If you needed to send the same email to multiple people at once, how would you do it? In this video, I show you the best (and easiest) way to send personalized emails in gmail FOR FREE!
When I was in the sales team, I used to need to send mass communication emails to all my clients (I had over 200 of them to manage a quarter). Generic mass emails missed a personal touch so I decided to send customized and personalized emails by using a free Mail Merge script in Google Sheets.
This mail merge script created by Martin Hawksey connects a Google Sheet spreadsheet to your Gmail account and allows you to send customized emails in bulk!

This video is very helpful. The Mail Merge will come in very handy, when I'm organizing fundraising events for our local Museum; communicating event details to participants, and other team members. Also the mail merge would be used in my small business to communicate promotions, events, and special offers. Thank you for the fantastic video. I went to a conference and wanted to send a follow-up email to everyone I connected with. The conference had an app for everyone to exchange emails. I exported the list and added them to the Mail Merge spreadsheet. I followed your directions, and everything came together fine. I'm sure I saved a ton a time and the mail merge made it seem like a personalized email. Thanks again for your tutorial. You're saving lives out here, lol!

It was interesting to see how excel could be used to do bulk emails :o At my internship, I see Access being used to automatically generate emails though which blew my mind when I first saw it 😂

I guess I like it? It just feels comforting since I’ve been using Office 365 throughout college 😂
They actually also use quite a few other ERP softwares which can get confusing, really makes me wish things were more streamlined. First thing I realized after starting this internship is the fact that you won’t always see the textbook example of a centralized system irl 😔 It would either be too complicated to implement or the costs of implementing outweighs the benefits and time savings. Have you come across a similar situation during your time at EY, Jeff?
@@Andrea_Dong Haha yes we ran into similar issues while consulting for clients but it really depended on what the client wanted. If they wanted to pick 1 ERP system and stick with it, we'd find the best solution (or as close as possible) based on their needs and implement. And they would make a top-down decision to change their ways of doing things (i.e. the top boss would say this change is going to happen)
Interesting, so top-down is the dominant approach? :o in your opinion, would you say top-down is the best approach to system design/development or would bottom-up actually be more effective?
I’m kinda conflicted on this topic since on one hand you wouldn’t want to stray too far from the overarching goal for a system (top-down) but on the other hand it could be more efficient if it suited the needs of the people who’ll actually be using it (bottom-up) 🤔 what are your thoughts on this?

Great video Jeff. But do you have a tip for sending out customized pdfs attached to each specific mail? For example invoices or coupons?
Hm...that's a bit more advanced but I think it's do-able with a more advanced Script 😂
You can do that with Google apps script

So every time I sent out a mail merge, everything went well, except of the {{First Name}} integration. For some reason, it stays blank, whatever I do..

Its because you need to check your capitalisation in the spreadsheet. It's actually {{First name}} (lower case n)

@@JeffSu I followed the instructions. Only the recipient and email sent format worked, every other thing doesn't. In the Apps script, it only shows that the Recipient and Email Sent col was included. So in the end, only the emails are personalized, the body of the mail doesn't work. Could you look into this.

Thank you! I am using Google contacts by saving importing their email. My last try was for 350 persons. Once their email was imported and set specific label, i just use it by typing the label in the TO select the label and all the emails are inserted. I will try this tip as you suggested, thanks. This is very helpful. Not new to sending emails, but new to sending them this way with mail merge. I'm currently using this to promote events and workshops within my business.

@@JeffSu I sent my first round of emails. I got the email date when it was sent (the time showed on a few of them). I sent a test one to myself and my friend (she loved it). I got some emails kicked back or undeliverable I think these emails were fake or they have changed Overall great experience. I will continue to use this as my email list grows. Thanks again.
