True confession ... I don’t do food photography BUT I watch because every thing you talk about has application is so many other areas of photography. You keep doing what you do and I’ll keep watching. You were born to teach. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Cheers.
Thank you Robert!! And glad to know this wackiness applies for other photo arenas! Hugs to you!
I just discovered your channel the other day, and I have been binge watching so many of your videos. :) You are a really great teacher, breaking down stuff that can be really confusing without being patronizing. I am seriously learning so much from your videos, so thank you!!
So glad to hear!! Welcome to the party, Jennifer!!
Love the term, "the leaning tower of triggers" 🗼😂 you make the technical sound so doable, easy and less complicated 😊
Gotta have fun with it! :)
That's really great for professional work Joanie, may u live long life with these nice smiles always
I love your videos!! The way you synthesize and make all the topics digestible 🥰 thanks!!
Thank you so much this really helped me 🌹❤️❤️
MIND BLOWN!!!!!!!! and to think that those little youngnuo triggers are no longer in my camera bag. Daammmnn!!
Thanks Joanie, you're the best teacher!
Thank you! 😃
That was Fun...
Now Let's Take a Look at the Camera Storage😏
If you want the next level nerd stuff, which maybe I'll do a video on at some point? check out thebiteshot.com/photography-blog/the-byte-shot. An overview that Mr. Simon wrote up about my rig and storage.
I had no idea you could use the Youngnuo trigger that way! Did you have to purchase the sync cord separately, Joanie? Also, that blog post you linked to on your storage is chock full of good info, most of which is over my head, but my computer is crawling these days and I know I need to make some upgrades. Wish we all had a Mr. Simon to make sense of it all 😉 As always, thanks for the great content. Hope you're well! ❤️
I can see a new trend on CZcams "What's on my hot shoe" bad enough I'm hooked on those what's in my bag videos. Thats how I found your channel 😀
Thank goodness I'm a Street and Urban Photographer my Amazon account would be getting a work out😆 all joking aside its nice there is tech to eliminate the cords. I had the same triggers with my Canon 7Dmk ii, when I was shooting Motorcycle and Car shows and other event if I wanted to highlight details on the vehicle I would put my flash and trigger on its stand the one that comes in the box but no one ever uses, on the floor pointed up and on low power and use that to pop the flash from a low angle and it made the vehicle pop and I have used them to trigger the camera remotely too.
These days I don't carry as much equipment since I switched up what I photograph now I carry a lumecube, I can vary my light level and make it strobe. My new camera can operated remotely via my smartphone
What's on my hotshot an adapter to mount the microphone on the side so I can use my flip up screen in selfie mode, but I don't selfie mode, I also have a cage if I need to go into Video shooter mode with lights and microphone.
Love it! Yep, like you know the studio life can start to generate quite the expense bill. Trying my darndest to keep the setup simple, but ya know, it's a slippery slope in gear world :) lol Thanks for stopping by Donald!
@@TheBiteShot
The studio environment is a whole different situation, you actually do need a lot of equipment, different stands, arms, booms, cables, adjustable tables, lights, modifiers, gels, backdrops, light meters, tethering cords, I've done studio work as a PA hours of set up and take down. Not to mention props and the most important tool Gaffer's Tape, I still carry some with me to this day.
The studio your are controlling the light and mood for Street Photography You are capturing the moment as it is.
I’ll save you the time. It’s a Godox trigger followed by another trigger she uses as a remote cable release followed by a spirit level.
Thanks for the recap, Lucy! Cheers and happy Thursday
I had to laugh at the timing of this video. I just received another trigger to add to my shoe and was wondering just how high can I go. Well, thanks for answering that question!
Sky's the limit!!! lol!!
Love the videos. But what would you use in a small restaurant kitchen if you were struggling for space and time? Is there one off camera flash that would do an adequate job?
I use it since about one year, is absolutely great!
Thanks Joanie!
Sure thing! Hope you're having a great day Jody
Hey there what's shakin bakin ! You're really energetic in your videos and watching you just give out so much positive vibes !
Shakin' that bacon all day long!!
Hi Joanie, Always love your videos and come back again and again for all the queries....just wanted to check whether the yongnuo trigger will work with Z series...Z6 & Z7....I think the camera used in this video also is a Z7
I just found this video, thank you so much, I am a huge fan 😍. I have a question, hopefully you or someone else can help. I use the port to connect my camera to my computer, for tethered shoot, is there anything to get 2 devices connected to this port? Can’t seem to find anything online
Yongnu triger pair is quite handy, I have a yongnu speedlite that has a built-in trigger so it comes in a total number of 3 and I can add a fill-light of other flash brands to the mix
Can you please share which spirit level you're using? I see that Manfrotto has one for like $100 CDN, but then there are ones for $14 on Amazon (which are probably terrible). What would you recommend?
I had to put my photography development on hold the last year but glad to see you are making videos and doing well. I appreciate your camera presence, personality and approach. Covid forced me to work on streaming, making videos and getting used to talking on camera. Whew!
Keep it up! Good things for us creative folks ahead in 2021!!
Hi Joanie,
I like your channel and your personality. It is always fun to watch. ;)
At 3:22 you show a Westcott/Yongnuo setup. I actually have exactly the same setup - my "Westcott" is a "Rollei" but is the same trigger (Jinbei in the end). I also have the Yongnuo and Z7. But when I put my Westcott/Rollei onto my Yongnuo trigger I can only trigger one flash and after that it does not flash anymore. Until I trigger a flash with the test button on the Westcott/Rollei. Then I have again only one flash. Did you observe this too? And if so did you solve it?
My workaround at the moment is to use a dual hot show adapter. With this setup the flash triggers with every shot from the Yongnuo. I suppose the signal does "go through" the Yongnuo as it should be.
Are these serve as remote trigger for the camera or for the flash?
Hi Joanie! I'm learning a lot from you these days as I start learning how to use artificial light in my food photography. I tried to find this trigger set but seems like there is none for Sony camera... Is there any recommendation you would want to give for sony camera user? I have Sony a7c :)
Joanie, thank you for explaining your leaning tower of triggers! I do currently have a wired remote but do plan to purchase a wireless remote. I appreciate your ability to explain your ideas with ease and allowing your followers to understand.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Michael! Glad to have helped!
@@TheBiteShot you are welcome. My mainstay is landscape, but am working on adding still-life.
perfect timing joanie! I was just playing around with flash last night after watching your artificial academy course, was so excited when everything connected!
EEEE!! I'm so excited for you Jenna! Glad to hear you're rockin' and rollin'!
Very interesting--some new possibilities! How do you maintain consisent color balance across different flash brands and power levels, or do you worry? I'm currently looking at getting a studio strobe (Einstien 640) to use with my Yongnuo speedlites. The studio strobe for the key light with the yongnuo speedlites doing the fill, accent and gobo (light pattern) roles. Thanks.
Sync cord of yongnu trigger in canon has 2 models, I'm on a crop sensor camera, so I had to buy a new cord for that, apparently it depends on if you are full frame or crop sensor
Curious what prompted the switch from Canon to Nikon? Edit: Another video had a gear list - looks like the switch was for Nikons color science?
Yep! If you hop down in the comments of this video, I gave a little bit more insight into the reason why.
Thank you for the value packed content! So much to learn!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks! That hot shoe level is too cute!
Right? Love that little thing.
Holly Molly! I didn't know that you can mount various triggers on the camera at the same time!!! I just bought a strobe, but I bought the Flashpoint R2 Pro MarkII Transmitter which hasn't the hot shoe to mount another trigger. Do you recommend me to change it for the Flashpoint R2 Mark II similar to what you are using in the video? I do action shots so I usually use the remote shutter. Just yesterday I was thinking that I couldn't use the remote when using flash and you just saved my life with today's video!
Thank you so much
As long as the one that's serving as a remote control is plugged into the sync port, that's all that matters. The remote shutter one doesnt have to be on the shoe to get the remote function working.
@The Bite Shot Thank you so much for answering! I just tried what you said and ohhh gosh, I was being so silly lol. I didn't know that neither. I had ordered the other trigger, but the one I have works perfectly as you says!
I love the godox triggers I like the fact that you decided to hop on the ship of Nikon which I love that company.. my question to you is why did you decided to get into the Nikon mirrorless z series rather than Canon or others camera company?..
Yep, hopped into Nikon a little over a year ago, buying a used Nikon D750 based on a suggestion from a friend that I might prefer the color rendering in Nikon. I'd been feeling frustrated with the color sooc with Canon so gave Nikon a go and it definitely felt more like "home" in terms of the images to my eye and personal taste. There are some things in Nikon DSLRs that frustrated me a bit, primarily having to do with tethering workflow and how I was used to working in the studio on Canons. But, the Nikon mirrorless solves all those problems, provides a seamless workflow, and has increased some flexibility in client work by having the luxury of a 45mp file...plus that sweet sweet 24-70mm f2.8S glass...it's a delicious lens :). So, all that to say, all cameras are great, but I feel at home in a Nikon mirrorless and have yet to discover any limitations in it for the work that i do.
@@TheBiteShot thank you for explaining that whole story I really enjoyed it I think that you are a wonderful creator and I'm also happy that you're not using your phone for your work..🙄.. I hope you have a valentine special video for us 🤩 or a late one.. and one more last thing I think you should put some background music jazz or perhaps some type of r&B just to give the mood to your audience including myself.. but anywho I hope you have a safe and wonderful Valentine's day with you and your husband + kid(s). ✊🏿
why don't you use the phone as a trigger ? ( nikon's snapbridge )
I like one single tangible button...the phone works, but between keeping the phone charged, and locating the button on the screen every time, I personally like something tactile.
Thank you Joanie! I also own two Yongnuo triggers but I didn't know that it was possible to mount multiples triggers on your camera. I'll begin using them as you do.
I've tried this setup, but for some reason, it doesn't work for me. So far I've been using a double hot shoe, where I connected the remote trigger and the flash trigger. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be?
Are you connecting the one for remote firing via the sync port? It doesn't actually have to be in the hot shoe, it's more about connection to the sync port for the remote.
@@TheBiteShot great tip, thank you!!
So, just to be clear - the Godox is controlling the Godox lights and the Yongnuo is not controlling the lights in this case - you're using it as a remote? I think that's the part I was getting confused by as I associate Yongnuo with cheap lights...but you're using Godox lights. The Yongnuo is called a "Remote Flash Trigger Kit" but you're not using it for the lights?
Correct, the Yongnuo is only for the remote shutter, it's having zero effect on the lights. The Godox trigger is controlling the Godox lights and if I use the Westcott trigger it controls the Westcott light.
@@TheBiteShot thanks lovely Joanie! Can't wait for your book :D
@@TheBiteShot Hi Joanie, let me jump in like this. :) Does this mean that this Yongnuo trigger generally does not affect the light or just in this case in the video?
Because I have a Nikon z6II (and SB700 speedlight) and I'm struggling to find a tigger that I will be using for studio lighting (some old Bowens).
Can these triggers work with Nikon z6ii? Thank you
Yes, absolutely
Thank you "Shaking Bacon" :), now I'm looking to extend my triggers collection, LOL!
Have a question, I have the Godox X-Pro N flash trigger, works perfect, but I see you have the X2 with a hot shoe for remote trigger, which the X-Pro N doesn't have, any recommendations?
Thank you in advance.
Just an update note, found the perfect solution for the lack of a hot shoe on my Godox XP Pro N, or any of my triggers, is a kind of "T" shape that mounts in the hot shoe and the ends on top are hot shoes made just for Nikons, search on Amazon for "Andoer Dual Hot Shoe Flash Speedlite Bracket Splitter for Nikon", perfect for me, you might like it. Again, thank you for all your help with the videos, some of your lessons have actually put food on my table at times.
Thank you Joanie for this video. I bought a new camera and I am struggling to use the equipment that I already have. That's why I was one of the thousands that asked you the same question 😬🤭 Both of my triggers does not have an extra hot shoe, so I was trying to find some kind of adapter that have 2 hot shoes do use the equipment that I already have. I guess this probably will be more expensive than buy a new trigger? 🤷♀️ Anyways, thanks for sharing your gear. Have a lovely day 🌷
For the trigger that is plugged into the sync port, it doesn't need to be connected to the hot shoe, so for the one that you're using as a remote, if you can hang it off the camera or affix it some other way, it will still work.
True! I think for taking photos at home should be ok. I starting to get some inquiries, so I just want to look more professional in front of the client. I need to start making money with photos, before switching my hole gear 😂😂😂 Thanks Joanie
great video joanie, thank you! one question, would it be possible to use two trigger sets, one for remote control, and the other to use with flash? Thank you"!!
Yep, that's what I'm doing here. The Yongnuo controls the remote shutter. The Godox controls the Godox lights.
@@TheBiteShot oh, ofcourse, I formulated my question so badly hahahah, I meant that if i would have two sets of the yonguno controls, would that work too? one set that controls the flash, and the other that controls the remote shutter? THANK YOU!!!
Love you so much 💕💖💖💖💖💖💖. Can you answer mime question too
Do you know Command K?
Very nice good video thanks for the sharing💟👍
