  • “All the things you are” was written for the musical “Very Warm for May” in 1939. The music was composed by Jerome Kern and the lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. Though the show is largely forgotten, because of its combination of a strong melody and challenging, but logical, chord structure, "All the Things You Are" has become a popular standard and is considered a classic of the great American Songbook.
You are the promised kiss of springtime
That makes the lonely winter seem long.
You are the breathless hush of evening
That trembles on the brink of a lovely song.
You are the angel glow that lights a star,
The dearest things I know are what you are.
Some day my happy arms will hold you,
And someday, I'll know that moment divine,
When all the things you are, are mine!
