They're testing themselves against their opponents. They've gotten so much stronger that their base power has increased as well.

Vegeta never had the pleasure and satisfaction, to finally defeating his nemesis, the archenemy of his people. "Freeza"... so the victory against his counterpart from the 6th Universe. This is even more satisfying to the prince of all Saiyajins💪

You'd think the reason Goku chose only to go super saiyan was to test out Frost and make the fight more interesting which is part of it, but the other reason was that Frost really wasn't worth the effort. As Vegeta demonstrated just regular super saiyan is more than enough to deal with Frost. Heck, super saiyan may have been overkill as well since Vegeta said he had to pull his punch so he didn't kill Frost by accident!
Yes they can go blue but its just like with a car, yes you can drive it 300kmh but its also gonna drain your fuel like crazy, and they are trying to save some of their energy. Remember, there is still the famous assassin to be beaten :D

It's also strategy as well we pride that they hold back from full power. They don't want to expose their true potential to their future opponents that are watching the fight. Like what Goku said to Fost, accusing him of holding back in order to test the opponent for weaknesses, and admitted he's doing the same thing.
I honestly love the gag of everyone and their grandmother being onto Beerus's paper thin lie about Monaka *except* Goku.

Actually, everyone else thought Monaka was strong too. It was only when Beerus reviewed it later on was when they found out.

Honestly, I'd argue that Vegeta taking out Frost with a single hit is infinately more disrespectfull than if he dissected him as he usually would a weaker opponent. Its him letting everyone know that he doesn't even acknowledge Frost as a *toy* , just a nuisance

Goku and Vegeta are saiyans and what Saiyans want more than anything is a *good* fight, a fight that ends too quickly is not enjoyable to them. It's what separates them from Gohan, Goten and Trunks who only care about getting a fight finished as quickly as possible. They don't enjoy fighting, but Goku and Vegeta love it even if Vegeta will say otherwise.

The stronger the base form gets, the stronger the super Saiyan becomes. Jumping straight to blue and wasting energy when you don’t know who’s next is a recipe for failure
this arc has so many cool moments, but between them there's fights that draaaaaaaaaag.... specifically Botamo and Magetta's.
They are intentionally staying in their base forms to test and train themselves.
There's something to be said for not showing your whole hand in a tournament. The element of surprise can indeed be an asset.
Small story: I once went to one of my city's bigger fighting game events and entered the Mortal Kombat 9 tournament. I was and still am fairly novice in fighting games, but particularly in a tournament setting. Suprisingly, I got a chance to play one of the better known FGC players before the tournament started and actually won the game. So what I just said doesn't add up right? It was some minutes after walking back to my friends when it hit me that he was absolutely letting me pull out all the counterplay I knew, because it was a match with no stakes. If I had been someone who actually went on to face him during the actual bracket (I was not. Pretty much got eliminated out the gate), he would have seen what kind of options I choose to pick in bad situations and could have used that against me.
Could I have been overthinking it? Sure, any number of reasons that could be the way that transpired, but I know that testing your opponent and seeing how they behave in certain situations is a thing pros do to try getting a read on the opponent's habits. Even if that wasn't what I actually experienced, it did remind me that on top of your own strength, technique and strategies, not letting your adversary in on all of the above can also be crucial to victory.

There's a reason why they aren't going blue yet that will be explained later but another reason is because they don't want to reveal everything to their opponents just yet.

I really do not like what the english dub did to Magetta. He is not supposed to sound like a robot.
Magetta is the tipical basic robot that shouldn't even got a chance to win against og db characters, if botamo was useless but they was able to create a even more useless character, imo one of the worst characters in all canon and non canon db history

I like Magetta because he relies on his smarts and fights tactically in a series where power is generally the most important thing, even to its own detriment sometimes. And considering the likes of Majin Buu (who's far 'worse' in the looks department tbh), I wouldn't go around deciding who's useless and who's not based on looks anyway; got to see them go at it first, because that's mainly what matters.
