    great video! i'd personally love to see a video (like you talk about around 2:45) about how to fix problems in soldering etc! that would be really useful

      @@diyrecordingstudio +1 Yep I have a CAPI VP312DI I have to fix trace, solder pads and PCB scratches... watched a few Mr Solderfix vids but just can't seem to lift pads from scrap PCBs with any ease... or accomplish any of the other magic he performs with ease.

    I built an MP573 and EQ573 (the old version) a few years ago and they've been such wonderful workhorses. I use them constantly. I'm not a professional - just a hobbyist. I don't care if they're exactly like a real Neve 1073 - but I do care that they sound great, which they do. They're killer tools in your recording tool-belt, and an amazing deal in my humble opinion.

    Hey Mitch,
    Thanks for answering my question. Yes, we use Celsius as well here. You really inspired me to do this to the two C1 microphones arriving this week from California.
    Cheers,
    Jamie 🙂🇨🇦

    I've built the EQP 501 and the CP 5176 from Sound Skulptor (all thanks to you btw). And my next project will be the MP 573, with the matching eq.

    • @diyrecordingstudio
      @diyrecordingstudio  Před měsícem

      Oh no way, Ive had my eyes on both of those units for quite a while now. Especially the 5176. How do you find it in tracking/mixing? Howes the saturation/distortion on it?

    • @michaelrosendahl5770
      @michaelrosendahl5770 Před měsícem +1

      Well, I haven't got that much experience with out board gears, so I'm probably the wrong person to answer. But to me it sounds more organic (compare to 1176-style plug ins). And it's easier to dial in a good sounds. So far I've used it compress the living daylight out of a kick and a snare. And then use the tracks in parallell. And for a little transient kontroll while tracking vocals. I think it sounds great.

    I updates my Waves SSL Bus Comp to have the Sidechain. They all should have this now, most do...

    • @diyrecordingstudio
      @diyrecordingstudio  Před měsícem

      yeah i think every plugin comp should have that and a wet/dry dial too. Why not right?

    I have two Soundskulptor preamps and I have to say they are amazing. When I record something, I realize that I really have my own sound and this drives me crazy :) Anyway, even if they aren't exactly like the Neve ones, I would still be very happy

    • @diyrecordingstudio
      @diyrecordingstudio  Před měsícem +1

      Yeah I love them, you can push them into nice saturation, especially on drums and vocals. Theyre my go to preamp for sure!

  • @pb3662
    @pb3662 Před měsícem

    For the podcast person. If budget is an issue I would try out an SM57. Ideally a SM7 is great but you may not have the budget or preamps. 3 x sm57 will get you well started.

    I have 2 AML ez1073 (pres only) and I am really happy with them. The only thing I would have liked to see is a mic/line switch, but I just use an attenuator pad to drive line level from the converters.

    I have a pair of the mp573s with the eq573 counterparts. They sound fantastic, so whether they’re on par with actual neve’s doesn’t matter to me that much. The new DIYRE 1073s seem to be the closest DIY option, but old 1073s often sound different from each other. At the end of the day, it’s what you do with it that matters!

  • @bbmusic4983
    @bbmusic4983 Před měsícem

    I think the actual preamp in a 1073 with three gain stages is a 1290? And I think the sound skulpter 573 is missing one inductor? Suppose to be one for the HPF and two for the mid band I think. But I’m sure it still sounds great! 😊

    Candidly, I don't care what anybody says, SSK designs top notch gear and the MP573 is no exception.
    Neve or not, these are fantastic sounding units and some of the best preamps I have ever personally used or listened to 🤷‍♂️

  • @georgewoolf6300
    @georgewoolf6300 Před měsícem +1

    Neve 1272 is a two stage preamp, so Neve's don't have to be 3 stages if done right.

  • @axelrodriguez7161

    I mounted and DYIED 2 Units of Soundskulptor and 2 AML EZ 1073 (only the pres) and the AML are TOTALLY superior. Soundskulptor is reallly a cool product but maybe too fatiging on HIGH mids. AML are just butter. At the price ( Im from Spain), if the Soundskulptor cost 80-100 euros less, will be a KILLER and professional option.... But At that Price point, AML just erase and overkill the deal !

  • @TheSakuraGumiLTD
    @TheSakuraGumiLTD Před 28 dny

    the 1073 is just a preamp... the EQ is another addition... then it's not 3 gain stages it's two and you can choose between two for the first one... this person was a keyboard warrior and probably hasn't use more than a cheap interface.
    It's such a unimportant reason to not call it real.... and surely you would know it is just the EQ, the added EQ is a later offer
