Hi Luke, I really enjoyed that one. That's quite a kit you got there. I thought it resembled the Bigwig when I saw your Instagram post and to see the entire chassis on your video and the comparison leaves you in no doubt about the inspiration for it. Very Schumacher style shocks with the seal retainers. It certainly rides nicely and loving that articulation. You could take that crawling with a set up like that! ATB Darren 👍

What an amazing build. I think it looks nicer than the BigWig and for you to have the opportunity to build this is great to watch. I think I said this before but #RCElf chose the man for the job on this one 👍🏻

As soon as I saw it I just thought BigWig. Cool buggy though, chassis is like hobby grade but body almost seems like toy grade. Runs awesome! Another great video.
Hi bud, well you would think that a ABS type body was unusual on hobby grade rc but remember in the 80’s Tamiya Subaru brat, Blackfoot, Bruiser, grasshopper and so on all used this type of material. Thanks 😊
@@LukesVintageRC Yeah, I was more thinking of the way it was screwed down, the blacked out canopy etc. Looks so cool when it's running though.

I didn't notice in the beginning that this car is a copy of a Tamiya car, until you mentioned it and shown us.... But geeeez, when you opened the box and if you didn't see the box art, I'd swear it was a Tamiya kit!! They definitley are copying Tamiya with the packing style in the box... But who wasn't copying Tamiya kits in the 1980s and early 90!! I never heard of or seen this car in 1989 or 1990.. But I can damn sure tell its a late 80s early 90s style because Tyco and Tamiya, Nikko was all going to that AERO style of body back then.. Nice build and video!!

Nice buggy. With the metal parts (shocks, shock towers), and telescoping drive shafts, ball bearings would complete it, I think.

I had that car on 1990. Those shock tower and under bumper are made by zinc, so please don't expect reliable durability, it will be easy to bend and break.

Awesome car. Awesome video. I'm not familiar with this brand and initially I thought it was a Tamiya. When you held it up to a Tamiya you could see all the design inspiration it borrowed. Seriously, this thing looks bada**.
I wish you would have spoke more about your impressions of its 4WD capabilities. I've only had a chance to drive a 4WD RC car once (one by HPI) and I was amazed at how well it just "stuck" to the ground. Other than the times where you were stuck with some 3 wheel action, could you tell you were driving a 4WD car?
Hi, first of all thank you for watching. So the driving of the Mirage is kinda an easy feeling as with 4wd it has that pull me along feeling during the drive as the front wheels are working and you sense that. I would recommend checking out some other great videos I’ve done with four wheel drive rc and some with four wheel steering. 1.Royal Ripper, 2. Marui Ninja and recently I’ve done 3. Kyosho Optima Mid. All great with perhaps a bit more input. I had to edit this video as 15 minutes is my usual cut off. I got carried away as this is the first time an Academy Mirage was ever filmed on CZcams. Please like and subscribe. Hit the bell as I produce videos every month of a totally different rc. Great project once again. So what do you with all the rc cars once your done with building and testing? Do you shelve them or sale some of them?
Hi, so firstly thank you for watching. The rc you see I do keep for future competition or comparability or updates to the cars such as upgrades etc. This way I can keep content coming for years. Pretty much a majority of other rc channels do the same thing. If you get rid of the rc then your content will more than likely dry out.
@@LukesVintageRC As many cars and other rc stuff you restored your going to need a warehouse one day to keep them all in. I have trouble keeping about 20 rc items in my apartment....lol.
Quick question, if you wanted to put an independent rear suspension on say…a grasshopper, which rear ended would you put on it?
I can’t remember but I believe I saw something about this online and it was crazy expensive to do. Maybe Google it.
