    Airline: Qantas
    Aircraft: Airbus A330-200
    Registration: VH-EBN
    Flight Time: 8 Hours

    From: Changi International Airport
    To: Melbourne International Airport
Join me on this Trip Report with Qantas Economy Class (QF) on their Airbus A330. This flight video also covers Changi Airport.
The flight between Sydney and Bangkok was a truly sad experience!
I started my experience at Changi International Airport, in Singapore. After arriving with my connecting flight from Helsinki, I visited the great Qantas Business Lounge.
    .
The Qantas Economy on board the A330-200 offers a worn seat and small legroom.
Qantas food and drinks are included in the ticket. But on this flight the food experience was sad.

That is a shocker of a meal service for SIN MEL. I used to fly it for work frequently with Qantas and up until 2022, when I last flew it with them, meals were pretty good. Brekky was hot, and dinner was decent even for economy. How disappointing that it's come down to just a pastry. I've been flying it with Singapore Airlines since then and meal service is still very good. Qantas really has gone down the shitter.

You actually are quite lucky you got one of Qantas’ international configured a330s, recently they about half the time they used domestically configured a330s in the Melbourne to Singapore flights which have no seat back entertainment screens

Qantas would respond that Sin Melb is regional not long haul. Being over night they maximise sleep time assuming people had dinner in the lounge. There should be a hot option at breakfast. Qantas relies on brand loyalty and huge frequent flyer members to capture customers.

Good points you make. Qantas seems to be penny pinching in many areas plus their fleet seems pretty old. One inexpensive change they could make is to ditch the terrible headphones & use earbuds like United and Air New Zealand have in economy. In my opinion the sound quality is way better with the earbuds.

Having just got off Emirates BC from Munich via Dubai a few hours earlier Qantas could certainly learn heaps from Emirates. But i suppose its still better than the 737's Qantas insist on flying coast to coast. One BC flight didnt even have tablets for entertainment.Shame as i use to love flying Qantas. Very underwhelming, IFE is very outdated I feel and not that interactive on the live map. Food was horrible. Luckily I managed to sleep for about 4.5hours of the flight. The rest rooms were clean but stunk ( I was the first to use after take off ). Definitely won’t be flying with qantas again in a hurry. Last time I flew with them was Melbourne to USA in the late 2000’s and that experience was very different!

SIN-MEL with Singapore Airlines last year in Business, only one meal served after take-off (about 2230 IIRC) and no breakfast. I think this route is classed mid haul by a lot of airlines with a slightly pared back service. Return flight from SYD was 2 meals

Most airlines want Australians to fly with them. Qantas just expects them to fly with them. I was a long term Qantas gold frequent flyer who flew only business class with them both on domestic and international flights. Not great. The most expensive flights. Awful partner airlines. Overcrowded lounges. Indifferent service. Constantly devaluing their frequent flyer program. I flew into Singapore in October 2011 to find chaos. QF management had shut down the airline to punish workers for asking for better working conditions and pay. Passengers were also punished with no help at all. I was stranded there for a week. All means of communication with the airline were shut down. Fortunately their competition offered a status match. I've been a very happy traveler with them and their wonderful partner airlines ever since. Just don't throw money at companies that don't deserve it.

  • @ryansofly
    @ryansofly Pƙed 26 dny +5

I used to fly QF a lot... And frankly, they're not worth the money. Ironically, QF lounges are excellent overseas. Their Aussie lounges are absolutely shit (with the exception of the international First lounges at SYD and MEL).
Food inflight is sad because in 2014 they changed it to this sorry one container set up which they've stubbornly stuck to till now. It's so embarrassing that this is Australia's best airline.
I have heaps of QF points, and I use it to redeem flights on partner airlines. I'd never ever fly QF internationally because they're very expensive from Australia, and really the bottom pile of crap.

A few observations and questions after watching this vid. I didn't see any bad service being provided - maybe your talking about "what" they served you as opposed to bad service being provided by the employees. Also not sure what you expected by your seat selection when it comes to having or not having extra legroom. Many A330's are configured like that (in my experience). Old worn down plane from 2010.? They don't just turn over planes like that - maybe your right and maybe you just got an older plane by chance. WI-FI can sometimes also be a hit and miss too. In the end yes agree that food for a long haul was a 2 out of 5.

In regards to the flight, I am under the impression you haven’t quite done your research at all, and it shows.
For starters, the seat is a relatively standard pitch/width for a regional internationally configured aircraft, albeit yes they are a little worn as they are a bit of a work horse for the company.
The snack provided after departure, is because the service is regarded as a ‘supper refreshment’ designed to maximise sleep potential as apposed to a regular meal service as you said, like you had on your DAY flight from Sydney to Bangkok.
The breakfast service is actually quite a decent offering for an economy service so I think you have your expectations a bit high in that regard, I see nothing wrong with a continental breakfast with a variety of drinks.
The wifi system has not been enabled on the international fleet as of yet and is planned for late 2024, this is due to limitations with the wifi provider.
Interesting you didn’t mention anything in regard to the crew onboard which is a significant factor on most flights, and a common talking point by more professional flight review channels, less the hard product that you seemed to focus on.
Overall I think some research in regard to the offerings on this flight by using the app, would have provided more clarity as to what the onboard experience will consist of.

That breakfast service definitely is not decent compared to other competitors in the market. Check out reviews of SQ and EK on that same route and you will see they provide noticeably more food.

@@chris_flies_business I would say the post defending every aspect of the service offering is coming from someone very closely associated with Qantas. There is no defending serving a pastry out of Singapore.

I have email Qantas with no reply - poor service
What a pity the managemnet can't think outside the square
Here on service that no one is doing and that is Queenstown and Christchurch to Adelaide a city of a over a million people with no service to the south Island of New Zealand'with a population of over a million people
A service which would have no competition
Come on Qantas get your act together!!!!!

I always thouht that only the Dutch liked to complain about everything but this also sems the case on the other side of the world. You booked an evening flight in ECONOMY, you payedan ECONOMY price and then complain about the the food? Did you really expect that people in economy class didn't have dinner prior the flight? Even in Business class you will nog get a ful three course dinner on night flights. And if WI-FI does not work this does not make the flight horrible. Maybe you should grow up and become more realistic.

I definitely prefer SQ. But on this trip the schedule and price was in favour for QF.

I don’t really see what you have to complain about here? Everything looks fine?
And if you did your research, you would know Qantas does not offer wifi service until later this year, and then it’s only while over Australia. Sorry, this video gets a dislike from me.

Hardly evidence of the airline falling apart. Did it not occur to you that most people don’t want a full meal on what is basically a supper time flight?
And, 14 year old aeroplane “falling apart”? Do you know that some of Singapore Airlines’ aircraft are over 20 years old?
Pretty ridiculous review and shows pretty much a lack of understanding about airlines and travel and I travel a LOT.

If you travel a lot you should be aware that this is far below the service you get on most legacy airlines. And my opinion regarding this is not unique, read the comments below.
