Current owner of a Sledge the stock motor/esc and spur gear pinion ratio setup out is the box is great.
Honestly Traxxas did their homework and produced a great RC. Solidly built and feels tighter than my Kraton 8S .
I'm running stock motor with max 6. Solid setup.

Interesting🤔 I would have never thought that outcome for the Hobbbywing. I was considering swapping out the stock ESC and keeping the motor but I want to get a few more runs in stock first.
I think the stock sledge motor is 2000kv. Versus the max 8 combo comes with a 2200kv motor
Jason thanks again for another great video. I find myself just a little reluctant to pull the trigger on the Sledge...$800 for the unit and $250-300 for new electronics, now we're rounding off around $1,100 for a 6s. I just grabbed a XTR Kronos for $400 put a radio and Max 6 Hobbywing..Dude I'm doing with 25t pinion 71mph and I'm only out of $700 bucks. I'm in the hobby, I have over 50 cars, I will blow money, I don't know why uts so hard for me to pull the trigger in this one.
am going to try the max 6 esc with the stock motor I've seen three people do that.
I know I'm super late on comments but I do know Tire size and weight plays a role in speed just like gearing.

Turn the punch up to 5!! I gave an e revo 2.0 with the max 8 combo and it runs pretty good
Did you have to go with the .5 offset wheels or the 0?
How was this system overall? I am thinking about putting this in my sledge but don’t want it to overheat.
Hey Jason, just found your channel and really enjoying going back and watching previous videos. I'm about to get a Hyper MT plus 2 after i've sold my Kronos XTR and i can't decide whether to put a Max6 and 1650kv combo in it or keep my max 8 and 2200kv and put that in it. What are your opinions on it as i see you tried a few different combinations?
I prefer the 2200kv in the MT. I had a hard time trying to tune the truck when I had the 1730kv in it.

I think the kuran 2050 tc combo would be perfect for this heavy car which pretty much the same as max 8 combo, maybe little more torque . I find my sencored systems aren't as aggressive and don't compare kv # to kv as you are now too . We gain precise control lots cool options but we can see why sensired generally better for racing and sensorless for bashing . I going try the new hw xerun pro 6s capable , but max 8 2200 combo been one best ive owned performance and durability. Last longer than stock rtr s escs although traxxas ones do last but very tuned down and laggy .
That motor combo with mild pinion gets BLAZING hot on 4s in my Takno MT410.

I believe the difference is just how much timing advance is setup into each ESC. Sadly the max8 doesn’t let you control the timing.. so to compare youll have to go up in pinion

Interesting your choice to swap to hobbywing. I thought the castle 8s would be insane. I like both but run more hobbywing. I guess you have to gear up to go faster. I went 54 today with mine. Stock everything. I could have gone 55 but was getting tough on a narrow road.
Put the stock moter with the hobbywing and the castle with the hobbywing and see if it's the esc or the motors.
I think that castle little different than hw setup even though its 2200kv its design to go to 8s . This combo one my favorites but not good for over 10 lb cars or you have to gear appropriate .

Maybe you can try the stock system who knows you might like it this time. I know I have to say I like mine. I mean it can always have more power but it’s not bad for stock Traxxas stuff. I just remembered you said in your other video that you sold it.
Sensored setups are slower. Hobby wings Sensored setups run Hybrid: sensored at low to mid rpms, then it runs sensorless at mid to higher RPMs, For better efficiency, timing advance and top motor speed. Some sensored ESCs allow you to lock the esc into sensored mode if you want fulltime sensored running.
I know your HW setup is sensorless but I'm wondering if Castle algorithmically, runs their Sensored setups similar to how HW does Sensored, or if they're locked into sensored.
Also check your motor timing settings on the ESCs. One could be set differently. Some ESCs have automatic timing advance (usually call it boost or Turbo, etc).
Just somethings to look into.
I also wonder if running your Castle setup without the sensor wire in sensorless mode would net a difference in top speed.

Castle does the same thing, starts sensored and only uses it as needed. I believe they call it cryo drive
Maybe try running a leopard hobby motor, i got a 4082 2000kv motor in my sst, but its much faster than the stock motor
The max 6 esc is basically the same size as the stock 6s vxl that came in the sledge. Obviously the motor that comes in the max 6 combo is way to big but people are being decent result running the max 6 with stock traxxas 2000kv motor. I just noticed this video was 1 month old so what I'm saying is probably old news right now lol

I guess I haven't been paying attention, what are people getting with the stock system? I would definitely go back to the castle set up. It has so much more potential. The MMX8S runs my DBXLE and I have hear rumor it can handle up to 400 amps even though castle won't tell you that. Once you can gear up it will be an animal 🤩
That's the thing. I have seen people show 58-60 mph. But, I have also seen hit people hit 55mph running a 15t pinion. And that would make no sense. So who knows!
@@JasonPerrinRCVlogs I find that hard to believe that's stock. Traxxas has 55mph on the box stock I thought 🤔 Either way I would stock with the Castle set up. It's a beastly ESC 💪

If u want more speed change the pinion to 18t or 19t. But u bee going up in heat throw a power hobby turbo fan on that motor. I run 160 firmma on my sledge haven't tested the speed yet. I change my trexxas motor to my the same 2200kv motor u have. An mine fly I will test my speeds
Well the 2000 kv might be faster then the hobbywing but pair that esc with the 2200kv castle and it will change the game frfr

ive never liked castle electronics i had a mamba monster(not the x) once and it didnt compare to hobbywing esc as far as power and punch

My kaiju is faster on max punch with that combo put to 5
I just don't understand the obsession people have with making them go faster. You can't use that speed in a practical manner, other than winning a pissing contest I don't see the point.
