1953 Chevy 3100 Truck Sitting on The Plains of South Dakota! Will it Run Again???

  • This 1953 Chevy truck came from Huron, SD where it sat for many years on a local farm. The guy i got it from was in the process of fixing up, but projects come and go and he decided he wanted to put the money elsewhere and sell the truck to someone who can finish it. This truck has a 235 6cyl paired to a 4 speed manual transmission. The truck itself is pretty nice and will be an easy project to put back on the road. Can we get this old truck to fire up again or is it doomed for the junkyard?
    Thanks for watching!

Ryan the best thing with these pre- late 1970's vehicles is the wiring. Even my 1972 SS454 Elcamino is relatively easy. I had a 1955, first series Chevy 1500. It was quite the conversation piece 😂. It got old arguing that it was not a '54 but a '55. I know there are only 2 differences, 1st being the call-out emblems on the sides of the hood were redesigned for '55. 2nd redesign was the use of an open driveshaft, replacing the old fashioned closed driveshaft, or torque tube.
Enjoyed the video Ryan, thanks 😎🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

Engines of the truck's era were so simple to work on. No emissions control of any kind. Just basic hand tools, basic mechanical know how and some patience will keep them purring like a kitten. The good old days.

That carb has a filter in it. disconnect the fuel line and the large nut. Filter is in there. Brass filter which can be cleaned and reused.

I restored a 54 Chevy truck years ago but then they didn't have all the upgrade parts like rack and pinion steering, and better suspension. It ran well but it was geared so low that it would only run around 45 mph. Today I would change the whole drive train and suspension to a modern version. It will be a lot better truck for it.

Hey Ryan, just a heads up. I've had trouble with the distributor housing grounds on these old stove bolts. The housing rotates for the vacuum advance so there's no solid mount. I'll run a separate ground wire. Love seeing the old stuff breathing again. Keep up the good work

That truck from the factory was most likely a six volt positive ground. The cables were probably correct when you started working on it. Please know I am in no way trying to be nasty. I love your videos.

I see the original babbit pounder was swapped out for a high pressure version. I also think the floor shift manual transmission is a nice touch!
