An acapella phenomenon consisting of 5 members : Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee. Their CZcams channel currently has over 17 million subscribers and 4 billion views. The group's video tribute to Daft Punk had received over 318 million views as of December 2019.

Avi left for legitimate personal reasons, there is NO PTX “beef”. The group was very understanding(yet understandably sad) of what Avi needed, he even helped find his replacement.

The only member who ever changes is the bass, which in this video is Avi (Jesus looking guy) and in their newer videos it is Matt instead. Everyone else is always the same they just change their looks a lot (especially Mitch and Kirstie)

Tony N. And also the same from Hallelujah and the evolution of michael jackson. They need to check out the evolution of beyonce. It’s a handful of years old so the newer songs aren’t there. But I love it. Also the jeff buckley version of hallelujah is pretty great.
The line up is the same except for Matt (the new bass) isn’t in this one. This is when they had Avi as the bass (guy with the beard). You may be confused by Mitch, his look changes a lot and this is a pretty early video. At this point he was heavier and didn’t have any of his tattoos and his hair was just a plain old haircut and glasses in some of the scenes. You can pretty much date a video based on Mitch’s hair.
Just a note about Avi’s departure, he left for personal reasons. PTX has a very rigorous schedule with recording and touring (they have been on tour for most of the last year). He was struggling with the schedule and family demands. I think his mother was quite ill and he was flying back and forth during tours and it was just too much. There is a video out there when the announced his leaving and it’s a real tear jerker.
These are all the original members. The only person that's different in their line up now is Matt who replaced Avi. Kirstie and Mitch change their hair colors and styles over the years. Keep in mind sometimes they change up lyrics to keep their songs family friendly. They also did thrift shop by macklemore and they definitely had to change up lyrics in that one. Superfruit does sing songs that have more adult lyrics and themes than Ptx.

As other people have said, Avi left for personal reasons (mental health, couldn't keep up with the fast pace/touring of PTX and his mother being sick) - there certainly wasn't any beef between the members. They're all still friends and support each other.
And in regards to the changing of lyrics - they do that from time to time either out of respect to Kevins religion (changing curse words) or to add something personal to the song, like they did here (Scott, Mitch and Kirstie all grew up in Texas).

@@ESMRRevengers Those three have known each other since they were 10 and they went to highschool together. (Kirstie even dated both Mitch and Scott, and Scott and Mitch dated briefly as well).

Avi left because he had severe anxiety and depression due to his mother being in the hospital with stage 4 cancer. Since they were on tour at the time he was flying back and forth between tour dates to be able to spend as much time with her as possible. It was a very stressful and wearing time for him and his family. He left after he finished his contract to be able to be there for his mother and family. His mother is better now and Avi is in a much better place as far as his own health is concerned. You should listen to his newly released EP, I'll Get By. It shows his progression from depression and anxiety to a happier place.

Mitch looks different because he lost weight. The “Texas” line is because that’s is where they’re from. Wow... she’s really pressed.
It’s not the weight that threw me off with Mitch it’s the more recent extreme hairstyles and glasses. Haha yeah I’m not sure why that bothers Anweezy so much. 😂
They often change the lyrics, either to make some neat references or to remove cuss words in respect to Kevin's beliefs

The part where Mitch says "Thats what you get when Texas raised ya" part is an ad lib in reference to PTX: Mitch, Scott, & Kirstin grew up in the same area of Texas and have been friends since high school. Just wondering if you do a reaction to their cover of "Somebody that i used to know" next?
I try not to give you guys a hard time, but the line up has changed once Avi left and Matt became the bass. And you CANNOT avoid getting sued by changing a line in a song. People have been sued for a piece of a melody in a song. They got a contract and the rights to perform the song from Macklemore and Lewis through a legal agreement.because it was part of one of their albums.
Just a reiteration of what +TexasTigerDigs Urban Van Life, Knife and Tools said--this is not a CZcams copyright strike issue, as the song was part of an actual record (PTX: Volume II). This is a lot more than what CZcams reactors navigate, and I can't imagine how Macklemore and Ryan Lewis don't get royalties from the sales of the EP with their song on it. The minor changes in the lyrics don't rise to the level of a new composition, and this is not a parody (as many viral videos have used as an excuse to not get blocked). PTX will change the lyrics to eliminate profanity (cough "Finesse" cough and cough "Thrift Shop" cough) and occasionally they change the verbiage in rap sections of songs to make them more relevant to the group (like in this song and in their cover of Nicky Minaj's "Starships"). They generally *don't* change pronouns; especially of note is "Havana", in which Scott and Mitch both sing about a male lover (yes, they're both gay, but that's beside the point that Anweezy was making).
There is a video where they sit down and explain why Avi left, yall should watch it since it was a big part of the whole Pentaholic family.

They are THE SAME PENTATONIX MEMBERS!! Mitch lost weight and changes his look A LOT! as does Kirstie... Avi the bass is the ONLY MEMBER that was replaced by Matt in 2017...Avi was a member from 2011 to 2017...
We haven’t done as many early joints so thus the confusion!
Awesome reaction, as always! I was waiting if you figure out it's Mitch :D. When I got into them after only seeing Evolution of Music, which was around this time and then The Sound of Silence, I thought Mitch was a new guy too, so I get it :D.
Also, when you talked about not changing the lyrics, I remembered Havana, because I thought it was cool that Scott just sang the chorus without changing the pronouns. It's such a small thing but I love that they did that. Though obviously, they did change the rap part to be family friendly, so there's that. But Havana also made me fall in love with Matt because it was one of the first songs he did with them as an official member and you could see how happy he was to be there :).

Kevin wouldn't sing about drugs. So they sometimes switch up the words to avoid swearing. And they throw in their name into the songs. When the did Thrift shop, they changed to "big duck" and a few other places as well.
They most certainly did not drop Mitch Grassi from the group. The bass is the only person that left the group of their own volition for personal reasons. Nobody has ever been dropped from Pentatonix. The person that left took a large piece of everybody's heart with them including the group members. You are seeing them at different times in their career abd Mitch and Kirstin change appearance frequently. But Pentatonix has ALWAYS consisted of "The Trio" (Mitch Grassi (usually has black hair & always has the high notes), Kirstin Maldonado (the girl), and Scott Hoying (tall blond guy), and Kevin Olusola. The only change is when original Bassman Avi Kaplan left the group in need of a slower pace and to be closer to family. Avi recommended Matt Sallee as a good fit 4 the group as a bass singer. Auditions were held and Matt was chosen for a several-month trial by fire which included a Christmas tour, televised Christmas Special on NBC and an Official Music a Video (Deck The Halls), as well as being the bass on several songs that were added to the previous year's Christmas album to make a Deluxe version. At the end of this trial It was announced that Matt was officially a member of the group. They have said that they love his work ethic and he works harder than any of them ever have Plus he has a vibe that fits with the rest of them on a personal level. Since they have to spend so much time together that's very very important.

THEY’RE ALL THE SAME PEOPLE lol!!! That’s Mitch he just looks different, and Kirstin also looks different. This was an early video, and they’ve changed their looks a lot since then. Mitch was heavier, Kirstin changes her hair a lot and has different makeup looks etc. I feel like Kevin and Avi look the same pretty much, at least not different enough to not know who they are lol! Anyway, just keep that in mind when watching older videos. PS: I’m surprised you didn’t know it was Mitch considering he did that high note, that’s signature Mitch right there lol! Love your reactions, and you guys are hilarious! I’m subscribed! 😁

This was on their album so they had to get permission to record it. The words that they changed were so minor, that it wouldn't stop a copyright claim if they didn't get it cleared. In most cases when artists change a lyric it's to personalize it and make it relative to them/their experience. For that reason, I personally don't have an issue with it.

Pentatonix change around and cut lyrics a lot (they cut a whole verse out of Hallelujah). Sometimes it's for Kevin's religion, sometimes it's to throw in a little reference (like this time), and sometimes it's just to keep the arrangement moving along if it's getting too stagnant

Okay, this is the first reaction to this song that I did not like. PENTATONIX is known for putting their own spin on songs and making them their own. It's their versatility in arranging these songs that make what they do unique. If you want to hear the original song, you should just listen to the original song. PENTATONIX'S may not be for you. And lighten up, it's not that serious.
