  • Being Blind doesn't necessarily mean that you see nothing. Here, I describe what I can and cannot see as a blind man, as well as using my memory from before sight loss to help me visualise what I can no longer see.
Whilst I cannot see anything with clarity, I still see some light, so surrounding myself with bright lights kind of excites my mind, gives my brain that feeling of being alive. Add to that, lots of different textures and fragrances and you get the whole sensory experience, and a feeling of well being.
Using my sense of hearing, touch and smell together with the very limited amount of vision I still have lets me appreciate everything around me, and reminds me how blessed I am. I still appreciate nice things, and some people have said, "whats the point of nice things, if you cant see them?"
My answer to this is...whats the point of anything? Its how you connect with something through the senses you still have. When you go to bed, if you perhaps burn some essential oils, place your head on a lovely soft, fluffy pillow, then close your eyes. You can no longer see the pillow, or see your room, but from the smells from the oils and the feel of that pillow, you feel comforted, safe, secure and snuggly and can still appreciate these good things

you're very welcome Sophie - oh yes, absolutely, its amazing how we can compensate for the loss of one sense with our remaining senses

ha, the pups have the ace in terms of where to lay in this house lol. They make me smile, as they dont realise how big they are , and still try to be lap dogs, sitting own your knee :-) I hope all is good with you and that 2022 is a great years for you

Hi Terry! Wonderful video - you did a great job capturing everything and describing it. This is the first room called a conservatory I have seen outside of the board game Clue haha. Spencer looks as sweet as ever!
I do wonder, when you describe seeing the fluorescent arc or heart lights, can you perceive any difference in the color or tone/warmth of the lights? I am assuming the color is probably all the same for you. Do you find any differences between the more blue and bright hued modern LEDs versus the older yellowish bulbs versus the fluorescents?
I loved what you were saying about “tactility” as you called it. I myself have always been a very textural person. I love running my hand over those abstract paintings that are created with thick oil paints that sort of build up, for example. Variety in fabrics are also really interesting. I also find that I really hate some textures like feeling microfiber or eating avocados (or guacamole). How do you find you enjoy food that the visual presentation aspect is not necessarily there to give your stomach clues as to how tasty a meal will be?
Best wishes for you and Dean and all the doggos to stay happy and healthy in 2022!

Hi there, thanks so much for watching and commenting. haha, I sued to love Cluedo :-) I kind of think I can see a difference in the tone, in that it appears less bright to me - so for instance the white light against a cool warm light.
I guess with food, for me, the initial buzz I used to get from seeing the food clearly is now replaced with the excitement and anticipation of it, if that makes sense. We have different coloured plates too, so if I am eating :"dark" food, if its places on a light coloured plate, whilst I dont see clearly what it is, I can see a difference in contrast, so can work out where my food is on the plate etc
I LOVE avocado and guacamole lol
We are all good thank you so much, and hope that you are also - I hope 2022 is a great year for you x
