    • @EmdrGreg
      @EmdrGreg Před 9 lety +47

      Oh, I believe it. It does appear though that Greg could have just resigned, but let the game continue to the end for the kid's sake. It came across as being a very selfless and generous way to handle the game. By the way I'm not what anyone would call a chess player; I know how the pieces move and that is almost literally the extent of my knowledge of the game.

    The kid is 10 and you are all expecting him to act like an adult. Let him be a kid, because if he tries to act all mature and shit like you want him to, he's gonna regret not being able to be himself at such a young age.

  • @bailinnumberguy
    @bailinnumberguy Před 11 lety +51

    Shahade handled this pretty well. I played a lot of tournaments in the 90s and early 2000s. I never liked playing against kids. Some kids were fine, but others were bad winners and worse losers. It's not much fun winning a game when your opponent bursts into tears or wipes all the pieces off the board and runs out of the room.

      ricky bobby He's a kid.... he understands a game. He probably doesn't understand social behavior. He doesn't understand and won't care for some time,,because all he cares about is the game. He doesn't and shouldn't care if sore losers comment on a video of him playing a game. His opponent seems impressed and actually enjoys it a bit.

    • @EmdrGreg
      @EmdrGreg Před 9 lety +53

      ricky bobby It's true, ricky-- but we can cut him some slack. He's young, and he was filled with excitement and joy at the prospect of beating Greg. His behavior is an indirect way of showing how much respect and admiration he has for Greg. We've all been cocky and arrogant at some time or other-- he will mature and learn. Greg is the hero of this vid in my opinion.

    He holds the record for the youngest ever United States Grandmaster at the age of 13 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
    He also holds the record for the youngest ever United States International Master at 12 years and 10 months.

    i wonder how they both "knew", that, when the IM lost his knight @0:26 without much protection to come out equally of the exchanges, he was about to lose the game. is it because of the rapidness of those blitz games? ..i mean in a "normal" chess game, you could think of a strategy to pull off a win, after losing a knight at the beginning of a game, right?

    • @soakedbearrd
      @soakedbearrd Před 9 lety

      Paul Davis
      It isn't an automatic loss, but at that level (master and above) it's very hard to come back from. Not only is he down the exchange (not a whole piece), but he is also down a pawn with a terrible position in the opening. Very hard to recover.

    • @styloverte1163
      @styloverte1163 Před 9 lety

      He didn't exactly lose a knight. He just went down a pawn. A pawn is still winning though. In a normal game, a pawn can sometimes be a death sentence when playing someone your rating.

      @McNastyMac Před 9 lety +3

      RODRIGOCELEBRONI Not in blitz, the rules are a little different: it's touch-clock move, even if you have touched and dropped the piece, if you have not touched the clock, you can take your move back. Another small difference is that the king can be captured, resulting in an immediate win for the one who captures it (an illegal move is a warning, but an illegal move that leaves your king en prie may lose the game).
