Where can you remove the excess? Thank you so much for the support!
Such a beautiful video. One request....could you slow down while talking? I need to soak up what you are saying and I don't want to feel rushed. Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. You are a breath of fresh air.
@@cantocant2346 On some fast talking channels, I change the “playback speed.” (It’s the 3 dots on the upper right hand corner.)
@@momof1150 I never knew that! Thank you for the info!
Thank you for this video. I have a question; what about if only you want this not your partner?
@@jolandaderidder-vanegmond9443 I've seen a minimalist who has a CZcams channel only declutter hers + the children's things, and left the husband's things. The husband was finally seeing the benefits and saw how freeing it was to have a tidy house, and he Began his decluttering journey as well! The wife said nothing to push the husband into minimalism, it happened naturally for them 🙂
I try to own only things that bring me joy each day and keep them dust free and very clean. When I clean I practice gratitude and thank the things I own individually -even the floors or walls keeping me safe and warm. I even thank the toilet 😂 This practice helped me a lot to not just clean but feel more abundant, grateful and happier.
I love this! Thanks for watching ❤️
Love this idea of gratitude - thanks for the inspiration!
It's better to thank God for everything. Not the things.
Very nice. Good thoughts❤❤
I love this... ❤️ People were looking at me really strange when I thanked my bag of clothes and wished them a happy new life at the donation drop off point, but I really truly was thankfull for them serving me and now serving someone else... Must have looked weird indeed, but I don't care..... 😂
I’m in the early stages of decluttering & I already got rid of 5 HUGE trash bags worth of stuff. I still have a very long way to go but I already feel so much lighter it’s incredible
That’s so great! Keep it up. ❤️
Keep going! Worth it!
If everyone does this, where will all the crap go?
@@agrendae recycle, reduce, reuse, repurpose. Simple. Others need it. The rest will be in landfills eventually anyway. But maybe many will practice less consumption.
@@agrendaefact: American trash currently gets shipped to Ghana. (Keep this mental image & stop! Consuming!)
One thing I love about all the minimalism videos I find online is that it gives me hope for a future where as a whole we can agree that material things we have worked so hard for are not what life us truly about. We don't have to live life the way we have been conditioned to think we have to. Love this.
Thank you Elizabeth! ❤️ I agree! But our culture sells us another message
Totally agree
Wish my spouse would dare to vision and think about living an alternativet lifestyle. I would love to leave the high-speed, stressfull society. Thank you for a good video. I'm happy for you 😊
I feel the same way about my significant other. I want to live minimally and he keeps bringing in more clutter and garbage :(
Oh, yep 👍 I’m in that club too! My hubby just wants to hold on to everything! 😒. It’s so frustrating. I would have half the house cleaned out if I had my way! And it’s so true what she said in the video at the end; it’s all about letting go! That is a big part of living a happier life 🥰
What helps is to declutter ONLY your personal stuff. I found out it's contagious.
@@sabinespies4706 I’ll have to try that. Thanks!
Then leave your partners then. My husband is pushing yhis on me & its making me so unhappy. I'm leaving I've had enough. Minimal life is not for everyone
I love this! We got rid of everything and even ended up selling our home to live nomadically in our RV. People dont even realize how sucked in to the “norm” they are and soul crushing and planet wrecking this “norm” is.. I know I didnt realize this until we pulled out and finally felt freedom. RVing and living minimally saved my life and gave my family unity. The “American Dream” is being sold as the right and best way to live but really, its just a way to control the masses, to keep them working like little worker bees keeping the queen (whoever that might be) nice and fat.
100% !
100% !
100% !
Amen!
This is amazing. We recently moved from over a 3000 sq ft home to one right under 900 sq ft. We have been in our new home for 6 months. It’s been an adjustment, but it has been the best decision. We are so much happier
Thank you for your support!
Trying to the same. Trying to save with everything going up in price.
I have 6 kids so I spent soooo much time cleaning this is one reason simply was necessary in our house. Now I'm working on all of the other areas.
My mother is a hoarder. I am a minimalist. I am 72 and she is 93. So for 72 years, I have dealt with her mess. She has been in a care home for the last three years. I hoped the care home would mean the end of the hoarding. But, she has managed to fill her room to the brim with anything that she can get her hands on. I can't deal with the mess anymore! I understand that hoarding is a mental illness. So sad that she never got the help she needed to deal with letting go of stuff.
I am so thankful everyday that somehow my mind works differently.
My mom is a hoarder as well!! People that didn't grow up in a hoarder's home don't understand how embarrassing and traumatic it can be growing up in a house of clutter with piles of piles of trash and junk. I've been an extreme minimalist since I was 15 because of it. I'm sorry your mother never got help. 💔
Awesome. Great for you and your family. We did something similar 8 years ago. Not to the level that you did, but we sold our high end suv, sports car, motorcycles, house, rental house, ALL of the excess (as you mentioned). We paid off all of our debt, then bought a simple house, quit our careers, started a small business, and 8 years later we have maintained this simpler life. We work 3-4 days per week, and spend time together doing things that bring our family closer. That is living life. It was scary at first, but we soon realized an invisible weight was released with each item we got rid of. Will never go back
That’s awesome 👏🏻
Love this! I have been clearing out so many things before our third baby comes because I have realized that a lot of physical stuff takes away from quality time with my babies. I love your videos because they help me focus on what is really important too me and make it easier to let things go. 🥰
This makes me so happy! That's amazing ✨
Wonderful decision!
I agree. We just moved from a 6 bedroom 2 bathroom 60 acre to a 3 bedroom 1 bathroom 1 acre and organizing all this stuff feels like it's robbing me of time with the kids
Nice video. Although I live a minimalist lifestyle and have for many years, I realize that minimalism isn't for everyone. Just because I enjoy it doesn't mean others don't enjoy their particular lifestyle just as much.
Yep!
While I love slow, intentional living, minimalism is not for me.
I’m a middlist. Lol!
I hate clutter by I find minimal homes cold and boring.
Everyone has to find their comfort level.
We just did this! We're living in a bus after spending a solid year decluttering and downsizing. It was a HARD year, but SOOO worth it. We're so excited to spend time together and not have the clutter ruling our lives. 💜 best wishes for you all! We subscribed :)
"Whatever helps us process emotional events, we don't have time for". Wow that really hit accurately. Powerful video. Thanks for sharing!
So glad it resonated with you ❤️
I like that part as well. Before therapy I was a workaholic and an ocd cleaner at home. My kids dealt with it by being on their phones and watching TV (we all had severe trauma growing up).
Thank you! I come from a family of horders, I inherited family heirlooms and some junk. I can’t tell you how difficult this journey of getting rid of unnecessary things has been for me! I praise you for being able to do this!
You got this Deona!
I feel you! It seems like in my place (northern Italy) and in the social class I come from (medium-low working class), hoarding to a level someone could describe as pathological was totally the cultural norm until a few decades ago. I'm literally talking keeping 15 outworn jackets in a dedicated extra wardrobe, stacking 20-years-old magazines in the attic, owning 3 sets of coffee cups that have never been used, having closets full of plastic bags from stores and so on. I don't dare to describe myself as minimalist yet, but being where I am now means having already gone a huge path.
@@ELisa-qf2mw thank you 🙏🏼 I’m glad to know that others all over the world struggle also. Thank you for your reply it helps a lot! ❤️
@@deonaboyle7651 i'm glad it helped. After all, we cannot blame our elders either. I used to be mad at my grandma for literally valuing and loving things much more than people, as in, I was not allowed to play in the garden to prevent me from ruining it, the only time I walked into her living room she warned me not to thread on the carpet (as if it was not what carpets are for), she herself used to cook on a small stove in the basement in order to keep her actual kitchen new and clean. As children they have known hunger, living without a toilet and going barefoot for not being able to afford shoes: no surprise they now bulk-buy and hoard more canned food than the entire family will ever eat, own golden-lined dishes they have never eaten on, buy tons "fancy" stuff they are going to "keep for special occasions" which means they are never going to actually use and so on.
I do have two sets of dishes btw, an everyday one and one "for special occasions", but I chose the latter to be dishwasher safe and not frail or too fancy, so that I actually use it anytime I have guests.
I lost everything I own, down to two outfits and one purse (completely that’s all.) Now I am starting over minimal style!
We had a house fire five years ago, we left our house with nothing. We lived in a hotel for a month, then a rental for five months, back to the hotel for a month. It’s surprising what you really need. We just bought a few outfits and washed them frequently. When our house was rebuilt and we moved back in, the amount of stuff that was saved by the fire was overwhelming. I don’t even have much. The people who removed and washed all our items even said that I Im a minimalist. I could still get rid of everything I have and pack my 6 suitcases with pictures and videos of my children. That’s all I’m attached to. Also, my two dogs and cat🤣 Ill have to think about the husband 🤣
I, did too in 1996. Sending you Blessings, Love & Healing Hope, Piper
i was always into edc and minimalism but couldnt finish bakcpacking, the push was the big earthquake (2023 turkey-syria earthquake), after that i was done with my backpack and now everyone thinks im too obsessed and anxious since im living with 1 small bag 1 backpack and a tool bag (mech dept student), i feel peaceful this is my religion, get rid of the useless stuff, have self respect
I have always had a huge disconnect to what I "own" and have never had issues to have less and get rid of things. Only on rare occasions do I get upset with myself for getting rid of one thing lol like my favorite pair of overalls that I didn't feel I needed anymore that one day. I battle with my husband and kids though constantly on having material objects. I'm more of a slow living and looking forward to each healthy meal type of girl. A book, banana, hammock, tea/coffee and music is all I really need and that all could fit in a backpack.
Love the feeling of the slow lifestyle. Harder to do. You still need shelter, food, transportation, income... I'd love to hear more of how you do it.
So why are you trying to battle with your family to live as you do if that's not their style?
@@ldragon8480 Because I'm the one who cleans up the clutter. They don't, I'm the one who is constantly going through the mass amount of material possessions organizing it and tidying up.
My husband and I have six kids and we have given away everything except what we could fit in our suitcases as we moved overseas. We've done this multiple times over the course of our marriage as we moved from the USA to Australia and back. Each time it was so liberating. I loved watching this video. I am like you. I want to keep the most important things as the most important. I don't want to value the frivolous things that society values. Family and relationships are everything.
So true! Thanks for watching Dana!
Praying that your Hawaiian home and you and your family are still standing and are safe 🙏🏼
I love this so much, the simple things in life, and the enjoyment of the world and people around us.
I started this life style 5 years ago and it changed my life for the better. It makes you appreciate what u do have in life....even small things 😊👌
So true. Thanks for watching ❤️
I know how this feels, roughly a year ago. Events occurred in my life. I had de-clutter my whole room and most things that don't matter. I minimized everything that could fit in a car. I never felt so light with less stress. It felt good. Once I found a place to live after 6 months. I didn't go back to the old ways of needing too much.
I’m from the baby boomer generation and have always felt like you. I see more of you generation taking this life style own. You are the true smart ones.
Wow I love this! Having spent 4 days decluttering I missed time with my family to declutter, which made me pretty sad. Still minimizing, but not going to be dogmatic about it.
I love this! I 100 percent agree discontentment is the biggest thing that stresses us out.
This was such a beautiful video. My ultimate goal is living in a tiny house off grid. Your video was inspiring. Thank you, God bless your family. ❤️
Thank you so much Christina! I’m so glad it resonated with you and you found value in it! Thanks for watching and commenting! ❤️ god bless!
Minimslism is best a Mom can do for herself and kids. Less stress, less anxiety, less wasted time on organizing staff you don't really need. More happyness, more time, more energy to be your best self. Happy parents happiet kids!
Wow. I love how not only do you live this out, but you keep your videos concise and remove the excess fluff most people don’t when talking about minimalism. I don’t need a 2 hour documentary taking up my time. I need a few 5 minute videos on specific topics and then I need to get on with my life. You’re achieving what a lot of people promoting this lifestyle have not. Thank you for these videos 🤍
Thanks for watching Kelly!
Madi, you always manage to talk straight to my soul!🥺 thanks for the empowerment and encouragement we find here!❤
It helps us remember that we are in control of every aspect of our lives.
We can live a life without distractions and with intention!🙏
Somehow I deleted my own comment on accident but this means so much to me .
Yes
You've motivated me to try this where I am. I love where I live, and while I hanker for the warmth and beach, my surroundings are stunningly beautiful, clean and calm. You've reminded me of that. Thank you!
So glad this video resonated with you ❤️
So relax, so peaceful, so great.
Beautifully said. “Simplify”
What an inspiring story 💜🙏🏼Thank u! Impossible is nothing, finding here confirmation and courage on a path of change 🙏🏼
Thanks for sharing this inspiring video! I have been working on minimizing my possessions and even thinking about it (because I work and I sometimes don’t have too much time) makes me feel positive about how great my place is going to look when I have less stuff. Again thanks for your words and for sharing your experiences
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment! ❤️
I love to watch your videos. You have taught this 61 year old so much and I thank you!
That is such a compliment! Thank you Beverly! Love that name by the way ✨
This is by far my favorite "extreme" minimalist video I've seen. It made so much sense and really helped put things into perspective w/o the long drawn out trial and error process of going through it myself. Now I know what to expect when I begin minimizing my things. You don't have to be extreme to minimalize your life. Very, very helpful! Thank you!
So true! Thank you for watching!
This video hit it hard. Love this, Madi. You speak to everyone. Birthing…it can be tough on the soul for sure. Positively, your videos have been inspiring me along my journey for the past year. Recently after a thorough house clean, I let go of a large pile of things I’d been holding on to for a long time, some with memory, some with false promise. That has done it. I totally feel the trickle of breakthrough with my minimalism.
ah RUTHIE! This inspires me to keep creating! Thank you for taking the time to comment this and I'm so proud of your progress. ✨
I'm so happy to have your channel. Exactly where I am in life right now.
" Removing the excess and living more intentionally". Very wise and beautiful 😍 words indeed.
So glad you are here Mitzi ❤️ thank you for watching
Thank you,
I cannot express to you in words, what your video has done to me, this beautiful morning. I've been wanting to get rid of what I basically consider "stuff"...
And live my best life.
THANK YOU 💞
Kimberlee - this is so sweet. I'm so glad you got value from this video. ❤
This was so beautifully done, Madi! Made me tear up with happiness and inspiration, seeing where your life has taken you ❤
This is such a lovely video. Thank you for sharing 😭 I’ve had anxiety literally all my life, minimalism and limiting screen time has transformed the way I exist within my home and the ways in which I am there for my kids. My journey is still very new and I aspire to your level of self-awareness and minimalism. One day at a time ❤️
So glad you enjoyed this video. Thanks for watching ❤️
This video touched me so much and hit home as we are currently selling our house and a vast amount of our stuff to live more simple. More intentional. More meaningful. Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you so much Brianna! ❤️
Love this video and message! Beautiful family too :) I have anxiety and get depressive episodes now and then, but once I decluttered and organized my stuff it felt so liberating! My mood shifted and it definitely does help going back to just the basics along with whatever seems essential for your wellbeing/interests.
Thanks Balinda! ❤️
I agree.
Immediately subscribed after watching! Your video is exactly what I've been looking for. You put it into words. That's exactly how I want to live my life
Thank you so much Sabrina! ❤️
I watched all your video's but this video multiple times now. =) so grateful for you on this platform.
I have just stumbled across your video! You have no idea the joy this video has brought me, your words explain everything I want in my life- EVERYTHING except Hawaii, I'd like to move to the Cook Islands and have this life. Your video feels like it is spoken from my heart, I'm in tears!
I wish my husband could feel and see the same.
Thank you for your video x
So glad it resonated with you ❤️
Just what I needed this weekend. I do not declutter often but I need to. Grew up in a third world country where we didn’t have much, but we were really happy. Thanks
Hi there. I just discovered your channel and I can’t tell you how what you’ve said in this and other videos speaks to me. My husband and I are finishing up our 8 month bus conversion and I’m expecting our second child (also delivering at home) next month. I’m in the process of getting rid of everything that doesn’t fit on our bus and your videos resonate with me. You’re so right it isn’t the stuff but how society tells us to live and how busy we need to be, that makes us have stress and anxiety. I did all that, school, marriage, bought a house in the suburbs, packed it full, and felt overwhelmed and unhappy with my environment. Anyway, thanks for your videos. Living in California many people don’t understand the lifestyle I’m striving for but I’m looking forward to traveling the states meeting like minded people who truly get it. Best to you.
So glad you have enjoyed my videos. Thank you for watching ❤️
This was wonderful! Your perspective so much. Minimalism is a great thing, but it’s who are we first the minimalism is part of it, but finding out who we ate is invaluable.
Happy for you Madi☀️ 🌸
Yet another fantastic video! Thanks, Madi. I love your message.
Thank you!!!

I think this mindset is so correct and important
Thank you!!
it took me a while to realise I could be an extreme minimalist and still own a bookcase or two. filling those bookcases up with books and board games, instead of what I consider to be junk gets me excited for the days where being outside isn't possible.
Yes, great point. It's about finding what really adds and detracts value from YOUR life, not anyone else's. Thanks for taking the time to comment! ✨
How beautiful you, your soul and your family are. Peace love and abundance to all that read or even glance at this!

Thank you! This was very helpful. I appreciate your insight and it makes me pause and reflect on how and if I need to simplify. I like the idea of having more family dinners. We've stepped away from that since summer has been busy. But when we all sit down and share a meal it's one of my favorite times.

I don't know why, but I am crying. I have been working towards this lifestyle for many years. So many ups and downs, feeling like I'm moving backwards. I'm in therapy and that's helping. I know it's a journey, and I hope that anyone who sees this video knows it is possible to live your dream. Just know there are many layers to peel off. Thank you for this inspiring video. ❤️❤️❤️
I’m on my journey with minimalism too, and made a goal to release 2022 things this year. Otherwise I’ve been downsizing for several years. It feels good to let these things go as I’m in the midst of a major life change, and don’t want to start the next chapter of my life burdened with so many “things”.
At first I was struggling with what to let go of, until I reversed the process. I was asking what should I get rid of, and I would get overwhelmed and want to hide under the covers. And then I had an aha moment. Now I’m only looking at what I want to keep, and stuff is now flying out the door to give to Habitat for Humanity, or Goodwill. Plus I now look forward to doing this work of lightening up. I’m finding that there’s actually very little that I want to keep, and will most likely go way beyond my goal of 2022 things to give away this year. 💚🌈🌟
That's so inspiring, thank you for sharing Sianna! Be sure to keep us all updated on your progress! Thanks for watching❤️
@@MadisunGray Ok I’ll let you know how my progress goes. I will add here that last week, in one day’s time, I gave away over 300 things. It felt really good.
I’m going to be moving across the country sometime this summer, and then next year moving to England. This is one of the reasons that I’m so motivated to continue purging. Since I’m starting a new life, why would I want to bring my old life with me. 😉🌈🌟
@@Amyavalon1844 Wow. I'm so excited for you! That's a lot of decluttering! I'm impressed.

The American dream has never been about stuff. We all just listened to advertising that said we need this stuff. We can only blame ourselves. We were not forced to buy anything. Taking responsibility for our lives is a good first.
