But keeping people alive means they live longer, get other chronic illnesses that will stay with them until the day they die. So as example, sure the HIV maybe ‘cured’, but they will in the future get diabetes/hypertension/cancer. If your patient dies, they are dead. The end. No profit. So your logic does not make sense.

Was AZT restricted to patients in the advanced stage of the disease so that the deaths from AZT could be blamed on AIDS? This is curiously like Remdesivir which was restricted to those with the advanced stages of covid -- this way when Remdesivir combined with intubation killed patients, it could be logically attributed to covid and not to Remdesivir and intubation.

They've actually come a long way since AZT was the only treatment available. There's still not a cure, but people aren't dying like they were in the 80s and 90s. Hiv+ people can lead long normal lives now as long as they take their medication everyday. The virus replicates so quickly it was once thought impossible to even slow down the progression to AIDS.

Amazing to me that now 40 years later we still dont have universal healthcare. I was alive for this. In the interim, under a Repub admin, this country has gone nowhere but down. Hospitals are now businesses. Medical practices are being bought out. I lost my PCP because of this. He was a geriatrician who quit because he was being worked to death. He left behind 500 patients who were told there wasn't room in the practice for them and they had to go elsewhere. I was lucky to find a doc who would take me but I have only seen her once and I really don't have a relationship with her. Docs who are going for interviews and if they object to anything in the cobtract, they are told you don't like it - go somewhere else.
