    Mirrors: Reflections on Maurice Ravel
Written and presented by Paul Crossley
'He's the child in all of us - the one who can carry the game of let's pretend to its ultimate extreme.'
In the first of a new series of programmes re-examining the work of great orchestral masters, pianist
Paul Crossley digs beneath the brilliant surface of Ravel's music to reveal one of this century's most troubled and haunting musical personalities. Illustrating his ideas with excerpts from
Ravel's solo piano works, the orchestral song cycle
Shéhérazade, 'La valse', 'Bolero' and a complete performance of the Left Hand Concerto, Crossley discloses the lonely paradox of a sophisticated artist with a child's heart.

My local FM radio station in a large city in SoCal never plays any part of Ravel's Scheherazade at all. This did leave out Ravel's famous advice to George Gershwin - "Why be a second-rate Ravel when you can be a first-rate Gershwin?" but the entire bio is a wonderful story of my favorite composer ever, a Pisces who did go in two directions at once. Also shows marvelously how very anti-war Ravel was at a time when we in the US may be led into a conflict that is NONE of our business. Thank you so much for the upload!

It is March, 2022, and as of this date, I can find no indication that "Fascination" was composed by anyone other than Fermo Dante Marchetti. (Not Maurice Ravel.) On the IMSLP site, there is the sheet music for this and two other Marchetti compositions.

Despite PC's 'mannered' presentation style, after all these year the programme crammed a lot of vital stuff into a short time properly and probably could not be achieved today.
PC's explanation of the concerto for left hand was full of insight and only a working musician steeped in the repertoire could tease out a terrifying "meaning" of such depth.
His analysis makes even more sense in the context of the G major concerto being written simultaneously.
    Great.
