A local beauty supply store or even a dollar store has some things missing from the process to make it much easier and prevent staining on skin, clothes, walls, etc. First-time users might not know this!
    1) Bulk plastic gloves in sizes to fit vs. the Mickey-Mouse Costume size that comes with the product. It's better to start a new process with new gloves that actually fit your hands. I like the thicker latex ones and there are also latex-free gloves that fit snugly and let you feel what you're doing better than a big old plastic bag with fingers over your hand.
    2) A rat-tail comb or parting comb to make sections and pull the product through the strands. Blobbing on with hands all over at once and trying to pull it through with fingers is the hard way and wastes product. This is really important for colors very different than current so you don't have bare and missed sections. Mandatory for doing multiple colors at once.
    3) Alligator clips or similar to hold the sections while you work on one section at a time so it's even.
    4) After making sections, use petroleum jelly or something thick like that on your hairline all the way around the hairline edge to prevent product staining. Especially behind your ears.
    5) Cotton Coil. It's a box of "cotton ball" on a roll. You tear off the length you need. Put that down on the vaseline around your hairline, especially behind your ears and the product won't run. Just pick it up and throw it away before the rinse step.
    6) A pack of plastic shower caps/processing caps that will contain the mess while you wait. Put one on over your hair and the cotton coil and protect basically everything from the color in the product. Your body heat will help the process along too.
Comb the product through root to end to ensure each strand is completely covered without the tangles that rubbing can cause.
Throw away the gloves, cotton coil, and shower cap. If done right, you never need to touch the product directly. Rinse the comb and clips to use again next time.

Why does no one invest in a package of cheap surgical gloves! Those package gloves everyone knows were made for Sasquatch

Sadly that’s just not physically possible. Can’t make dark hair lighter without lightening it
