GREAT video my friend !! Just know that for anyone who gives you grief over your 'non-normal' life style and parental choices, there are many, many other brothers and sisters who have been there and have your back. I have been a professional musician my entire life - I feel confident that I have heard every negative, snide remark and seen every disapproving look that has been thrown your way. The relationship you have with your child or children is between you and them. The love between a parent and child is the final truth that is only truly known between them. I am very proud of my children (young adults now), and our relationship could not be stronger. Forget about the haters that are jealous of you for living your dreams daily, and cherish the unique experiences that few get to enjoy with their families. Cheers !!!

Thank you Randy! It’s a wonderful community to be a part of and I’m happy to return the favor of having others’ backs!
We have a great relationship with him, and you’re right, that’s all that matters in the end!

You're providing a good life for your son. Many crew on cruise ships have to leave their families behind. My mother was a performer and was on the road much of the time. I stayed with family and friends and truly never resented it or felt deprived in any way. In fact, I think it helped me develop resilience and independence. You're doing a great job as a father.

Thank you! He’s an amazing boy. We are very proud of him and he’s been so incredibly supportive. He’s loved beyond measure and he knows that, how can we possibly be doing it wrong?

  • @givrcanadianrocktributeban6965

You inspire me you two🎉. Working hard to support your family, and making sacrifices like being away for periods of time
that is extremely noble. Super good pops- I am proud of you. It sounds like there are others who are proud too- but the biggest fan of you sure looks like it’s your boy. That’s the only one who matters in the end isn’t it❀
You are so smart doing this channel. I think people love seeing, like me, the world through the eyes of folks like you who are living their dream to play live music. I’ve gotten tons great info from y’all.
I’m 55 and retired from nursing. I put my music career on to part time status for several years- it’s tough making a living playing live- but you are living proof it can be done. You have inspired me, like I said. I am working on pushing myself to what I want to do. Even a solo act. I just wanted you to know these videos have helped inspire my new life.
Cruise ship musician life looks like a great way to do it. Lots of personal friends have told me it’s a great way to work on your chops , get paid well/steady, and live the sweet life.
Perhaps I’ll send you some questions about how to get the gig, and things like having family members join you on the sea road sometimesđŸ˜Šâ€
    Cheers

Thank you! He is the best! He has always loved our music and being involved and around it. It’s been a beautiful way to share our lives together.
This channel is also a great way for us to be able to share all our stories on the sea with him. I’m so happy that the content has found a bit of an audience out here in the CZcams community as well!
Music is something that we can’t just put away. Find your stages, find your outlets, and give em hell!

I am a military brat and, due to deployment and unaccompanied tours, separations were a part of life. I see nothing wrong with what you are doing. Keep doing you!

Thank you! Thank you for sharing your perspective on this!
I understand that there’s a bit of an adjustment from the typical expectations that has to happen for him and others who are part of our lives, but he has taken everything so well. He’s a happy, healthy, well-adjusted, empathetic kid. We couldn’t be more proud of him.

You and Steph are working hard to support a family and that's admirable and the fact that your son seems to enjoy himself and speak to you whenever he wants is great plus having a supportive family is so important. Look, in my early career as a young doctor with a child I was working 60-80 hours a week and if lucky saw my daughter on my days off which at the time were rare so our time together was short despite me living at home with her. BTW we are going on an NCL from Athens in sept, any chance you guys will be on that ship?

Thank you so much for always being so supportive of us! We love seeing your comments come in.
Your sacrifices gave you the ability to provide a wonderful life for your family and it’s the kind of choice that I think MOST people understand and respect.
We haven’t quite solidified our next contract, but it’s very unlikely to be on NCL.

Those of us who have been watching you, know how much you both love your son. We know he is being taken care of very well by his Mother. We know it is hard to make ends meet for most musicians, and the fact that you have been able to thrive and make it a career speaks volumes to your commitment to your son. We will ignore the haters, and we will keep enjoying your videos. Not too many people complain what a Navy sailor is gone for 6+ months, there is no difference.

Most of the crew on the ship (and every ship) has a family back home that they can't see for months at a time too. It's been like that since ships were invented.
People trying to attack you for making hard choices in order to make a living don't get to have a say in your life.

So true. It’s funny how this seems like such a crazy and novel idea, but it’s not new at all. Context is everything.
