I wanted to stop and point out a pretty interesting comparison I've noticed between Miyazaki and Walt Disney. In “My Neighbor Totoro”, Mei and Satsuki’s mom being sick was actually based off of when Miyazaki’s mom was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was a child. Mei and Satsuki were inspired by his own younger self as his fear and frustration over possibly losing his mother reflects through them. When looking back at his own memories of his mom, instead of focusing on the darker times, he chose to focus more on her strong will, which he would take inspiration from when writing strong female protagonists like San, Naussica, or Sophie.
Unfortunately for Walt, he did end up losing his own mother at a young age when his house caught on fire while she was still inside. This left him traumatized and explains why he always killed off the mothers in his films. He wanted to teach kids how easily they can lose their loved ones, which is why they should always be grateful for them. I’m not trying to antagonize or negatively depict Walt’s trauma from losing his mom, I just thought it was an interesting comparison to point out as it shows the different ways artists/creators choose to reflect their trauma and memories through their work.

Personally, I think he and Walt Disney have more in common than people realize, especially their childhoods - they were both forced to grow up fast to support their parents through hard times. And as a boss, it seems Miyazaki is as reluctant to pass his role on to anyone as Disney was. And when he's gone, I fear Ghibli will go the way Disney went after Walt died - with no clear successor to him, the studio will fall into the corporate leadership.

Yes it’s always a thing that I think about after learning more about Miyazaki and his son.. I love Miyazaki’s work but I find it kind of hard to imagine that a man whose works are so heartwarming and filled with kindness did not treat his son with the same affection.. I understand animation is a lot of hard work and he likely did not have time to care for his son, but still...

I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t feel comfortable assuming who is right or wrong in their relationship. We were not there to see how Hayao raised his son and what their family life is like, I don’t think it’s fair to think either one of them is wrong or right :/ it’s probably best the fans stay out of their personal lives

Will he do the same when he grow big n his father is old n need care???? Nope right because he would choose his job over his parents...
