Probably the most versatile of the all-female Japanese bands, which is saying a lot as Japanese musicians tend to be quite versatile. And their skills are very sound: there's a rock instrumental gig Saki does periodically most of which shows I've seen live, and one time Saki did it the day after a Nemophila concert, with Hazuki as a guest, and probably because of a lack of rehearsal time both guitarists were having to sight-read fairly complex charts of up-tempo tunes with plenty of chord changes/progressions and harmonies and key and time signature changes, and doing it with ease, plus stretching out on ad lib solos loaded with good ideas and the technique to execute them.

Are you referring to those prog-rock shows she does from time to time at Silver Elephant in Kichijoji? I attended one of those and it was straight fire.

@@DavidKAnderson Yes, they're called "rock Instrumental" shows by drummer Shun Minari (with whom I'm acquainted), who organizes those sessions at Silver Elephant and who played on Saki's solo effort "Brightness". Those shows have been going on for several years and I've seen most of them. One of the more impressive shows was with Mao Yamamoto on synthesizer (he's worked with Lovebites and other bands), who traded solos with Saki-they really went at it. The session I refer to above, with Hazuki, also had Yashiro, who played with Saki in Mary's Blood as support. Hearing those three trade solos was a treat.
Elsewhere I've seen Saki play gigs with a jazz trio, with the Down Dope Squad sessions organized by Yoshi of Aldious, the Guitar Girls sessions Saki has organized at Naon no Yaon and at clubs, and of course the different bands she's been a member of. I've been a fan of Saki since her mixx days, have talked to her a number of times over the years, and something she has consistently said is that she does the sessions to expand her music horizons and particularly her soloing skills, as the solos on the band albums/live shows tend to be short and she can't stretch out.

This very video is what turned me on to all these Japanese female bands. I was checking out cover bands. Found this one. Started watching more of their cover's and their original song's that led me to Band-Maid, then they lead me to Lovebites. Then Wagakki Band. I have seen Band Maid live now 3 times, Nemophila twice, both bands put on great shows.

thank you Joel for helping these bands out Japan tends to be a bit insular but bands like Nemophila, Hanabie, and Lovebites deserve to be heard and promoted out side of Asia as they are insanely talented and you are showing them to people who work within in the industry, I have a feeling that 2024 WILL be Lovebite's big breakthrough year since they will be doing a world tour this Summer.
