I really love how it feels like we're hanging out and you get to talk about your camera adventure, and also showing the """"bad photos"""" from it is wonderful. Even if they're "bad" in terms of effort put into developing them and not being accustomed to the camera's finicky parts they still as I'd like to say "have something" and they get a little like a hazy and worn memory, and despite the weather being gray the colour pics came out rich. Like how you see the colour of a rock better when it's wet.

I love the description of the wet rock!! I have so many more of these rainy day photos aside from the ones I shared in the final cut. But I will say that I owe the vibrant colors and saturation to Kodak UltraMax. 😁👌🏾

Great video! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about having a Nikonos as a rainy day camera 😂 I have a 2 and a 5, the 5 is so much easier to use (especially in regards to loading and rewinding the film) but I like the feel of the 2. They have some serious issues that make them difficult to be street photography cameras, but they are versatile enough to at least keep a spot in my camera bag for any adventures.

Everyone seems to like the blurry photos more than the sharp ones. I didn't really include my sharper photos in the end because they we're interesting. I enjoyed the softer photos. They were better composed. Thanks so much for your support!

My first camera, purchased in 1969 soon after being certified to SCUBA dive in a flooded Chicago rock quarry, was a Nikonos II which I got with the 35mm lens so I could use it above and below water. Not able to afford the Nikon flash bulb gun I sent the camera to Ikelite in Florida to have it modified to use their flash cube, which was held out in the non camera hand at the end of a coiled cord.
I remember taking my first photos with it on dive trip to Devils Lake in Wisconsin because it was the same day Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. I also used it for my first paying photojournalism assignments in college and for white water kayaking and motorcycle trips. I still have it in my collection.
In retrospect the lack of any metering was a very good start in photography because it forced me to understand how to read the light and how its character and exposure change under different atmospheric conditions. That in turn helped when learning to make B&W prints, where the paper grade used varied with negative highlight density, which also varied with atmospheric conditions.
Another great waterproof camera bought I in 1997 for a trip to the Philippines because I didn’t want to bring my Nikon SLR and lenses in the Pentax 90-WR. It is 35mm “point and shoot” with a tack sharp 3x zoom lens and auto exposure which was better than my Nikon, but also the option to used manual control. It also has a small detachable IR remote trigger which was great for selfies - nobody had thought to invent the selfie stick yet. 😂

I've had the chance to use a Nikonos III, a super fun camera to work with, and I came up with a trick on how to get better images out of the Underwater "Wet-Lenses." Stop the lens down, shooting between f/8 and f/22 (or your highest aperture). Then adjust the focusing knob so that your depth of field covers the frame (there is a handy set of arrows that show what your depth will be). But you know, I really enjoyed what you created here! As for my rainy-day film camera, that's either my Nikon F5 or Minolta Maxxum 9 for my autofocus kit or my FE2 for manual focus.

The o-rings are not easy to find, but they are out there. Your camera has an accessory lever, which some folks say is not great for the longevity of the camera. There are two amphibious lenses, the rest are just for underwater.

    • @LBCRPhotography

Back in my film only days, I decided to use an inexpensive Nikon EM during the times when I did not want to shoot my higher priced Nikon F2 cameras in the rain. However, the first time I used my EM to shoot a soccer game, the EM worked for about 15 minutes in the rain and then stopped working. I just throw caution to the wind and let my camera get wet. Not soaked. I do attempt to make some effort to keep it dry. But I’ve soaked my Canon digital and my trusty old mechanical k1000 just lives in my truck where it’s bashed around and subjected to plenty of abuse. It’s 40 years, kinda crusty and never lets me down. The absolute simplicity of the Pentax K1000 and some Ilford b&w film makes shooting a fun experience. The Canon digital is just kinda… meh
