Fifty Two years ago. And still it fits in to the music today. With the percussion weaving in and out it reminds me of Franks, Stucco Homes. (another great guitar solo)
The Burnt Weenie Sandwich was actually one of his favorite foods. Sometimes there are no hidden meanings. 🤟
This is low key one of his absolute best albums. Holiday in Berlin off this album has one of his best melodies and guitar solos. Little House I Used to Live In is arguably his most epic track.
My all time top allbum.
I think I've programmed my gut biome to Holiday in Berlin. I sometimes load the CD in my car and listen to it everyday, for a period of time. Have to be careful not to listen to anything too much, but Holiday in Berlin is me, or I am Holiday in Berlin, I'll have to consult a physician to figure which it is
possibly my fav Frank album
Nobody did stuff like that at that time, which makes Frank so unique
Burnt Weenie Sandwich is one of my Zappa go to's. I love the guitar solo and how it is so unobtrusive. Keep up the great content guys!!
I think Frank put all the music on the ground. No one is able to do something greater than he does. When I think about Frank I always think about you my fantastic people. You are unique with your reactions, you are natural, funny, normal people. I am so happy to watching you. Thank you so much for what are you doing. 😊😊😊
Thanks for being here Greg!
Truly a gem among Zappa albums. But I'm thinkin' you need to hear the Don "Sugarcane" Harris' violin solo over the band's sick groove. "The Little House I Used To Live In" is not only Burnt Weenie Sandwich, but a commitment sandwich at 18+ minutes. But maaan...as FZ says on the album cover itself, "God, this is a tasty little sucker".
Blessings.
Burnt Weeny Sandwich remains my favorite Zappa LP, and "Little House I used to Live In" from same is still my favorite Zappa piece (one of these days you two will get to it).
As an aside, the album cover was originally created by Cal Shenkel (who did most of Zappa's early artwork) for an unrealized Ornette Coleman project that Zappa was producing.
I remember eating burnt weeny sandwiches as a kid. It was no big deal. We had them all the time. BTW -- a zappa album I come back to time & time again. Like Uncle Meat.
As he explained in "The Real Frank Zappa Book", his meal/snack of choice was to come upstairs from the studio pull out a hotdog and cook it in the flames off the gas stove burner in their kitchen. No hidden meaning on this one!
One of my all time favourites.
I love the ridiculous percussion towards the end. It fits the song brilliantly
I JUST listened to this whole album yesterday! It's got a lot of music that would become part of 200 Motels. Great instrumentals.
this has long been a favorite of mine, you all might want to check out Cruising with Ruben & the Jets.
Man, The little House I used to Live in off of this is one of his best. Don Preston plays a mean piano after Sugarcane's Violin solo, which is also top notch. Holiday in Berlin (Full Blown) shares its melody with 'Would You like a Snack' off of 200 Motels. One of the few Flo & Eddie songs I like. That Mystery Roach and a few others. 👍 Keep up the good Zappa work.
Thanks Dreggymon!
G’day mates, I completely wore this album out, had to get another one. In the early 70’s and pretty much all FZeds’ early albums were import only, so had to wait for them on order.. as a 14 year old it was exiting and like waiting for a movie to come out, he was so prolific you knew the next installment was just around the corner,,, great times,,, you guys should really do full FZ album reactions, especially the early ones ,,
anyway good one, keep it going,……
ooroo, {-🎼🎵🎶
Congratulations. You just listen to one of the best songs Frank Zappa ever put out
A lot of the percussion sounds were the result of a VSO (Variable Speed Oscillator) which Frank would use from time-to-time during the engineering process.
Great choice, Wayne. Love the guitar tones from this period. Ethereal.
Always thought this should be the theme to an opening tracking shot following a dude walking to work in a major city
Tunes like this is what makes Frank Zappa the GOAT!!!
Thats right .
Get your FRANKA ON
Nice reaction again, thanks! And this is one of my favourite albums, with FZ on electric and acoustic guitar but also as a virtuoso composer. Maybe you should hear the whole album to catch the continuity, the segue from one track to another. Meet also Ruth Komanoff on percussion :)
This is one of the earliest examples of what would become the Shut Up And Play Yer' Guitar albums. There are other examples before this, like 9 types of Industrial Pollution from Uncle Meat, but besides that there are very few guitar solo songs by Zappa in the style of SUAPYG. AFTER this album they start popping up more often, but BEFORE this album, very few. Only that one that I can think of. And even then... THIS song fades in on a guitar already playing, and fades out on a guitar still playing, which is VERY MUCH the syle of SUAPYG. In that it's just the solo taken from the middle of something else to become a new song.
While 9 types ends and starts. No fades.
Great album, but I probably would have gone with either Holiday In Berlin Full Blown or Little House I Used To Live In. I’m sure you two will eventually get to them. You have always had great taste!
Frank would sometimes strain and heave some molten sound frisbees from his gas chasm and cupcake the world for his own amusement.... this is what he might be doing here, he was also suffering from gritty pips when he belched this vibration formation out....thanks for another Frank reaction Dan & Sifa you're lovely.
Thanks for being here ❤️!
Spent many hours in my youth with this record in my headphones. I still love it.
One of his best albums
One of my favorite albums. This one really give me the feels, which is odd, not something Frank shot for, actually. It's mostly instrumental and harkens back to the old country. I imagine myself in early 20th century Europe sitting in the park listening to many of these compositions, especially side one. Great stuff.
Thanks for sharing Frankincensed!
BWS remains my favorite Zappa record (likely because it's mostly instrumental--I mean I love Zappa's lyrics, especially during the original Mothers era--but this was a prime example of FZ compositional skill before it got maybe a little too needlessly complex.) And to echo others you must do Little House...off of this album. It's one of FZs greatest.
I never realized how similar this is to Nine Types of Industrial Pollution from Uncle Meat.
From my favourite Zappa album. A very creative period for Frank.
IMO this is one of the lesser songs on Burnt Weeny Sandwich . Try Holiday in Berlin (full blown). It’s just great.
I love that album especially holiday in Berlin and little house I use to live in .
A fellow person of culture.
This album and hot rats are probably the two of Franks I play the most. Some beautiful melodies on the album and also epic playing (little house I used to live in).
❤FZ🎶
A very conventional guitar solo laid over Varese-type percussion. He didn't scare any of the "guitarists" of that time with this. There's no Air sculpture here, just a plain if simple guitar solo. Like others have said, no great meaning here, but that goes with lots of his work. Always liked this track.
Finally! Some or most of this dates from 1967. Put that in yer snuff box and save it for a rainy day :)
Nice to see you folks. Make sure to vote
Thanks for watching!
here is a list of Zappa guitar solo songs up until Shut Up And Play Yer' Guitar
1. 9 Types of Industrial Pollution
2.Theme from Burnt Weeny Sandwich
3. Get a Little
4. Willie the Pimp (kind of)
5.Son of Mr Green Genes...(again kind of... because it's' more than just a solo, but there's no denying that after you have listened to side one of that album it feels like you just listened to two long guitar solos.
6.Transylvania Boogie
7. Black Napkins
8. Zoot Allures
9. Shiek yer Bouti Tango
10. Rat Tamago
11. Sleep Dirt
12. The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution
13. Filthy Habits
14. Fembot in a Tee Shirt...or Toad O line... depending on which version you own of the album.
15. He Used to cut the Grass
16. Outside Now...(again... kind of)
17. Watermelon in Easter Hay
18. Now you see it, Now you don't
I think I got them all... that's it...18 songs like SUAPYG before SUAPYG-
Iincluding one that almost for sure ended up on Tinsletown Rebellion because he couldn't figure out how to work it into SUAPYG orrr it was designed as a preview of what you would get if you ordered SUAPYG because it was a song on the album that had innersleeves with an advertisement for SUAPYG.
I really love your engagement in music, makes me reenvent the experience myself :D The Icelandic band Sigur Rós has released a remaster of their album () “untitled” I really, really like u to react to this album. Sigur Rós makes extremely emotional music in their own made language, this band changed my life a bit, to the better, and I really want you guys to be a part of that. 🙂
Thanks for watching Kristian! You can suggest all reactions through our patreon; we’d love to hear more Sigur Ross!

OK...I'm 46 years old...I don't listen to "new" music...but I love Moongaze.
We love you for commenting that Scott! Thanks so much!
Great stuff from official release #9 which was released on February 9, 1970. The tune was recorded in 1967 though. Burnt Weeny Sandwich is kind of a companion album to Weasels Ripped My Flesh, both released after Frank disbanded the original Mothers... LSD you say? As Jean-Luc Ponty said: "How would you like to have a head like that?"
Nic attack nice reaction. Cheers
Thanks Mark!
Can you do a reaction to psquare - No one like you
Frank relaxing.
Hey, how do you know it kind of sounds like LSD, have you ever been "EXPERIENCED" ! just kidding....
This is one album I don't have of Franks...This and zoot allures..I think this is a compilation of recordings of the mothers of invention that Frank decided to release....Maybe he over cooked some of these numbers in the studio...Some interesting tunes on this album but Jimmy Carl Black's drumming is so rigid.
