  • I'm a sucker for anything grimy, cold, and ragged. Gloom Trench hits all those buttons as hard as it can, and with the upcoming Russian Empire releases planned through Kickstarter, that's another project on the growing list!
    Remember that even if you don't have a 3D printer, Fickle Dice has licensed printers worldwide who'll be able to ship physical copies once the Kickstarter is complete - and who can already send out miniatures from the British Empire range as well!
    Find the Fickle Dice site with links, printers and rules here: fickledice.com/

    Just wanted to say that this really inspired me to revisit my not-Krieg kill team. While I don't have these minis, the not-Kriegs were already somewhat trench-y courtesy of a Stirland Mud base, so grabbing some Valhallan Blizzard, stippling down with an old brush, and crusting parts of their coat with the remainders really added some fun dynamism that I felt they were missing. Also grabbed some Aardcoat and worked the edges of the snow and surrounding dirt/fabric to give a half-melted look. Turns out really well!
    Actually, having experimented as a result, I can confirm that if anyone wants a good Rasputina look on their vehicles: grab your browns, oranges, and rusts for the tracks, drybrush with some silver, and experiment layering Stirland, Valhallan, Aardcoat, and some brown washes in layers. Worked well!
    Tangent post? Yes. But the experimenting was inspired by what I saw here!

      You really should! I can't get over just how matt it dries. It's got such a nice finish. I'm going to pick up a couple of the other new Game Color washes to see if they all perform like that.

    They look brilliant! I'll have to try that new Umber Wash from Game color, the previous version was terrible from my POV, very watery.

    Its a fair job now - it has to be said what with your dap, dot and smear painting style!!! Good job especially that new wash by Vallejo - that looks like it needs purchased asap to give it a try!

    One of the things that I love about this channel is that I get either ideas (Ork Kommandos, elven warriors, Iron Hands) or... can see some of the paints that I'd like to use some day in action :D. Also the printed miniatures look so much better than the renders of the current stuff on MMF

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před rokem +1

      It's one of the things that's always difficult about seeing a render. They just don't have quite the same presence as even a plain primed print does. Faces are the real kicker on a lot of sculpted miniatures; they'll look terrible in a render, and then you paint them... oh there's the detail! 😅

    More than army's regulars these seems more a post-apocaliptic bunch, also the premise seems a little too far stretched, Russia in WWI was in less than 3 yrs literally bankrupt(either morally and economically). Naturally these minis could pass for some warlord's troops, as those that tried to gain power after tzar's fall, in a messier scenario than the original(if possible!).
    P.s. beautiful job, as the usual.

    Oddly small feet on them though 🤔

    • @gavinm894
      @gavinm894 Před rokem +1

      Just measured, the feet are actually a little too large. Feet length to height ratio is 6.6:1
      These feet are 5mm long, so that would be right for a 33mm model. These are 28mm so the feet are about 1mm too long. 🤣
