  • In our Swara Sthanas Simplified series, we are happy to pursue a new thread where we would be doing some exercises to get better at listening and ear training.
In this session, Ram is just trying to identify if a given note is below Pa or above Pa. Rasikas can also do it along with him and let us know how easy or difficult it was for them to do this exercise. Please do like and share this video and we will be waiting for your comments as well :)

Thank you rasikas for all your wonderful comments and words of encouragement for this new series. This series is a kind of live experiment with Ram :). I plan to make this journey easy for both Ram and all of you by going just one step at a time. Rest assured, with practise and patience, we would definitely reach our long term goal of swara identification! Best wishes and congratulations to all the rasikas who got all the answers right! Stay tuned and do share these videos with your other music loving friends

Wow! Thanks a zillion...I got all the excercises right...never even imagined i will be able to guess the swara position with akaram or thadharina.....but one clue Ma'am was giving away is that...all akarams above pa had higher volume and lower ones had lower volume...nevertheless...i also noticed how much the head movement and widening of mouth/lips corners towards ears vary as we go up the octave! amazing amazing! romba romba nandri.....lower the octave, frowning emoji, higher the octave, grinning ear to ear emoji...lol....

Congratulations and thanks for your kind words! All these small things you noticed are also helpful I guess....but I would suggest you repeat the exercise by not looking at the video....only listening to the audio and see if you get it all right!

@@ragasurabhi yes, surely! again, your feedback only reiterates the fact that how much a guru is indispensable to learn carnatic - even if one is naturally gifted! I will listen closing my eyes and repeat the exercises, lot of aalaaps available in youtube....! Thank you so much!

Like uma mam has rightly mentioned, this is indeed the starting point for swara identification that is bases on training our ears. I am sure this is one of the tips that music teachers like me can use , while training the students. Thanks uma and ram .

  • @hariharanthangaraj5173

Beautiful session Mam 🥰Thanks a lot for Sharing such an amazing lesson. This is just like a varaprasadham for people like us who missed to learn Carnatic Music in younger age.. I like Ram Sir’s reaction 🥰while he tries to identify the swaram whether it is above or below Pa swaram.🥰🙏

Great initiative Madam.Pl clear my doubt Mam.Shall I identify songs which are set in same base pitch or can we identify swaras of songs set in different base pitch initially. Also if we are not a singer also what's the procedure to grasp swarasthanas.Pl suggest a methodical way so that we could just stick with that for improved results.....
