Shōgun is peak
Based on James Clavell’s novel, FX’s Shōgun is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

Nothing another man respects more than unshakable conviction in the face of overwhelming odds.

That little side smile is priceless.
👍👍
Suits Toranaga to a T. As much as he values his honor and tradition, he was also ambitious as hell and respected ambition in others.
My father in law was from Czech Republic. Escaped communism and a very brilliant but stoic man. He used to do a side smile like that, what I would give to see that smile again. Miss you Richard.
So subtle too. Such a great actor
"Nah I'd win"

@@shreedharchatane6008yeah…
Same vibes
“No shit, ‘unless I win.’”
Toronaga : He makes me laugh. I think I'll keep him.
He smiled becuase he has the same idea
I had to double check to make sure that I wasn't wrong with the actor, so glad that they got Hiroyuki Sanada for this series
Legend
He produced it too
He’s the producer. He got himself lol
You should look up how old he is
@@KHN.RVA.28 why?
Toronaga : " You are outnumbered, there's no hope for you"
Anjin : "Nah I'd win 🗿"
His almost smile when he said unless i win😂😂❤❤
peak acting
@@FlamingoFuzz 👍 agree
this is so well acted, the subtle smile at the end... gives you a hint of Toranaga's Secret Heart!!!
That tiny smile for toranaga just confirmed ALL his plans. Before that he had to be thinking how do I do this. Then he hears "unless I win" coming from a "barbarian". If a non-samurai has thar type of resolve....a future shogun has to keep going
That smirk, now I have to watch this.
100%
hope you enjoyed it
Bro got that "Nah, I'd Win" Mentality
"nah I'd win" version of 16th century
Blackthorne pulled a "Nah I'd win" 💀
Ah the translator give more intense to the conversation
I love Hiro’s slight smile at the end!
great acting. not everyone can do a slight facial change like that.
“I’m built different” ass reply
*"Unless I Win."* ☕️🗿
*That line went hard af!* 🥶🔥💯🐐
That is the most badass response.
I think that in this moment when Blackthorne told him “Unless i win”Toranaga acknowledged to take the mantle of the Shōgun. A small encouragement from a Anjin.
And that is why he kept hom so long in his master plan. He understood unthinkable odds and how to win.
Unless you Win, Become a Shogun is possible.
Bro really said, "Nah, I'd win"
First, he was a samurai in THE LAST SAMURAI, a vengeance fueled ninja in MORTAL KOMBAT, and now he's a samurai again in SHOGUN.
Hiroyuki Sanada never disappoints an audience with the many roles he has played past and present.
Kare no seikō ga ippo mo fumihazushi tari, zasetsu shi tari suru koto ga arimasen yō ni.
leave him alone
@Craigtuckett I meant it as a compliment, bub. So don't go casting stones.
Bullet train and the last John wick
He was also a business man Samurai that fought Wolverine in the movie Wolverine.
Pretty sure he was also a ‘samurai’ in Westworld
He just saw a bit of Nobunaga In him 😈
Definitely! Knowing what both of them achieved in the end makes this moment so much more aweslme
The actor playing Toronaga is devastatingly handsome. NGL.😮
Hes like "I lile this guy."
"I think that I'll keep the Anjin around,....he makes me laugh."
The old man didn't say anything but my brain said in his voice -"Sokka" 😄
Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and Tokugawa had the same goal of unifying Japan but only Tokugawa succeeded in doing so while the prior two failed so💁🏻♀️💯
I've noticed her translation is different to whomever ever she is speaking to.
He says something, when she translate it's different to whom she is speaking to. Then different on the translation back.
It's intentional. The translator has her own agenda in this scene.
Man ive got to see this show!
Bro please do urself the favour
Gonna go down as one of the best single seasons oat if continues down this path 💯
Its captivating af
Just finished this series im not ready to be done with it
There is an original miniseries with Toshiro Mifune and Richard Chamberlain , and it was made after the book Shogun written by James Clavell . The book is excellent. Once you start reading you can't put it down
Shogun was an incredible ride, Toranaga is a sharp mf, there's so much silent exhanges in this serie!
Toranaga was testing him in this scene, he tried to dissuade him from getting his revenge and if Blackthorne accepted, Toranaga would had killed him.
But because Blackthorne only cared about his desire and not their consequences, Toranaga knew he could use him in his plans.
This scene was the moment Toranaga stopped to see Blackthorne as a pirate but as a samurai (or at least he knew Blackthorne was on the Bushido path).
In the Hagakure book (the book of the samourai of the Nabeshima clan) it's written:
"No matter if the enemy has thousands of men, there is fulfillment in simply standing them off and being determined to cut them all down, starting from one end".
Overall Torenaga is the best Shogun you could find to rule over samurai because he doesn't follow himself the Bushido way of doing things and make sure everyone else is following it to have control over them, this serie is soooo deep it's crazy!
Too sad it won't be any season 2, the season 1 covered pretty accuratly the whole book and ended in the same way.. there's material for a second season but i don't think they will take the risk of ruining it all, every matter was in a way or another already settle ^^
I think he sees himself at that moment. No?
In my opinion yeh, you could honestly interpret it in few ways
He also knows that he may very well (or in his mind, certainly) see that the Portuguese will be run off. It just isn't in his immediate interest to do so in his current situation. Because Blackthorn is so set against them, it is Toranaga's view that he can be a useful tool in tricking the regents long enough put himself in a position to win.
Yes . To use Anjin san as a tool in his plan to become Shogun !
😁😁😁😁
Yup. He mentions this during ep 10
Some people say that Mariko deliberately misquoted Blackthorne's 'to vanquish our common enemies' line, but she didnt really. She just doesnt see the portugese as Toranaga's enemies so she corrects Blackthorne's statement to "his enemies".
"you son of a bitch, I'm in"
The English have a habit in that period of winning when they’re outnumbered and that’s incredibly inspiring to an extent 😂
That’s hard
Well they used tactics that others thought were useless and proved otherwise. With ground troops they would form a giant ass box having 2 or 3 rows of men in the formation. Having fixed bayonets and fire upon command. Which became even more effective when bolt action rifles came to play.
The moment
These dialogue from this series are fascinating. Maybe it's just my opinion alone but they sound much more loaded.
Very interesting!
This man really said "Nah, I'd win"
Bro thinking he's him,
He's fucking Gojo Satoru
*"Nah, I'd Win"*
[Through Heaven & Earth, I Am The Honored One]
_Pulls Out Dual Blicky_
Toronaga: When he builds his Ship again... I'll set it on fire again.😂😂😂
Me: Awww friendships are fun.
Lord Toranaga: What do you seek in Japan?
Blackthorne: To vanquish our common enemy.
Lord Toranaga: You should abandon this war; you are outnumbered.
Blackthorne: Unless I win.
Lord Toranaga: Thats ‘ma boy!!
Toranaga (Tokugawa Ieyasu) was also outnumbered before and during the battle of Sekigahara
Its Not Hopeless , If He Wins , every battle is won or lost , B4 it has even begun ,
Musashi! Interesting enough, he lived trough the period of Toronaga and was even present at the battle of Sekigahara.
Odd seeing Takimura again, i missed ya bud glad to see were still fighting overwhelming odds
Damn this quote his harder on episode 10. WELL PLAYED TORONAGA
Holy fucking shit i put my eye drops in twice thinking something was wrong
Sorry, but this is so much weaker than what's in the novel.
Toronaga questions the Anjin, and finds out that Holland is in rebellion against Spain. "It is dishonourable to rebel against a lawful master..." "unless you win" . Later in the book, Toronoaga muses, repeasting the line.... "yes, my friend, unless you win....." So, so, so much better as it subverts the rules of honour, showing that Toronaga has the flexibility to use and transcend them.
That blinking filter hurting my eye
not Shogun related but you can see what Michael Jordan & Kobe had in mind when destroying someone with sheer will and confidence… “ theres no “ i “ in team but it is “ i “ win “ type of mentality which seperates these two among the others into vanquishing opponents.. where glad they picked up a basketball & never touched katana’s or any weapons 😂😅💁🏻♀️💯 the mindset of a winner ! win at all cost !
Barney got himself another war…
左口角が僅かに上がった事が虎永の返事です。
they should make a mini series of buntaro's escape
Naw they shouldn’t
What's the name of the music in the background?
I thought I knew that guy, it's barney from peaky blinders wtf 😂
To anyone who’s watched the full season of Shogun good news there will be a second and third season coming out. I do not know when and I’m hopefully just as filled as everybody else will be.
Conviction courage and honor
And that he did 😂
Which movie
[Toranga liked this]
Love the master from John wick to shogun
Imagine the arrogance, and Torunaga respects it and decides. - keep an eye on this one.
🌐📽️🤍🆒
And thus the Osaka Continental was born.
Where can i see
Is that Barney from Peaky Blinders?
The 10 episode ended just for to explain " unless i win"
Liam Carpenter ending
This is not what James Clavell wrote in his book and was another painful leap away from the original masterpiece. "there is no excuse for rebellion" Toranaga tells the Anjin-san who replies "unless I win" this is the moment Toranaga bonds the Anjin-san to himself as he is about to rebel against the Tyco's heir so the true meaning is lost here. The Samurai in Disney's disaster refer to John Blackthorne as the barbarian after he is made hatamoto something that does not happen in the book either. Anjin-san (Pilot Lord) is his respected title to call a hatamoto a barbarian is really poor work by Disney and was another way they paint the Englishman in a disrespectful light that doesn't happen in the book. Disney also heavily watered down the brutality of the Samurai in the series. Yabu-sama tell the villagers that if the Anjin-san does not learn Japanese in six months time they will all be put to death.
Name ?
He looks a lot less constipated in this movie than he didnt in the abortion of a Jane Austen film "Persuasion" he did with Dekota Johnson.
Unless I win. 😅
I owe you guys, i am so sorry
CDawg: Nah I'd Win
I haven't seen the show but I'm assuming he's not American but if he is that's amazing because if you look at history America has a habit of going against larger forces and not necessarily winning Everytime but the score board is a little lopsided like yeah you took out 1 unit of our marines but they wiped like 4 of yours before they attached beyonets
Bro really said:”nah, i’d win”
That's not what he said, bro. That language barrier is really not doing him any justice. Language barrier in negotiations is a real problem
Do edit lord toranaga
It was at that moment that toranaga decided to make Captain Blackthorne Samurai
Why is your video flickering? Cellphone copy?
Justa effect
I seek nothing 😊
Great clip if it wasn’t seizure inducing
Oh no I hope I won’t make the naughty list
I get that it sounds badass, but that response makes no sense.
Is this “the last samurai remake”?
No it’s based off a book
Black Thorne is Gojo
John Blackthorne is his full name.
Should I watch JJK?
Meh. The original scene in the novel AND the mini series with Richard Chamberlain was much, MUCH better.
Genocidal Colonizers kinship is something else to watch
All Humans , are Genocidal Colonizers , if U haven't realized Thvs by Now , U R Blind 🦯🦮
Why did she translate wrong?
She seems him as an enemy at this point with her being a Catholic (Portuguese friendly) and him a Protestant (at war with the Portuguese)
Nah, i'd win
chat do i watch this
You shall
why is a westerner in Asian land? was it for Oil ? 😂😂
Europeu vagal
I prefer the og with little to no subtitles.
Movie←🚮🚮
the dialogue" not if i win " doesn't make sense and no body better reply with some dumber reasoning
Just finish the serie, at the end of season 1 Toranaga will develop how interesting it was for him to hear Blackthorne say this and why.
Long story short, in this scene Blackthorne was playing his life and if he said anything else, Toranaga would had to kill him, it was the best answer he could had answer.
@@amumuisalivedatcom8567 the outcome makes sense but the words he said was not correct English or a correct answer, the writting is off, its like if a kid made a movie about white people and ninjas and got to just say funky dialogue
The wrong person to do shogun
