not to sure if anyone can be interested to watch this but why not ...
see Ipswich in the 90's, watch me driving, listening to some tunes , filling up and checking the oil.
for the drive up north.... where was i going!!!
Don’t ask what the rag was for!
no idea… But you can try and guess!
That phone box by the opposite lights at the beginning is where I smoked my first joint 😂😂😂😂
I simply like the old cars, old music and everything old because those were cool and interesting, in my opinion
Same
I was born in 02 but I agree
As well as the tunes and social environments- It’s the innocent Ignorance I miss…
but time to face the disaster-case that we call the human race head on now

No time in history was ever perfect but I'd take 1999 over 2022 any day god I hate the present.

@@phillyleotardo4343 Yeah, those were the days when you drive round town in a Datsun Sunny with pride and no fear :0
Fcking love the music. I'm glad people had the foresight to make these driving videos back in the day. I bet they weren't even thinking "I bet this will be interesting to look back on and see how things have changed since then". They probably just randomly recorded them as a bit of a laugh or for no real reason at all, but here we are, 23 years later, watching them and noticing how much things have changed, especially the cars on the road.
Yeah, not a hud screen or satnav in sight, just a radio with 5 band eq and a tape with some decent tunes. what a time!
Music were far better then compared to the crap existing now and back in the mid 2000s.
@@hk-qn4xl every single generation thinks this. You just stopped looking for music because you're lazy - there is so much good music in 2022 if you actually look for it instead of expecting to be spoonfed it by the radio.
@@urmumsbaps oh stfu. You've seen anyone nostalgic about the 2000s or 2010s? The 90s and every other decade before that had good quality music...everything else after the 90s is pure shit. I turned 18 in 2001 and 20 in 2003..from movies, music and fashion, hands down, the 90s had the most enriching cultural moments in my life. BTW, peep TikTok, most of the zoomers there remixing the hell out of music circa the 90s.
@@urmumsbaps I think he wa talkin about the spoonfed radio jingles. back then we called it radio in the car but we could only play tapes and most fo the gud music came on white label records. yeah, you try getting a 12" vinyl record player wired upin car. too much choice today, more player formats and easily accessable. But generally there still is gud music out there today.
The 90’s was the best time EVER!
yes!! :D
the youth today have nooooo idea how awesome we had it 🤗
Born in 1999, love that era of cars so perfect video! Drove home from uni today, 175 miles in a P-reg mk1 Clio identical to the one passing at 8:19. Mint car, who needs a 21-plate on finance!
I remember the cars being like this. I was in London 4 years later in 2003 and the cars were still like this
@@j_c2225 I live in West Yorkshire and most of the cars around here were also like this in the 2000's. My dad's best mate was still driving about in an early 90's Vauxhall Belmont in 2008/09.
@@j_c2225 2009 was when it changed I noticed
@@Secret19977 I was about to say the same thing. I was at University In Nottingham back in 2009 and distinctly remember noticing a pretty quick drop-off in older cars on the road (presumably because of the scrappage scheme). Flip forward a year or so and remember seeing a Sierra on the road being used as a daily, and thinking it stood out.
@@Secret19977 scrappage scheme, all the older motors got sent to the scrappy unfortunately
Thank you for posting this, 16.30 you are facing my old house, my dad's bmw, sisters prelude, my escort and my other sisters micra, and my brother in laws datsun estate, great memories thank you
I think those cars are still in a queue on Norwich rd!!
I feeling so nostalgic about late 80s, 90s and early 00s, even though I was born in 95… not sure why, but I’m feeling like it was the best era ever…
Déja vu
So nostalgic 😢 I was born in 2004 so i rarely got to see these type of cars. I still see the type of cars you would find in the year 92 or 99 to this day.
I went to Ipswich in 1994, It's surprising to see how everything changed. Such as the pubs and the shops.
This truly gives me good flashbacks of the time.
1999 The peak of the human race.
The Matrix (1999).
Good old days, only 23 years ago but feels a lot older
I love stumbling across videos like this on CZcams! Brings back memories of the 90's
Sad to think the majority of the cars here won’t even exist anymore and would be long gone😪
ik
Pieces of sh1t,good riddance
Plenty of retro cars in donegal
go to france or any other european country
Wow... still looks the same. This was little back to the future trip scene here... back to the 90s lol
Missing those days 😭
even for 1999, that mk1 Nova is getting on a bit. Awesome soundtrack, really sets the scene for a 90s car journey in a Nova.
Ipswich has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years. Very happy to have found your video, I’ve always been interested in what Ipswich was like in the past.
town was so different before 2006. 0_0
i personally love it, aswell as that music.
@@Pfunkpoet I've often walked past where this video begins. The area hasn't changed _that_ much and is still largely recognisable.
@@halfbakedproductions7887yeah I agree. The only thing that has changed are the shops, but all the infrastructure and buildings are the same. That's the shell garage I still fill up with before going on the a14.
Oh man, the only major change between this video and Ipswich today is the price you pay at the pump. Oh and the cars were hell of a lot more interesting back then.
And the radio was way way better!
Starting point from 26 Warwick Rd, Ipswich.
Btw this archive is very great ! That's like to feel a nostalgic moment, even if i never been to Ipswich.
As soon as the music started playing, it made me so happy to hear Hybrid. Then I realised you were playing the album. Thanks for this time capsule!
Sad seeing all the pubs that are no longer there :-(
I was trying to see if I could get a good look at the Grinning Rat's old sign but the quality is too low to make it out. I can't remember exactly when but they switched out the more traditional looking sign for a minimalist look at some point in the last 15 years. Worst mistake they ever made, imo.
I lived in ipswich for 25 years, I moved away 4 years ago.. I left school in 2000
Ipswich really was a great town, nowadays it’s so sad to see what it’s become.
Thank you for this it’s a amazing step back in time
What's happened to it?

I still can’t get over that 1999 is 24 years ago, at first I thought video was much older like beginning of 1980s.
Great music, great drive and great for you to share this video 😊
A lot of people had a rag in their cars back then because the window de-misters just didn’t work 😂
I used to have that album on CD it was called Hybrid something and had a blue face on the cover. I love watching these old videos, it takes me right back.
I did too and it was. I was very young but discovered it through an older relative who was 17 at the time
My home town. Nice to have a trip back in time.
Its strange seeing cars from the 70s, 80s and 90s all on the same road. Makes it look strange seeing a mk2 clio and mk1 yaris going about next to boxy old cars. Although i know the video says its 1999 but I spotted a mk1 audi TT @4:33 which i thought they were sold in the uk in 2000 on a W reg. It even has the rear spoiler which the early cars didn't have.
Yes love seeing what cars were about in certain periods of time. This is the period where you still saw lots of ford sierras and escorts but also mk1 mondeos and i guess this would be the first year the focus would be on the rd. Still lots of 80s cars going about
@@easydrive3662I'm sure that the focus arrived in 1998
Left Ipswich in 2000 and not been back since. Exactly as I remembered it. Even got the purple shop
Amazing, this is great. Thanks for uploading.
Excellent video, my sister is now living in Ipswich so a lot of these roads are familiar. I bloody hate the double roundabout at 7:15.
It hasn't really changed as much as I was expecting, to be honest. It's all still very recognisable.
Fastforward to 2022 and I'm still listening to Wider Angle by Hybrid. Banger.
It has degraded over the years - everywhere has.
@@james_-zx2be It's extremely rundown now. Do you remember the fancy lift in Tower Ramparts?
Its amazing how in the 24years the cars we see on the roads have changed so much to whats in this video. literally every motor and model you see in the video pretty much gone. In the vid also a few remaining cars from the 80s, today we see just a few cars from the 90s! Scary!
Awesome vid. Thanks for introducing me to Hybrid :)
Thanks for showing this.
The Esso petrol station at 8:58, where the cyclist is going past, is now a Nissan dealership.
I was born in 2002, and I can only ever remember it as a glyn hopkins😂
I would have been 10! Lovely video!!
Wish I can go back in to the past and see my younger self. This would be remind me of Back to the future lol
I like the old Scania trucks driving I recognize them as a lad, the Boxy ones are 3 Series Scania 113 or 143 and the 4 Series they like new here Scania 114-124-144, also ERF Trucks driving, miss seeing those trucks too much!
Thanks to this video I now know of the track "I know" by Hybrid 🥰 I'm 24 Years late hearing it but love it. Bet you never thought this video would effect someone 24 years in the future like that.
Wow this was a huge flashback of the 90s.
Ipswich, Cradle of filth album "Cruelty and the beast" just came out, a band from this city, and in a year the world will tremble from the release of "Midian", oh how long ago it was.
That's right, cradle of filth made this town famous
I may have not lived in the 90s but i've listen to hybrid for a few years now, really cool to see a 1999 video with hybrid playing in the background.
I live near Ashcroft Road and kept wondering if I was there walking around. I was only 9 or 10 back then. I would have loved to have seen my younger self.
Lol, always roadworks on Norwich Road. Great vid.
2021: Nothing Changed
From 18:01 onwards the A14 dual carriageway trunk road heading westbound is joined at junction 53, and is travelled along for the rest of this video. However, back then the A14 didn't have any numbered junctions for the whole of its length.
Love the CZcams time machine. Amazing. Memories.
Please finish your work it’s brilliant 👊🏻😎 love those tunes too
Looks like the roads were in better condition back then compared to the amount of potholes everywhere today
I just came back from college in Ipswich and found this video only to find it was covering exactly the same route that I took
Hybird, Wide Angel, great album
Ha! I recognise that house and remember who was living there back in 1999. :D
Not much changed on Norwich Road but glad I left in my early twenties (1980). What once a town of industry is now a town of ? well sweet FA.
Norwich road Petrol at the esso 75.9. Not bad I might pop over there in a min
I worked for photocopying and litho supplies on St Helens street back then!. I reckon that was me in the silver Peugeot 406 at the junction just before the dove pub at the start of the video 😄
So much nostalgia for a time when I wasn’t even alive
God I feel old reading this.
@@1992jamo apologies
It’s now ipshit,,, great video though mate bring back good memories, I had a Ford capri 2,0s then 👌
When cars were great and different from.each other. Now days they all are the same there still are some from 1999 as those cars back then were new so today even those are 20 years old or near. But life was better then and cars were good compared to today's shit on roads..
Definitely. For me I suppose it's not so much what I see today that's the issue. But just that I see a very few range of colours and styles (headlights etc)
Enjoyed watching your video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it

Great vid wife and just watched it you so need to finish it it was a brilliant idea 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 we from kings Lynn and have family that way so cool to see from back then
It's weird, I don't remember 1999 cars looking so old. This looks like how I remember 1992
Left Ipswich in Early 2000 and went back for a warehouse operative Job in Late 2019 and honestly its changed a lot I don't remember much of how it looked but the fuel prices and that block of flats I also remember fun fact i smoked my first cigarette 🤣 there aside from that i also remember the fuel prices they were alot cheaper than today if I'm correct it was about 70 something p or lower I think so if you could get fuel you were lucky but seeing this 25 years later brings back memories it feels like yesterday but has changed alot nowadays fuel prices are just a Joke... I wish we could go back
Born in ipswich 89 still living here 🥰
man this is sick! need to know what you’re driving?
I reckon the rag was for demisting the windows. Were you driving an automatic Vauxhall Nova?
Some of the roadworks are still there! 🤣
cool music ,where you listening to radio or cassette or CD or what
Thanks, no need to go there now.
I enjoy looking at all the old variety of cars but i don't see any Rover mini coopers from that period didn't spot a single one in this footage. 2000 was when they stopped making them.
Or Rovers in general. I spotted a Mk 1 800, 200, 600 & a 45. Shows the company was already not selling well even in 1999.
LOL at 0:33 now was it check mirror first then drive or drive first then check mirror ? Nice intro and 90's rave classics! reminds me of a video to a rave tune.
BIG BEAT/BREAK BEAT....
The camara quality looks amazing for 1999
In my opinion it looks about as 1999 as you can get lol
Because it was cassette and not digital. It was converted later.
The best vídeo for me is Smack my bitch up By Prodigy in POV 1997...remember The vídeo clip 20:38....
All the old motors on the roads how times have changed
Lol as someone who was born in 88 these cars don't even look old to me 🤣
Certainly a better time then these days.
The starting point is 26 Warwick Road and the ending point is somewhere just north of Ipswich on A14
Where's the next couple of minutes? I wanted to show someone what that stretch of A14 used to look like!
Petrol prices were cheap back then!
70 odd pence....stop Lewis youre gonna make me cry.
It literally looks identical to now, but less run down and has old cars.
Ipswich has not changed what so ever in the last 20 years😂
Ipswich is just a dormitory...the marina could have been wonderful...I looked for it it didn’t exist.....what were the planners thinking of...I can’t think of a reason a tourist would want to go there..
What car are you driving out of interest? It must have been a few years old at the time looking at the manual tuning radio.
8:01 minute - it was around '99 my mate Ezra from Portman road, challenged Michael Wong to a "tekwoon" i was ezras second - it was a sunday morning and a metting had been arranged. we met master michael in the back yard.. he explained hard and soft school to us.. then the MOST huge black dude emerged to handle the challenge, ezra, had to put on a fuill face mask - i observed everything. ezra did not win. that day i learnt the importance of "lieutenants" in martial arts schools. today i ereside on the Isle of wight, and still keep training occasionally supplementing a "ki Ai" with " BLU ARMY" doing well lads! - ps CHOON : Hybrid..lyric : I Know!
