    My understanding of the history is that they wanted to make a sandwich you can eat with one hand. They had truck drivers in mind.
    That is why the sides(fries and slaw) are inside the sandwich.
    Also you can order any kind of meat and cheese for your sandwich. Pastrami, corned beef, capicola, steak, sausage even eggs. It is always on that Italian bread and has fries and slaw inside.

    The original Primanti Brothers is in the Strip District.It used to be a sandwich shop.The sandwich evolved from truckers coming into the city.They would order the sandwich that came with fries and coleslaw on the side.Truckes would be in a hurry and some would say put the fries and coleslaw on the sandwich so they can eat while driving. Eventually everyone would order it that way and that is how the famous Primanti Brothers Sandwich was evolved.If you want the real deal go to the Strip District.

    First off I love Primanti Bros sandwichs. My wife is from Western PA and introduced me to them. They actually have become somewhat of a chain now or at least licensed one as there are now Primanti Bros as far east as York PA. Not a gripe, but piling sides on sandwiches isn't exclusive to Primanti Bros. Hell, I've been doing it since I was a child, long before I ever even heard of them. The best part of the story though is that they had the truckers in mind when they started doing it. God bless the truckers and all that they do. Unsung heroes in this country.

      @Bobby Brady of course, it's just that i'm from Queens and i don't often hear or see the term "cheese pizza." i think we mostly say "plain" or just "two pies" etc. though, i know it's called "cheese pizza" elsewhere.

    Served at a primanti bros, the burger in the Pittsburger is like a Salisbury steak patty, it's coleslaw not lettuce or onions, and the alcohol is the #1 seller because they have happy hour 4pm-7pm and 9pm-close everyday and the happy hour special is every alcoholic beverage (other than those with red bull, or the alcoholic milkshakes) is 50% off. They also have wing specials every Sunday and Monday. It's an amazing sports bar, thats in many locations outside of PA

    I had their capicola sandwich a couple of weeks ago & I was really confused about what I was eating. It was like the burger Dave just had, but with hot ham like a pancetta under all the fries & salad. I said, "Where's the capicol'?" And they pointed to the ham and said that's it. It was a great sandwich, but more in a Midwest way than an Italian way.

    • @Runescape_God
      @Runescape_God Před 2 lety

      Yeah I agree that their Capicola has more of a ham-taste than a typical Capicola.
      I agree with the Midwest take, but that's not to say there aren't Italians in the midwest. For example, Chicago. Pittsburgh had a considerable Italian population, similar in percentage to Philadelphia's during the 20th century. A lot have left, but many are still there.
