves or others!

That's the point. Boys choirs are made up of boys (who have the voice) who sing the Soprano and Alto parts of music. They are historic and there are some pieces of music written ESPECIALLY for boys choirs. I have had the opportunity of seeing 1/4 of the choir (because they are expected to do 300 concerts a year) and just that part alone, blew my mind. They sound AMAZING. I, myself, am 14 and my adam's apple hasn't fully grown in yet. So, I sing alto in a cathedral choir with a lot of other boys.

"Carol of the Bells" is a popular Christmas carol composed by Mykola Leontovych in 1914[1] with lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky. The song is based on a folk chant known in Ukrainian as "Shchedryk".[2] Wilhousky's lyrics are copyrighted (Wilhousky died in 1978), although the original musical composition is not.

It just seems so unnecessary. The purpose of the sexes is to reproduce. There's no requirement for reproduction if you live forever, so there's no requirement for a distinction to exist between the sexes. It would be so much more reasonable, (and logical) to just assume that we are all part of some collective "whole" and that each of us is a rung on the infinite continuum of space and time.

Not all prepubescent boys are sopranos. I believe most are alto range so when a TRULY GOOD soprano boy voice comes along it is a wonderful thing; and at the arrival of a GREAT voice, realize that it is a rare enough treat so enjoy it while it lasts.
Anyone with normal hearing abilities should be able to tell the difference between prepubescent boys and girls voices, at least if they are shown or taught what the differences are. The WSK boys in this rendition do not SOUND anything like girls.

Are you Loving enough to enter heaven? Have you always loved and obeyed God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength? Have you always Loved your neighbor and enemies selflessly, thinking nothing of yourself? Have you always put God and others before yourself in every thought, word, and deed? Do you deny yourself and renounce everything that you are in order to esteem God above everyone & everything? Would you be willing to sacrifice your life that God may have all the glory even if you still were rejected and abandoned at the end? If this is not your heart; then you have not enough Love to be accepted into Heaven; "He that Loves not (selflessly) knows not God for God IS (sacrificial and selfless) Love"
