- Toyota Hilux owners can have their DPF switch customised to enable manual DPF regeneration starting at Level2. This can be enabled by your Toyota Dealer. This feature is very useful if travelling through areas of dry vegetation.

The custom mode is not activated on my vehicle, however I can see the soot accumulation on my phone via an ELM327 device. When it reaches 100% (I know this is a percentage of a percentage) I can see the EGT rise quickly to around 700deg. Meanwhile I can see the accumulation drop as it is doing a burn. When finished, EGT returns to normal level. I never had a problem, then again my car mainly does long distance driving..
Very informative video, keep it coming!
We don’t apply a lot of custom modes. I’d be interested to know how many people have actually had them done because we don’t get many requests.
Is this customisation through gts or one of those brake pedal, door open close things?
It’s a series of manual inputs. We can customise this for you, no problem.
Hi there, i have a Toyota Hilux DX 2017. It doesn't have a button to start the process. Is there a way to force it to start? Ive seen some people say you need to drive it on a highway for 15-20 mins over 3000 revs to burn it clean. Also, do you recommend the use of DPF cleaner liquids that are put into the diesel?
Go to toyotamanuals.com.au. In the Guides section, you will find all DPF related information. We do not recommend products not approved by Toyota.
do Toyota charge the customer to customize this manual regen feature
Dealer may charge for it to be performed
I have a 2015 hliux and when its doing a burn while driving it pisses out white smoke when i accelerate. Anyone know why and how i can fix it?
Hi
Thanks for reaching out. Large amounts of white smoke during a dpf burn is not normal and should be diagnosed by a Toyota dealer
So there’s no reason why any dealer should be denying applying custom mode?
Why would they want to do that?
All dealers have access to this information on how to customise. You should have no problem getting in done on your car
Do I have to book in (service booking) to have the custom mode activated? Or can I just drive in & have it done? Thanks
Hi
You can drive in, ask to speak with Darek and I’ll apply it to your vehicle. We are located at 88 Station Street, Nunawading
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 Great! Thanks Darek!
Hi Darek. I’ve got a 2016 hilux which has had the dpf changed. My model does not have the manual dpf button. Would I be able to get it fitted to my hilux and have the computer updated to show my dpf levels?
Thanks for getting in touch. You can install a DPF switch and the dealer can turn on custom mode to perform a manual burn, as well as display when it’s doing a burn. 2016 model will not show DPF levels.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 can that be done for free? And would the dealer do the installation of the button to the computer?
Do you happen to have a part number for the dpf switch to be installed, or does it have to be completed by a service center. My local service said there was no such button. I have a 2016 fortuner gxl. Thanks aaron
@AaronHornung-jq7wm For a Fortuner we use Switch Kit-DPF, Part No. 84093-71070. There is a lot of work involved to install the kit. May want to approach your dealer for assistance
As hard and as often as I ask my dealer to do this, they will not on my 2019 Prado. There is no other dealers nearby so Im stuck 😞
What is the reason behind their decision?
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 No reason, it just isnt done or they say they have and they havent or "we will have a look next time". 3rd service with them Ive asked for this so far.
@@1Coolbanana Contact the guest experience centre and explain what happened and request immediate action from the dealer
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 I will give that a go. Thanks
Which dealership is this? Not Chatswood is it?
Hi there if the dpf shows on the dashboard which have 4 bars and im running for 100k/hr do i need to carry on driving and wait for the dpf regeneration process to be gone?thanks
Hi. You can turn engine off during the regeneration process. System will continue regeneration next drive cycle.
Turning off while doing a burn is counterproductive to the life of the dpf, you are better off continuing driving until it’s completed the burn, you miss the burn phase too many times your asking for more trouble than what it’s worth.
Is it possible to initiate the manual burn while moving or if not to start it parked and then let it burn while moving?
On the Hilux you can start the manual burn while stopped and then proceed to drive the vehicle. The system will then change over to an automatic burn. When in automatic burn you can also park the vehicle and press the switch to continue a manual burn.
My 70series stops the manual burn as soon as I touch the accelerator pedal. I wasn't aware that it would continue with an automatic burn. Haven't seen this written I the Toyota info, so learning something new. Thanks Darek.
Thanks for the comment. My response to the viewers question was specific to Hilux. We haven’t confirmed that 70 series does the same. Hilux Fortuner Prado certainly change to automatic burn. Next time we get a chance to customise a 70 series we’ll confirm whether it does or not.
@@nunawadingtoyota8134 Darek, I tried a manual DPF burn yesterday on my 2019 78series Troopcarrier which has had the custom mode 2 procedure. After starting a manual burn at level 3, I touched the pedals and the burn stopped, but when I drove the vehicle, the burn was continued and was completed 10 minutes later.
No mention is made of this in the previous DPF info manual and I was not able to download the book in your video from the Toyota manuals website. But it is good information to know, so thank you again.
Thanks for the feedback. You can request a copy of the booklet from your local dealer
