  • It's time for the channel to shift into NITRO!
    I couldn't resist, this video has been on the cards here at the channel for the last few weeks but we just haven't been able to get the time in-between all of the other awesome content that we have created in X-TRIAL.
    However we feel that this will be the best review of the Vertigo Nitro by far as we even travelled to the factory to get some insight on the bike build itself.
    No one else does that and makes that sort of effort for their subs!
    Find out if we thought this new and exciting machine is the new king of the two stroke bikes in trials. Or just the king full stop.
    This weeks video has been helped along by the guys at Inch Perfect and their incredible venue!
    So grab a beer and get ready because THIS IS TRIAL TUBE!

    Great review Danny thanks! There's a lot of talk in the comments below Danny about 125 and 200 being the great starter through clubman bike. i have a friend here in Oregon who's ridden the Scottish 6 days 11 times and used to race pro motox. Really nice guy who just came off a Montessa Repsol 260 he was on for years and went to an R3 Vertigo 250 that he then kitted up to a 280 with flywheel. (Rode that and it was so sweet :) But here's the thing, i'm that newer rider who used to ride moto 20 years ago (although not very well ;) and i have a '22 Beta Factory 200. Actually took a poll in my trials club of a few bikes when i was looking for my first bike and that came out ahead. So i found one (lucky hard to do) and got it. My friend rode mine the other night at his indoor setup. 24" inch logs, rocks, tighter space. His conclusion "really like this bike, fantastic in this tight space... super easy to balance... but in the river or bigger sections i want the stability of my Vertigo". When i rode his Vertigo i saw what he was saying. And honestly liked the stability and tractor grunt of it rather than the zing of the 200. Don't get me wrong the 200 is nice, but the Vertigo with a bit more engine just felt so solid under me... more inspiring for learning zaps etc i think. I have to learn the engine no matter what i'm on. And you can tame the engine back... gasket, gearing, flywheel, slow turn. But you can't find more power than you start with (i.e. 200 vs Lampkin 280 say). And the handling, i'd like that to stay consistent for a long time (i.e not outgrow the 200 in a year move on to another bike...) and keep getting more solid on the bike i ride. I'm hoping for a multi-year bike... they're spendy and i want it to be my friend like the bmx bike i rode into the ground as a kid. Or am i way off (in more ways than one... hahah :) ? What's your thought on the smaller bike vs moderate bike for learning more obstacle work? Thanks :)

    Thanks for the great review. I was leaning heavily towards the nitro but a hand built bike that cost more than the competition with no grease, shock bolt interface issue and the ecu staying wet, forks need alignment and this are the problems found in only a couple weeks of ownership. Makes me wonder what else may have been overlooked or left loose that will become a problem. If the folks from vertigo are watching we or at least myself need some reassurance that there is a in house investigation and solution as to why bikes are leaving the factory that are not ready to be ridden in a mechanical or safe condition.

      @waynesimpson2074 Před 2 lety +8

      Hi Dallas, you're totally correct when it comes to expected quality especially when you factor in the low volumes and high prices we trials people are paying for our toys. At the risk of sounding like a statement from the Ministry of the Bleedin Obvious; trials bike brand/model selection is an incredibly personal decision making process e.g. I have weighed up all the negative aspects of owning various brands (and they all have there faults) but then, when I put in some peg-time on a demonstrator, the overriding feeling of whether you 'gel' with the bike is paramount, every other consideration is secondary....short version 'its horses for courses' .We're all different and also fortunate to be living in a time of so many manufacturers/options, enjoy yourself it's later than you think?
      P.S. For Danny to point out the Nitro short-comings is very noble and I hope Vertigo digest the feedback.

    • @TrialTube
      @TrialTube  Před 2 lety +2

      @@talesofaclubman ride a smaller CC and use the full Rev range? If you don’t go past quarter throttle you need a smaller CC. Simple.
      Most clubman are “over biked” it’s tough to hear but true.
      My dad used to be one of them and he won beat clubman at the Vic Britain a number of times..
      Since selling his 300 and going back to a 125 and then a 200 he has won the clubman route consistently using the lower CC’s bikes full potential.
      Most “men” buy the bigger bike out of some misjudged belief that bigger is better. Even a sturdy built chap doesn’t need all that power of they don’t understand it. Using a big CC on only quarter the throttle is simply poorly informed purchasing.
      Thanks for the comments 👍

    • @talesofaclubman
      @talesofaclubman Před 2 lety +4

    • @TrialTube
      @TrialTube  Před 2 lety +4

      @@talesofaclubman Sure thing. Most sales in the UK and Europe of new bikes are through clubman purchasing and guys that ride for interest of the sport. That’s just shown on yearly bike sales. As the hundreds of bikes sold every year are not purchased by top flight riders.
      Most of the time top riders don’t even make a dent in keeping the sport alive. (Due to sponsorships and deal etc)
      It’s the clubman enthusiast that is the backbone of new bike sales. Bought out of interest and love for the sport. With most being at a point in their life where they can afford the newer machine that they always wanted. (The pandemics new bike sales have shown that.)
      But it may be different up towards you? I just know the figures and selling trends.
      Each to their own though. 👍

    Not directly nitro related question but do you recomend stiffer suspension springs for riders in the 220 pound range?

    Felt too soft for my body weight.

    Hi Danny, Very accurate review. I collected my Nitro 300 last November. Love the bike. Amazed at the lean 2 sttoke mix 30cc.
    Water on ECU is a pain but it is waterproof (thank God). Needs full clean out/ dry out each ride and a dose of WD40 on the terminals.
    I took out linkage and shock last week to grease. Mine had 'sufficient' grease and was good but gave it a good smathering anyway. All bolts have a green mark leaving factory to confirm they were checked for tightness. Mine was 100% as I checked everything before riding. Agree the dog bones are extremely....extremely close to shock bolt so a spacer is a good suggestion. Did you grease the Head Stock bearing? What are your thoughts on drilling and inserting a grease nipple in the head stock? Thanks again for reviews. Matt

    So the takeaways are it has great power/grunt, gets good traction, good gearbox, smooth compliant bouncy suspension......hmm what else ? the fly wheel weight, some more discussion on this would have been good, at one stage you imply it needs it and in another that maybe it doesnt ?.....................also how is the steering ? turning circle ? tendency to tip in or push the front ? balance ? clutch (drag ?)? brakes ? does the front elevate easily ? (think you implied that)......keen to hear more on how it actually performs compared to your R3 and the other brands eg GasGas etc. I get the pre-delivery was a bit lacking and maybe the ecu area could do with better waterproofing. On that ecu thing, how wet did the electronics on the R3 get ? I've never checked mine so dont know but will have a look next wet/muddy ride............keep hearing great things about the new 225cc 200 bike, sounds like the ultimate Clubman bike

      @@Girraffe_o_ great call! My dads rides the 200 Beta and previously rode the 125 and wins clubman often. The common mistake by the inexperienced is that the bigger Cc’s work better of you are a big guy. Half of them are “over biked” easily. My dad won best clubman at the Vic Britain trial. So I would say he is the description of a clubman and has never rode better since being on a smaller CC

    And then u hope the support on the newer models is better then the older. Although a R1 is only 5 ! ! years old they became a pain to maintain. Vertigo does not support the older electronics anymore. an expensive update is the only solution.
    Besides that they should supply a free service manual.
