Will It Run?? | ONE Owner 1964 Impala, Sitting since 1983, STUCK ENGINE, Struck By A TORNADO!

  • Its getting harder and harder to find rust free cars, especially when they are true one owner vehicles that have been sitting for more than three decades! This 1964 impala was traded to my friend for some upholstery work, and I was able to buy it from him. Sadly, the car was caught in a tornado and suffered quarter panel damage on the passenger side and a broken windshield. The 283 v8 was locked up, but with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears I was able to free it up. This car will live on for many years and be put back on the road, stay tuned for more updates on this car!
    Thanks for watching!

I had this exact same car when I was in my early 20's. A 64 Impala sport coupe with a 327 4 barrel V8! Loved that car but it rusted out from under me not long after I got it! So I was totally interested when I saw that you had gotten this poor little survivor! Would love to see you bring it back to life with a cleanup and some repair and definitely repair that rear quarter panel! Will keep watching for updates!

I had a 69 Impala with a 327, my first car. What a sweet ride this 64 is. Even with the body damage in the rear and the front windshield damage it's still a sweet ride. I'd pull out the rear quarter damage and replace the the glass. But I wouldn't paint it. I'd preserve the patina with clear coat as much as i could. An excellent pick Ryan.

That one can definitely be brought back. I hope it doesn’t get turned into a lowrider. A good trick for stuck motors is to take out spark plugs and pour in Marvel Mystery Oil in all cylinders; automatic transmission fluid is also good. Let it sit for some time. Most times they loosen right up. As you use it compression will increase too. Sounds like you need a new exhaust system too.

The fender flag emblems kind of evolved during the 62-64 full size Chevys. I may be wrong but I thought the emblems on this car's fenders indicate that it should be a 327 and that the 283 would be the V without the flags. Considering how bad these cars can be, this car is really nice and with the quarter fixed and windshield replaced could be a respectable driver as is. Really enjoyed this episode. Thanks.

Yes it's a 327. At least a valve covers are. And that rectangular space by the aftermarket stickers repop it'll say 327 turbo fire or something like that and they're black and gold. They'll say the horsepower you can run the numbers and figure out which one you have. Of course it's not automatic or power glide so it'll have the hydraulic lifters in it and not the solid lifters which you can tell when it is running it does not have solid lifters in it. Seems like we had to every 20,000 mi adjust to the points after filing them. Just loosen down to hold down both little bit while it's running and adjusted by ear rotating and distributed so slightly. The 283 would say Chevrolet in cursive script on the valve covers that is probably small journal crank 327 which I prefer. It's just in many people preferred large journal 327 cranks. Maybe it's just a year but the air breather looks more like for a 283. Maybe the compression will even out with a few miles and I'm a big fan of Lucas additives. And my day is 64 was king. I always preferred 63 but it has a nut I like to 61 and 62 as well. Glad to see the world's come around to my taste. Still very nice looking car. The place to wind chill they use a quarter like it is and sell the tornado story with the car. I will be emailing you about the 60 four-door Impala I just got side tracked. The sides it's been sitting there for about a long as that 64 was setting. And the rear quarter just adds a little character to it. Doesn't look rusted down below why replace it if you're going to work it out work it out. Or leave it there from the next guy because the paint still original and he can do his own thing with it. Or she can. Thanks for showing us the car

She was looking for one before she retired and could never find one that wasn't junk or 40-50 I. I would like to surprise her now that she's getting older. Thanks for sharing your work and time with us.

Great video but be careful everyone putting too much stress on your shoulders. I am a physical therapist and have seen a lot of torn rotator cuffs doing that kind of stuff. The surgery and recovery is too much pain.

After discovering that the engine wouldn't turn over with the starter, why wouldn't you pull the heads (easy to do on a small block Chevy) and get a more complete view of what you were dealing with? You'd avoid the risk of bending a valve or breaking a ring or a whole host of other issues. Cranking it over like that puts a lot of pressure on the rod bearings that are most likely dry from sitting. Just getting it running doesn't really make it ready to sell on to the next guy or put it back in to service without begging for more problems down the road.

Love the car n video!! But get a PDR specialist out to fi the quarter! The Man of steel based in California will be able to give you some good information on how to take out the dent! As he’s got dents as bad, out!! With hisgrea technique
