Privacy is now completely detrimental, as technology has greatly shifted to such an extent that privacy isn't failsafe, it's _fail deadly_ when you actually think about it with our current technology. I mean, come on, we've got things like _memetic weapons_ and the ability to rapidly prototype and manufacture bioweapons (and we're not saying 'people killer' here, we're talking the _real_ fun stuff like 'Bionome crashers', i.e. something that kills off a handful of keystone species and let the biome collapse that way) now, compared to how the former was basically impossible and the latter took _decades_ to manufacture a viable bioweapon. Add to that the fact that you can make people (or, if you're so inclined, _ethnic groups_ if you're particularly tribal) into disease carriers among other 'fun' things...
