Will Mario Odyssey 2 Finally Release in 2023?

- Super Mario Odyssey is my favorite game ever made and since it's release I have enjoyed every second of it. With it being super popular as well, it has lead many people to ask if there will ever be a super mario odyssey 2. Strangely enough the first game never got any real DLC besides a few costumes. So in todays video I'm going to look over some evidence like the mario movie and the legend of zelda tears of the kingdom to determine if mario odyssey 2 will release in 2023!

I definitely do think we’re going to be getting some type of of brand new Mario game in 2023, I don’t think SMO 2 is entirely unlikely. There’s just some other possibilities.

I think it's insane that June is in 2 days and nothing Mario has been announced yet. Nintendo makes really odd decisions, and I don't think anyone is able to predict what they'll do next.

I really do hope we at least get a new mainline Mario game this year. I'd love to have a new Mario game to be excited about, since that's the franchise that got me into playing video games in the first place.
I want it to be a very open world, Bowser's Fury open world level, of not bigger. They can still have an Odyssey 2 with this format and having one big world like Bowser's Fury would be a blast.

I just replayed and 100% odyssey for the first time and it became up there with my favorites, it would be really weird if Nintendo didn’t make a sequel considering how many people loved the game and how many mods have been made with extra kingdoms and whatnot

8:30 What I don't often hear from people talking about potential ideas for an Odyssey sequel is revisiting already existing kingdoms. Most kingdoms are most likely bigger than just the level we play, so why wouldn't they make a level which is for example a different district of Metro or another dome in Wooded.
It would be amazing if Super Mario Odyssey 2 or a similar Mario Game was announced in the movie like that time Super Mario Bros 3 was a while ago!

I just think Odyssey 2 will be first seen in 2024 because I think they will make a Mario Movie game for 2023 and Nintendo will worry more about how that will do and how Tears of kingdom would be doing.

Personally I think we are getting a 2D Mario for 2023 but either one I would adore. If they do Mario Odyssey 2 then I hope they focus a little more on the captures and linear platforming. The captures need more developed movesets and the linear platforming needs better presentation than just floating blocks (plus it needs to be harder to navigate the overworld, have u seen the bowser kingdom.) Level ideas I would love for a new Mario (2d or 3d) would be:
Some sort of factory, kind of like Toads Factory from Mario Kart Wii. Shantae has a water factory in its mermaid falls level and something like that would be super cool.
An actual horror and cloud world. This one's was obvious. I hope they use the ruined kingdom aesthetic again for the horror world and they actually do something with the cloud world.
Somewhere overgrown. Like with kirby and the forgotten land being entirely overgrown in its locations.
A casino. This would be so cool. Maybe THIS could be the horror themed world with a king boo fight as a reference to the worst mainline Mario game.

I would love a return to Ruined Kingdom, I always said that was the kingdom with the most wasted potential, it was more than just a boss battle kingdom. Maybe we could even capture the dragon, if it was possible to capture the dragon and battle Bowser as a dragon would make it the best game ever.

The NES had an astonishing 4 main-line Mario games, the SNES only had 1, the N64 only had 1, the GameCube only had 1, the Wii had 2 for a change, the Wii U only had 1, and the Switch might actually have 2.
I would love to see a temporary P-Powerup that works similar to the P-Acorn in NSMBU where it gives you infinite cap bounces for one use until you land

You say this is only the 2nd largest gap between 3D Marios, but the next game almost certainly cannot possibly release until late 2023, and by that point it will have indeed been 6 years, just like 64 and Sunshine. So that’s even more justification for it happening in 2023, I’d say :) Also, in what I believe was an interview of some sort, it was confirmed that the development of Bowser’s Fury took about a year, which would mean they started it in early 2020 or so. There’s no way they went all the way from SMO’s release to that moment without working on the next mainline Mario. And now they’ve had two more years AFTER the release of Bowser’s Fury to keep working on it. So that’s, at the bare minimum, 4 years of development already. This means they’re almost certainly approaching completion, given how long the development of 3D Marios have taken in the past. Fully agree with all of the other points you made, too. Really well made video, here’s hoping for SMO2 in 2023 🤞

1) its advertised as a separete game from 3D world
2) it plays like Oddesey (in concept at least)

I’d say there is still a chance the 2023 holiday title is either a new Donkey Kong or Metroid Prime 4 instead of a Mario game. (Both would probably be on the lower end of sales though.
There is also the rumor that the odyssey team is working on a 3d Donkey Kong game, wich is also hype since the last dk game was released in 2014, and the last 3d dk game was released in 1999

My only personal issue with the sequel argument you presented is that with Mario Galaxy 2, is that it was announced after only 2 years from the original release. There’s no doubt they likely started working on it almost right away, and because they we’re reusing similar assets, it made sense. The game came out 3 years after the first. But for a possible Mario Odyssey 2, they’ve sort of missed the ideal sequel hype window, with at minimum, six years passing between original and sequel. Of course this doesn’t mean it couldn’t still happen, but if they were reusing base assets to work on a sequel, it seems strange for it to take this long if that was really the case.
Also, Pauline is in the Mario movie (leaked) so there’s a chance it’s connected to odyssey as that is her most popular appearance
I think that SMO2 will come out this year just bc I think the next console will come out in 2026-2027 and Mario Galaxy 2 was released around 3 years before the Wii U came out (The next big console for Nintendo after the Wii (Just didn't hit expectations)) So my prediction is that SMO2, if it comes out this year, will come out most likely anytime from July to November 2023!
The next console will not come out in 2027. Nintendo would’ve exhausted their reserviour of ips. 2024-2025 seems far more likely.

I imagine we'll get some sort of confirmation that another 3D Mario game next year, but I can't see it coming out the same year. If so, it'll probably be late year like Odyssey was.
Also, Bowsers Fury was primarily developed by NST and 1UP Studio, Mario Team obviously worked on it, but it was definitely not a priority

I personally was never expecting one, but I certainly wouldn't mind a sequel to Odyssey.
I'm thinking Pikmin 4 will try to be the big holiday release this year, really pushing it and attempting to make it as big of a deal as Miyamoto originally wanted it to be. Either that, or Metroid Prime 4 will finally be revealed and released.

6:56 I don't think that's a good argument, because that was on the Wii, where there was a major issue:
Hardware limitations, particularly online functionality and storage. The Wii can't even spell "Update" let alone "Add-on", the only game that had an update was Skyward Sword, which required you to download one of the only things you can still get from the Wii Shop Channel. Sure, there were a few third-party games that got add-ons (the only one that comes to mind are the Just Dance series), but they usually took up around 40MB of the around 400MB you could mess around with on a Wii each. Now how big is Galaxy 2? Well, it's 1.29GB in .wbfs format, which is the most compressed format right now with still being able to read/playable on Dolphin or a console. I doubt most people will be able to put that with the 200MB left on their Wii (assuming they've played 15-20 other games, around 20 Miis created, and installed the Wii Fit Channel).
The more we go without seeing Odyssey 2, the more I believe they'll make another 3D Mario built off of Odyssey's engine. Odyssey 2 would be extremely safe and while I absolutely see the strong chance of Odyssey 2 being our “one more announcement” in February or March for the hype it would generate. I feel like there is also a solid chance of a whole new experience with just how long we've waited. A new 3D Mario is definitely overdue though so I'm absolutely certain we will see SOMETHING within the next year, no matter what it will be.
I think if it would’ve been just an odyssey 2, we would’ve seen it by now. They probably will have a bigger Mario game this year like they do every year, but I don’t think it’s odyssey 2. Even a new 3D Mario is probably gonna release on the switch 2 instead, which speaking of, I feel the game is gonna be a lot more like bowsers fury then odyssey. Just take the core idea, make the maps bigger, have there be 5-8 maps depending on the size, and that’s a golden setup for the next game. I’d imagine it to be sorta like the starfall islands in sonic frontiers, but with the bowsers fury elements and continuing the unique set pieces of odyssey to keep it fresh for each map.
I guess Metriod Prime 4 could be the holiday 2023 release too?

What if instead of staying on the same same planet they have to go to others? I know that just sounds like Galaxy but I think it would be cool to explore different planets that have a few kingdoms each. Either that or each planet be its own open world maybe.

Some reasons why I don't think we'll get an odyssey sequel is for one, galaxy 2 did not take nearly as long to develop as this hypothetical odyssey 2. Another reason is with bowsers fury coming out I think they are hinting to a completely new idea, an open zone mario game.
