  • A family hadn't seen their dog for nearly a month after fleeing the California wildfires, but when they returned to their home, their pet was right there, guarding what was left of their burnt-out house. Madison the dog somehow survived the fire that wiped out the town of Paradise. Owner Andrea Gaylord greeted him with his favorite treat, Wheat Thins. She and her husband had to leave without Madison because he and his brother, Miguel, refused to get in the car. #InsideEdition

I lived in Paradise several years in the 70s/90s. My sister-in-law was living there when the fire broke out. Her escape was pretty harrowing. It's absolutely certain that her dog, Oreo, saved her life (as well as his own!) That fire traveled so quickly. Oreo's frantic barking woke her. She opened the door to a red sky, grabbed her pup and car keys and beat the fire. She lost everything, including all IDs since she left her purse. It's scary to think how close the fire got without waking her. Sad times.
