  • Kubota B2601 compact tractor. Snowblower. Do you need a front mount snowblower? Watch This!
    Beautiful day to clear the snow through the forest. But today, I only engage the Kubota B2782B front mount snowblower on my Kubota B2601 compact tractor - from the cottage right through to the road.
    Join me for the views and to see how effective the blower is at removing large volumes of snow, here in the outdoors, at the cottage. Cheers!

    Greetings Folks, Lee here, my driveway is about 300 feet long and my elderly neighbour's is about 100 feet long . I had a rear blower and by the time I finished doing both driveways I was hurting. Last year Gord did a comparison of the rear and front blowers and after watching that video I was sold on the front blower, costs more than the rear one, BUT, I now walk away when finished with NO PAIN, the first time I used the front blower as far as I'm concerned the cost difference was covered. Thanks, Later

      Good evening Lee! Thanks for the kind insights. Very true, I found last year. On smaller driveways, a rear blower can assist a lot but as I have aged a little more, trying to twist backwards for long periods is pretty difficult. Thanks for sharing your experience. Happy you are back to enjoying getting out to have a little fun and it's really wonderful to hear you are helping out your neighbour too! There's always room for kindness and it is heartwarming to hear you are helping out others too. That's pretty awesome! My hat's off to you, kind sir! All the best Lee!

    As with anything a person buys, it's worth it if you can afford it. Did I absolutely need a L2501 with all the attachments my heart desired, probably not, but I wanted it and it's made chores around my 10 acres like plowing snow, cutting firewood, maintaining food plot and trails much easier and much more fun. If you can afford a front mount snowblower, I'm about %100 sure your not going to regret it😉

      Good evening and thanks Nick! It sure does make life a lot easier, especially as the old body starts to ache a little over time. LOL! You do the best with what you have, but if you can manage the extras, over time, then it sure makes it so much easier to get chores and projects and regular maintenance done (and I have to admit, it's often kind of fun!). Have a good one!

    GP, your an artist with the camara. You always catch the best shots and the best angles. I thought that was awesome in the beginning we saw the front PTO running and bringing the snow blower up to speed and how it smoothed out as the speed was getting higher. That is a pretty smooth running machine. Enjoy your week GP. Cheers.

    So I'm curious. It does a sweet job picking it up and throwing it away from the roadbed. I always figured you would always try and scrape it down to the gravel. But I guess you really need to leave a thin coat of packed snow so you don't inadvertently pick up gravel with the blower eh? And seems pretty awesome to have the blower on front and dragging the blade behind to collect any extra and pile it up for the return pass eh? SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET vid! Soooo glad you posted this.

    the real question is do you need a cab? The answer is yes. The ultimate setup, in my opinion, is a Kubota l6060 with the cab, heat, BlueTooth radio, suspension seat, wipers, front snowblower, and a rear blade. I could plow all day if only i had $60,000 to spend on that haha

    Gordon,
    Beautiful scenery. So nice to have a fresh, peaceful snowfall.
    A couple of observations;
    You need a cab. I think if everyone who is a regular of your channel would throw in $10, we could get it done. Can't have you getting a pneumonia!
    Secondly, your GoPro cameras emailed me, and they wanted me to let you know they are getting very, very nervous!
    Great camera work. Stay warm.
    ATB,
    Michael

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      LOL Michael! That is too funny. I would be nervous if I were them too. That's a very kind thought - I bundle up nice and warm. I think at some point in the future I might get a cab or perhaps one that can come off and on. Trouble is I spend most of the time in the forest and I don't stay on the trails - I go right in there quite often so it helps to be narrow and nimble between the trees and branches. One day though. Thanks! Have a great weekend!

    • @dukebeach1
      @dukebeach1 Před 4 lety +1

      @@GPOutdoors You're right Gordon. I actually don't think I would want a cab. Takes away the feeling of the outdoors and becomes a visual impairment. I agree with another comment that maybe a removable canopy would suffice. I know you Canadians aren't afraid of cold weather, that's for certain. Keep moving that snow. You're blower is a very effective machine. Thank God for hydraulics and PTO's! Be well.

    Great opening shot GP! What a fantastic day to be out blowing snow. My favorite winter days are sunny, cold and wind free. To answer your question, it depends! On many factors. But videos like this help people decide. For me I like the plow, a big part of that is being able to easily change between the plow and bucket, which can be useful for moving snow too. Once the blower is on, it is on for the winter. Cheers!!

      @GPOutdoors  Před 4 lety +1

      Good evening Mike! Thanks for sharing some great points for folks to consider. If I had somewhere to push the snow, I would have got a from plow blade for sure. But hey, nowhere here to push it. So kind of always comes back to the terrain or property someone has to best determine the right equipment for them. Thanks again. Hope you are still getting to enjoy that tasty brew you fermented. Cheers - be safe and well Mike!

    When it comes to clearing large volumes of snow, there is no better tool for the job then a snowblower. It may not be as fast as a snow plow, but you'll only have to do the job once when you run out of space to stack the snow.

    Definitely need that blower! You'd eventually run out of places to push it over with a blade or out of traction to move it. We used a rear blade for years and broke it several times trying to horse back piles that accumulated and that had to be moved. Excess traction and 45 hp can be a bad thing rarely....
    I have actually seen front blowers even have major issues when the snowfall hits 3+ feet or it really drifts. You can't lift them as high as a rear blower to take a big top bite.

      Good day Denis! It is a decision that neds some thought for sure.The from blower is far more expensive than a plow blade or rear blower. So it kind of hinges on what our driveway is like. If I had room to push large amounts of snow , I would have saved some money and got a plow blade for the front FEL. But long driveway, and nowhere to push snow, and winters here bring large volumes of snow. So for me, it was a must-have for sure. Hope you are doing well. Enjoy the rest of the week!

    Hello Gord, nice vid again, I imagine you know that using a snowblower on a tractor is the most hard thing for the motor, it stay fully load all the time, I think you give a chance to your motor sometimes. My brother use to have to clear the snow just beside the exit of a highway and he burned 3 motors in 6 winters, very often the banks were up to 6 feet high and he had to use his front bucket very often, unfortunatly he died last year but not his last motor, 21st of January 2019 he past away at 71. So have a nice day and take care Gord. Now my 3130 Kubota is in the garage with the front loader but no snowblower in the back, I give the snow contract to a friend beside with a 10 feet plow on a loader and I'm using the Kubota to clear some little corners and front of garages doors and sidewalk. Cheers.

    Mixed feelings abt front vs. rear mounted sb. Maybe it's my truck & RV driving skills or maybe I'm only justifying my rear-mount purchase but, using mirrors while perched in my heated cab, I rarely 'do the twist'. Then again, we've only needed it 3 times in 6 years. All other snow pushing work is done with the FEL-mounted snow blade. Works for me but YMMV ;^)

    I have this exact setup (front blower, rear blade) here in Montana, and this is what Ive learned. I clear 1000 feet of double-wide driveway and an open area that is about 200x100 feet adjacent to workshops, parking and house. Pushing that much snow to the edges of driveway/propery lines leaves you in a snow bunker! In contrast, blowing the snow over an area about 30-40 feet wide to the side eliminates the bunkers and creates snow dunes that look great. Is the cost worth it? YES, but you can certainly save hundreds. The cost of the blower and blade can cause severe sticker shock so here is my humble advice. Unless you have a cab, you probably dont need power chute controls. I have found the chute 'elevation' can stay fixed 90 percent of the time. The hand crank to rotate the chute 'direction' is geared fast and changes by 180 degrees with just a few quick turns. Staying with manual control saved me hundreds of dollars and eliminates a chance for electronic malfunction that is inevitable with switches and actuators and such. I DO enjoy the rear blade but it is a luxury and would probably sell it if I didnt use it in the summer for landscaping. It does help with rear traction weight so ther's that especially on hills, but I found i can get into almost every area around buildings with the blower alone and quickly push out the small "what's left" piles of snow with a shovel. You can also back drag small piles with the blower. The rear blade is a nice luxury at an angle when ya just wanna clear the driveway of several inches real fast and wait until more snow to do a complete job but I found pushing snow into the center and then blowing it is really just an unneeded step for me. Also, if you use the blade to move lotsa snow, you must have chains due to the weight of the snow drag to keep traction or ya just sit n spin and drift out from the rear. (Proper chains are expensive so add that to the cost of using the blade). I also like very much using the blower instead of the blade to clear the parking area because the blade leaves just ice behind while the blower leaves a thin layer of snow that is not slippery to walk on. If you dont have a cab, be ready for snow to blow back on you so invest in waterproof gear. The wind doesnt always cooperare with the direction you are blowing. Use the money you saved not buying chute controls and spend it on a snowmobile suit! And GET THE MIRROR!! I almost backed into an unseen UPS truck that snuck into the driveway. Just ordered one! Thanks GP.

    GP, you haven't ridden a rough ride until you drive a farm tractor from the 20's or 30's with the steel wheels and spades !! LOL. But your chains on concrete would run a good second though...
    I can't believe how the chute position change effects your engine. If you find the engine pulls down under an extremely heavy load though, try letting off the fwd pedal slightly to maintain engine rpm and slow the ground speed. I suggested that before, but didn't clarify in that comment that the fwd/rev pedal can be considered a 'de-accelerator' designed for that express purpose. LOL. I do apologize for sounding like 'that guy' you know....LOL. When you need it most, you'll find the suggestion helpful and it will become second nature.
    Oh... and working in deep mud or snow without chains can be likened to eating chicken noodle soup with a fork !! Take care my friend and stay warm out there in the snow !! Stunning intro, btw.

    Hey Gord. I think I’m a bit west of you. I’m another Tim with a tractor. I’m on a couple acres and our house is a ranch style with a walkout basement. I bought a BX 2380 last summer. Front mount blower and a rear 5 ft. blade on the rear. Also a 54” grass deck and the quick mount bucket. Blower attaches with a quick hitch and is hydraulic except for the chute pitch which is electric. If I need the bucket on it’s about 10 minutes to change over. My neighbour has a Cub Cadet the same size as the Kubota. His blower is rear mounted so he keeps the bucket on all the time. Love the front mount blower. No chains but no problem with 4x4 and turf tires. Bit of a learning curve. I did decapitate a dog the first time I cleared snow. Glad it was just a plastic statue. I do have a block heater and I use a wifi outlet and heat the tractor for about an hour before use. Leave it plugged in all the time and use my phone to turn it on. Absolutely love the tractor and the setup.

    GP you should contact your equipment dealer and see if you could trade in your in-line back blade for a three-way offset back blade , you may have to put a little extra in to the perches but it should be well worth it to be able reach out pass the side of your tractor and widen your road way in the winter ❄️ 🥶 ❄️ ☃️ , in the summertime it would help maintaining the drainage ditch long side of your driveway by being able to reach out past the side of your tracker . Just something to consider ! ! ! Have fun in the snow and try to keep warm

Trying to slide it sideways manually is a bit of a chore, although I haven't needed to do it too often, but it certainly would help and I have not looked into what the exchange might look like. IN the winter, I never like to push the blower into the shoulders too far as I know there might be rocks and wood etc but a blade would do the trick no problem. Thanks! I think I might add that to the list. Have a great week!

    How's she goin'? When I bought my tractor I bought a front mounted snow blower at the same time. The blower worked terrible and was breaking down all the time and it was brand new and built for the tractor and branded with Massey Ferguson. It was so bad I had a technical support technician from Massey Ferguson come to the camp to find out what was wrong. To make a long story short, my dealer took the front blower back and exchanged it for the rear blower I have now. I was happy and he was happy. So having said all that I'm not an advocate of front blowers. BUT!!! That was back on 2007. Your front blower seems to work extremely well. I have seen other front mounted blowers that work very well too, so I don't know if they have been improved or not, but I think they are a good attachment from what I'm seeing now. The main reason I wanted a front one was so I didn't have to be turned around at an awkward body position to use it. Glad your's is working so well and it sure does a nice job!!! Take care!!!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      Hey good evening Murphy. Congrats on the country home and the new tractor. Being in the rurals is pretty great, I think. My thoughts (and just my thoughts): Like many things, you do the best with what you have - always. You always find a way to get things done with what you have. If I had a place to push the snow piles, I would use a front plow blade for sure (much less expensive) or rear blade and front bucket (as I did on a video a few weeks ago before I mounted the blower). Depends on how much snow you get over the winter and what attachments you have access to. And most importantly, I think it is good to prioritize ( as it sounds like you have done) as to what the most important attachments are for your needs over the course of the whole year - not just one season. Cause hey, you might be able to clear snow faster with something different, but if another attachment you need is of more importance then I am sure you are doing great with the bucket. And best of all, I bet you are getting a lot of practice and experience using it and getting the hang of curling and lifting and dumping. So, a coffee in the thermos, warm hat, mitts and coat and all is good, I think. If you are getting it cleared, then two thumbs up! I hope that helps a bit. Stay safe and warm and thanks for the great comment tonight. Cheers!

      Good morning Adam! Great question. There has been lots of discussion on this for a while. I have been using it with and without. However my dealer has cautioned that I should not put chains on all 4 tires , and if i have chains on the rear, it is best to use 2wd only , if possible. However, many others have suggested that it should be ok to use 4wd. I am getting great traction in 2wd and in of course, better with 4wd and the rear chains. I am not experienced enough to say but it might be helpful just to speak with your dealer to get his opinion on it. But so far, I really don't need to use 4wd with the chains - the chains dig really well. Sorry I couldn't be more specific. Good luck though and all the best!

I see others with B2601's and standard L series also complaining about HST whine on Orange Tractor Talk. I think its the nature of the beast. I still wouldn't trade an HST for a gear drive. I used to think the other way when I bought a new JD 4320 back in 2005. It was gear with the shuttle-shift. Probably could have gotten more tractor for the same $30k in a Kubota. Oh well..

However Mike on Grampie's workshop just got some chains he found that look pretty good - diamond pattern with studs and he got them online from a place called chains online (.com) - I think? - somewhere in North Carolina. He said they had really great prices. The chains I have were pretty costly. From what I learned you want to make sure you have the diamond or H pattern for sure if you have R4 tires (so the chain doesn't fall in-between the treads - it should stay over top). Hope that helps! Hey good evening Dany. You might be right but it sure saves the old back from twisting around to look behind me when I think I hear something. LOL. Have a good week out there and be safe!

    Do i need a front mount snowblower? Yup. Let's see. 62. Degenerative disc disease, 2 knee surgeries on the same knee, thunderclap headaches, dizziness. Is that enough? 🤔🤔🤔

      I have many of your ailments due to my service and when I got my BX, someone asked me what would I do with a tractor? What kind of a dumb question is that? I like to incorporate any activity in the yard with the BX. Next on the agenda, is taking the groceries from the car to the house and dumping it through the kitchen window. Not sure if my wife will be good with that. Might have to rethink that one. I'll get back to you on that one!!! LOL

      Good evening my friend. I think that answer is, yes? LOL! Glad you have one. And hopefully a heated cab to go with it. Along with the ailments you listed, you forgot to mention your uncanny sense of humour - also a very important part of you. :)) Cheers!

      @@GPOutdoors gotta have humor. Had a front mount snowblower. Til someone else thought they wanted it more. Now they got, and I don't. I'll be moving into an apartment soon anyways.
