Hobby Time: Gloom Trench 1926 British Empire & Winter Basing

- The Great War. The 'War to End All Wars.' World War One. Not ordinarily something you'd think of as needing to be even more desperately dangerous and grim, but if you're going to do it, why not do it with some style? Gloom Trench 1926 delivers in spades. The rules are in open testing right now and available for free from the Fickle Dice Games website, which you can find here: fickledice.com...
Check out the entire range of miniatures with both STLs and physical prints available via MyMiniFactory: www.myminifact...
As interesting as the rules are (and believe me, there's some very cool ideas in there) I know that Gloom Trench is something my local gaming opponents would bounce off of pretty hard. But there's so many things you could use these figures for it's unreal. There's a shiny new Astra Militarum Codex on the horizon where you pick and choose rules to suit your collection of miniatures, for a start. There's Stargrave, or Five Parsecs From Home which need gnarled, battered pirate types as bad guys. Forbidden Psalm: The Last War leans into a similar battered, broken and tired aesthetic. Sludge. Turnip28. The list goes on. "But I don't play that game!" Luckily, your miniatures won't know that!

Those miniatures are super cool. That dude would be just as ready to do a raid on Endor as to infiltrate the cult stronghold and retrieve an ancient tome that may help against the tide of otherworldly entities.
The war never ends how long has it been now memory fades as the green gas flows in again .
I love these videos you do of human soldiers, sci-fi and fantasy, that aren't necessarily 40k. They've encouraged me to venture outside of the Warhammer comfort zone. 😄
Thanks for showing the snow basing! Goes nicely with the freezing rain and ice we are getting today.
The snow effect on the clothing turned out really well.
Nice - Often there’s not enough snow in the postapocalypse
Those snow effects on the clothes look really great. I've never thought to use Valhallan Blizzard that way.
It takes a bit of practice to get a feel for how much is actually going to show up, since the translucent white medium it's bound in will make you think you're applying way too much, but once you've got your eye in it can be super useful.
This paint job really boosts these minis.
Cheers! It's funny, because I'd honestly say it's really the miniatures elevating the paint job. 😅
This is exactly the tutorial I need for my Cadians. Thank you!
Loving this, thanks so much! I'd love to see you do more of these models!
Thank you , Troy .
Nice mini's .
🐺
Those are looking great! They'd work nicely for The Last War.
If you're having issues removing supports without damaging the minis, I'd try putting the prints into hot water for a few seconds before pulling the supports off. This made everything so much easier for me.
The hot water trick worked perfectly for these guys! There were just a couple of minor scuffs left on the cloaks which I had to smooth out, but otherwise you could pull the supports free and get to curing and painting immediately.
There is a mini expansion for last war that was a co-lab between FDG and the guys behind The Last War, set in the LW universe using the Gloom Trench miniatures. It's called A Gloomy Day.
Wow they look awesome Merry Christmas to you and your family . Also hi from Hawks Bay New Zealand 👍🏻
Love me some weird war 2, didnt know there was a great weird war setting :o
These look like an excellent opposing force to the Station Forge German inspired Grim Guard trench guys.
Oooh, that's a great suggestion.
This is great, I feel like a lot of people overdo snow effects, so I appreciate you giving a guide showing it collecting and falling where it naturally should.
“The job’s a Good’un!” Listen up y’all. This is my pick for phrase of the year.
Absolutely brilliant vid, I can't believe how amazing our models look when in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing with a paintbrush!!!
Thank you so much for an awesome video!
Many thanks!
Thank you so much! I have been looking everywhere for a sci-fi/historical fiction setting miniatures! I'm che them out now
Wow, they turned out great! Those minis are really cool. I just recently picked up Forbidden Psalm: The Last War (uses the same rules as Forbidden Psalm which is a miniatures take on Mork Borg RPG) and it's a quirky, grimdark, post apocalyptic version of WWI where everything has come to an end. Those minis would work great as a group of soldiers scavenging the abandoned trenches for supplies.

@@gavinm894 Nice! I'll have to check that out.
Really cool video.
The sculpts are very interesting and the finish looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing this.
These look incredible. Love the snow effect too. One thing I often do with snow bases is dab some agrax earthshade on the stirland mud and the very edges of the Valhallan blizzard whilst it's still wet. Looks like mud soaking into the snow
Ooo, good call. I'll have to give that a shot next time!
Really enjoyed this thank you! The British are next on my list as I am currently tackling the Germans! Looking forward to seeing what else you do for this great and interesting line of miniatures. Cheers and Merry Christmas!
Pretty cool minis. I never would have thought of Weird WW1, though the end of Gaiman's amazingly lovecraftian "Study in Emerald" does mention the coming outbreak of WW1. I just want to say one more thing: is there any step more satisfying than applying that wash and seeing your paintjob coming together for the first time?
I’m always looking forward to your next video, thanks so much for all the entertainment. And these are such cool miniatures! I love them.
That’s cool, very nice. 🍻🍻🍻
wow these are awesome, these models look fantastic too!
Love them!
I picked up the original KS but I still hadn't been able to print them. Glad they look even better one they are printed.
Are you having trouble getting them printed or just not got round to it yet?
@@gavinm894 no printer myself. I've not had the STLs show in my MMF library but their are links to them in the site messages. I just figured it was the site being weird.
I told the wife I would fix the wiring on the house before I got a 3D printer and my friend with a printer has been focused on getting his house ready for a new baby. I'm just waiting for the new KS at the moment.
Oh god, the last thing I need is yet another hobby project - but man these look so freakin' cool!
Reminds me of a song - Soldier of Heaven by Sabaton. I mostly inspire with music like that when i design a diorama. Highly recommended 😁 great tutorial, as always.
I'll have to check it out! A few people have recommended me Sabaton over the years and I've just never gotten around to listening, so today's the day. ✌
Don’t forget attack of the dead men
These came out great!
Much obliged! They're a lot of fun. :D
They look like they'd be perfect for Forbidden Psalm; Last War too!
Interesting figures, another variant of the backstory could be that, for this experiment gone WRONG, WWI never happened, and the various powers have to fight either creatures and humans from other worlds, think a mix btw Gate and Stargate, with portals open in various parts of the world. The suggestion about Russian Uniform is very useful, I think it could be used on a Stargrave 's mini just arrived 👍
Cool mini and tutorial! I'll have to check out these rules. Maybe I could use my Wargames Atlantic Grognards for it.
M8ty they look fecking coooooool, I might have to get me some of those they look ace.
i've had a pot of valhallan blizzard sitting on my shelf for a couple of years now and used it for the first time on my brothers star wars legion rebels a few weeks back and man do i love the result :D kinda wish i based my army like that too :P i think the white snow would contrast really nicely against inferno squad's all black outfits in star wars legion ;) sounds like a good reason to start another small army... :D great video as usual, love how the soldiers came out! :)
That Valhallan Blizzard stuff is a sleeper hit waiting to happen. Citadel's stuff isn't always the perfect answer, but for snow effects and how easy it is to apply, you can't go wrong with it.
Incredible base models for Trench Crusade, until they release models
Very well done. That snow effect turned out amazing. What tufts did you use for this?
These are Army Painter's highland tufts, I think. It's been a while since they were in the wrapper. 😅 But they're definitely AP branded ones.
Wow very cool...
Great vid really enjoyed this content, did you scale up the prints to 32mm for these miniatures?? I see they are 28mm on their website , I don't have a printer so I'm gonna buy the physical prints, cheers 😁
These guys were printed as is, without rescaling. They're about the same size as the Krieg figures.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio great stuff thanks for letting me know, keep up the great content 😁
Are you using a Wet Pallet
Yup! I quite like having one handy. You can make your own, of course, but something a little more sturdy is nice to have.
Warhammer 1.9K
Dude! I gotta stop watching your channel, it's costing me too much! 😂
Sorry! 😂
