PowerDrift Simplified | Traction Control Explained

- Traction is whether your wheels have the grip needed to transfer your inputs to the ground or not. A traction control system is a hardware and software setup that uses sensors to determine if your wheels have traction or not. And when they detect a problem, they reduce the power to the driven wheel -- in the case of the motorcycle, the rear wheel - and ensure that the torque at the contact patch doesn’t exceed the available traction. The systems can work up to a 100 times a second, allowing power to be restored as soon as the traction levels permit. In this Simplified episode, Shumi breaks it down for you

Hey #PDArmy, we hope this helped you understand the traction control systems! Hit that Like button if you wanna see more Simplifieds, and let us know below what we should cover.
It would be great if you guys cover riding jackets
Sir please give us suggestions about ni8 riding against vehicle light.
@PowerDrift, For the Simplified series, I strongly suggest not to play music in the background OR at least reduce its volume by 50% if not more.
Please make one video on gear ratios..
When are wegonna see the full detailed video of synthetic(ester base),semi synthetic & mineral engine oil...
I need the next Simplified from PD to be Power VS Torque. Most people still can't get it what they want their bike to be.
We'll consider that!
@@powerdriftofficial please consider this in the next episode
The best series with the best teacher 💯
Amen! Shumi’s definitely an epic teacher
Shumi: Traction control cuts power and restores balance.
Narrator: Everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked
Shumi: Wait, no, no, not that kind of balance.....
😀
I'm literally came here after watching the avatar right now 😂😂
This series should have episodes going live everyday! Thank you @Powedrift and @Shumi. You people have made me a better rider throughout the years with your informative yet entertaining videos.
Haha! Hit that Like button and we’ll have Shumi making more !
Shumi, please cover Ride-by-Wire, custom suspension setup (terms like preload, soft, hard etc.,), levels of armour in riding gears & their fundamentals.
Thanks Shumi for teaching me everything about motorcycling I know and keeping this passion going. Much love to the PD crew ❤️❤️
Was there a song playing continuously in the background throughout the length of the video? Why :o
Amazing content as always though !!
Great explantion as always from Shumi! However, poor choice of background music...
PD please do a video on gearing and how much you should rev a motorcycle before changing gears and please continue content like this because you are the only ones doing it at this scale and this goood .
Shumi has a P.hd in Motorcyclonomics!! No. 1 Professor in the subject.
Hahahaha! That's just perfect.
Hand friction example was awesome....powerdrift has been always awesome...bikes are made for us, powerdrift is made for bikes.
Hahah! Rather we are made just for the #PDArmy! :D
A humble request to compile all the powedrift simplified videos in a playlist and as always great content
Thank you for the clarity, highly informative content! Wanted to know more about the modern electronics in total, is it a must for motorcycles to have MTCs and Dual channel ABS and slipper clutch and ride by wire in today’s times. I mean I have a RE Thunderbird TBTS from last 10 years. I have test ridden a lot of bikes over the past few years, but comfort wise I still lean to my bike, I understand the power is quite less and that it doesn’t have any modern tech but the comfort is unbeatable and hence I have not been able to part with it.
I really appreciate the way you guys transfer knowledge in such a simple way..@powerdrift has the best content and moreover your making sure that how rider can ride safely and know their motorcyles more in depth..keep it up guys
Really simplifiPD! 🙏
Thanks. May be a second or two imagery would have been more useful.
Also an important case especially on inclines in ghat section where sudden acceleration in lower gear on a curve can cause issues.
Love this series! Clears so many doubts 👍🙏
Thanks a ton for that comrade! Do share the video with your friends so it clears their doubts as well.
I think video would have been better without background music tho. 🔥 content as always.
How about putting some graphics and animation to explain the content in question? That would be even more helpful coz when it comes to understanding complex stuff, visualisation plays a key part.
The best series with very useful and fundamental info.. great job PD 👏🏻
Yes please do a video on ' whats Power and torque '. Many videos in internet tries to simplify that... But I don't think they are close enough.
Thank you powerdrift for all the quality content.💯✌
Aye! Happy to hear you are enjoying this Enola!
Very nicely explained like a teacher 👍. Thank you
Next topic: Anti-lock Breaking Systems, and please also shed some light on the feasability of retreofitting older bikes with ABS.
Schumi could be a great engineering professor
But he's an even greater motorcycle teacher. Check this out - czcams.com/video/LbEJTDSaei4/video.html
I was just thinking about traction control and your video just pop up.. lol

Thanks PD for listening my suggested topic .... As always guru ji(shumi) done great job
We’re always listening to the #PDArmy! 😄
Shumi is an absolute legend
Shumi 👏👏👏👏
The epitome of simplicity 👍
real automotive journalism.
Excellent 👍 Thanks for the simplified explanation.
Thanks a ton Sreenivas!
I just came back to this after watching the episode on "Worlds Best Job_Harley Davidson" and this was one of the questions 🙂. I knew what it was but still wanted Shumee's expertise to understand it better. 😉
Great work need more of these , learned a lot
Hit that Like button and stay tuned. More coming you way.
Traction control really only bothered me just once while riding on a river bed with loose river rocks, otherwise it has corrected my mistakes several times when I revved too hard on slippery surfaces like grass or gravel.
Damn man, Shumi sir explains so well.. Keep it up PD with such awesome content.. One question though: Can we get a Atul sir doing a PD simplified video or a Bike review?
Thank You for that
I would like to know more about slipper clutch and quick shifter and ideal usage scenarios please
Shumi Master The Blaster 👏
As always the video was perfect 🔥 Can you do a video on how to downshift properly?
Please make a PD simplified on cornering ABS
Thank you😊. Always wanted to know how these work
Thanks for the explanation Shumi and PD!
On that note, what is your take of the TC on the Triumph Trident? It seems to be pretty notorious going by the recent reviews.
During this year the Traction Control jumped in 2 times..... was thinking that the bike was broken :D
Then I realized that traction control kicked in 1 second :P.
Good thing to have, good thing to know it's a safety net, not a second life.
Yep! It will try to keep you safe in most cases, but it too has its limit.
Plz make a video on which kind of petrol we should fill in various cc motorcycles🙏
Now I have a base line understanding about traction control 👍👍👍👍, thank you pro..
Shumi please explain that why same cc bikes didn't give 6 speed gear box? ( Mainly i am talking about 200 to 250 cc segment)
Love the series we need more of these
Love the crew as well ❤
Thank You #Powerdrift for this type of content. Also can you please make a simplified for Gear Shifting and Shifting Techniques both for racing and touring. Keep doing the good work.
P.S SCHUMI is a LEGEND!
Very well explained 👏
I juz love "PD Simplified" series 👍❤️👍❤️👍❤️
Would like to hear about flex fuels and future of auto industry
Topic Idea: How ignition systems work different types of it and how does pushing a vehicle can cause the pistons to fire up.
So addictive 😍 I have an exam on Sunday but still watching the episode 😅
Traction control in YOUR HIGHNESS effectively has saved me once and now I know the benefit of this
Great video! You say it like the IMU gives you the information about how far the throttle is open - but the imu only measures the specific force and acceleration… throttle position data has to come from somewhere else
Sir you explain so much detail you know
This series is awesome. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Please do review of Xpulse 200 4v
Soon. Stay tuned
@@powerdriftofficial waiting for it
Please make a video on handlebar risers, how to select them? are they safe? And do they affect the handling....
Very informative!
Glad you think so!
Well explained
I've experienced wheel slip on my CB Unicorn many times on wet and dusty roads. The first few times it happened I was scared so much I thought the chain was slipping (as that used to happen a lot on bicycles).
Please make a video on steering dampers.
The thumbnail background - Vittore Cossalter's book 📚❤️
So if I install new tyres with thickness different than the stock, would it mess up the traction control?
Potentially yes.
With all due respect to all my teachers, If I ever had a teacher / faculty explaining this well I would have topped all my exams :-p
Please do a video on whether we should use the same fuel (normal, extra premium/power/speed) and from the same brand/oil company? Or whether it matters at all?
Love from Bangalore
U r definitely enhancing my knowledge... Take a bow Brother...
Hey editor please consider not to use these glitch effects, PD content is very classy, keep it that way
Mr. Traction well explained
Great explanation!!
Keep it up
Hit that Like button, and we shall keep rolling out more for you!
Make a video on BMW's boxer engine
Why there is no Meteor 350 standalone review in your channel? Didn't the PowerDrift team like the Meteor 350?
Thanks for giving us a lot of useful content.
It widens the margin of error. Just like ABS. Doesn't take accountability from the rider though, so practice as much as you can.
PowerDrift always ♥️🔥🔥...
#PDArmy always 😃
Great video and Shumi is on point as always! But why the F is there a background music to this video?
P.S. Would love to hear about types of engines and their characteristics in detail. E.g. Power delivery, weight distribution, mounting, vibrations etc. of a parallel twin Vs that of a V twin.
Shumar Sir ka kilaas is a killer...bt wats wid da hard rock BGM? Instrumental mite b a lot btr
Shumi sir, a request please make videos in hindi, because when I share it with my friends, some don't understand that much. I want this gold level content reach much masses of India. Please if you can.
And secondly I want this topic to be explained further... And much to learn from.you Sir. Thank you PD 👍
Very well explained 🔥🔥
Sir, really missing bucket list .... 😢
Shumi sir please discuss performance air filters
Hey shumi, please tell me where you bought galfer brake set for your duke I need to get one. Please tell me quickly I need them right away.
ktmtwins.com
@@shu_mar thanks
great content as always 👏🏻..i heard that the high the level of traction control set it eats the tyre soon..is that true?
No
The best explanation. Thanks
Thanks shumi
Again a great video from powerdrift.
Sir, make a video on how to prevent road accidents or what to do when you facing an accident.Because it is a major question for every new rider how just start riding on highways.
Hiii PowerDrift......
Appreciate your efforts!!!!!
The background music is a bit distracting. If you can not keep it going forward. Otherwise the video series is top quality
A video on air filters sch as pod filters, stock and stock replacement filters would be helpful
can you guys make a video about imu! for eg. What is a 6 axis imu?
About slipper clutch.... It doesn't lock wheel while aggressive down shift so how does engine braking works in that case and also rev matching. I was expecting engine braking in your previous slipper clutch episode.
Hope you'd consider this.
Can you please do a video on launch control?
Thank you teacher 😊🙏🏻
👌👌👌
Amazing content as always.
Thank you Daksh!
The content is undoubtedly great but I found the background music intrusive to listen Shumi's voice.
Jury is impressed
How about topic on tire patterns and threads and its effect on various surfaces on roads. Since tire patterns too aid tractioning, wont it?
More car related videos please!!
