It's just incredible the way Frankie Boyle manages to come across as a provocative asshole, a silly giggling clown, and the most brilliant insightful compassionate awesome human being.
One thing, as a man from Lancashire, I am jealous of Scotland's comedians being able to take the piss out of the English without any doubt if it's a legitimate target. As so many English vote Tory I find myself a misanthrope towards my own nation! Fellow northern socialists and rare southern socialists apart! Along with Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr, my two favourite comedians here!
I listen to a lot of Scottish radio including comedy, even tho I don't always understand it. Either the accents, or the references!! But it's always a great atmosphere. Breaking the News. Out of Doors. Two of my favourites. I am english and often deeply ashamed of the English, it's way beyond being funny.

Because they kind of are! Your parents/ancestors will have likely come from people like the Scottish. I find that the Australian people can be very similar to Scottish people in their sense of humour at times. We find it very easy to get on with Aussies anyways! :)

I remember thinking Frankie Boyle was hilarious when I was around 13. Now when I watch his stuff (including his old stuff) I can see why I thought that, he appeals to the terrible taste of the average 13-year-old boy. He's really not funny or insightful or intelligent at all. His comedy revolves around shock value, which would be fine if there was actually something substantial backing it up. Unfortunately there really isn't.
I don't think you can say he isn't intelligent. If his comedy isn't to your taste that's totally fine and subjective. He's clearly an intellectual guy.
