    I think they are too much underestimating the popularity of One Piece. One Piece is literally the best selling manga of all time with 2 times Guinness World Record, Number 1 best selling manga for 11 consecutive years (2008 to 2018) and also the top 3 most demanding anime of all time behind JJK and ATOT with the few percentage difference. The manga is still more and more hype with new chapter releases too. I hope them to understand what they are dealing with.

    just to share my experience.. my boys and I drove over @ 3:30 and got to the wait list line around 4:55. We ended up being # 48,49, & 50, so we got in. but dang i felt bad for the people that showed up just after us. You make a great point FL is a very popular place for TCGs , but Kissimmee is such a central hub for Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, and obviously Orlando. You hit it on the head when you say we shouldn't have had to share a venue given how popular OPTCG is. As a player in the main event, I personally didn't run into any hiccups, aside from maybe prize pickup at the end of the day (was a bit chaotic).

    Honestly, the whole regional industry is scruffed. It's not, I mean it never was, but it's far more so now all about getting people in, charging them, and getting them out.
    The companies who run the majority of events are a pseudo monopoly, so it's always one of a few and they're always lackluster.
    I wish regionals were actually nice events with a focus on quality. Good video VV. Keep on keeping on.

    We got there at 4 and was the first in the wait line. I spoke with the gentleman running it the day before and he told us that we had to share the venue with magic because they booked the event and one piece was given to PPG without enough time to book a proper venue. I don’t think they should have turned spectators away because magic was empty they used maybe a quarter of the tables at the most. They tried to do the best they could with what they were given. The app they used was also buggy and we had to use the website.

    Super sorry to hear this brother. From what I've been hearing a lot of the events have been very lackluster and unorganized. Which In my opinion is unacceptable for Bandai to allow this to continue, we have tournaments capped at 500 people, like come on. One Piece could've filled that venue by itself. Every big tournament sells out in less than an hour and you're blessed to even be able to get in to them. I haven't been able to make an event yet as they're always full and a lot of players come from the West Coast where Im located. It makes me sad, One Piece and Bandai have a unique opportunity to push One Piece into another stratosphere with proper tournaments. Here's hoping they learn that they're only biting the hand that feeds them

  • @bridges1432

    Couple things i can think of that caused the venue issue.
    1. Wotc has gutted pro play they don't want you to be about to make a living at it so the events aren't nearly packed as they were back in the day
    2. There may not have been enough available venue staff to have more of the venue open.
    3. Mtg events don't sell out in minutes like op events. We drive 8 hours and some of our guys signed up the night before to a 20k mtg event and it only filled to half capacity. They most likely were planning for more day or walk ins.
    4. Both events would have had a person cap that is dictated by the fire code. If the venue was allowed 5000 people based on maximum occupancy they would have subtracted staff and then split it down the middle. Its why you could get mtg spectator pass but not one for op. As dumb as their allocation is its based off maximum occupancy set by fire code
    That said they could have easily filled the other side with op or did a 25%mtg 75%op split

    Had some friends go down from Georgia who were able to actually get in, I was gonna tag along and try to get in as a last minute, but after hearing from you and them I’m happy I didn’t. I remember when I played YuGiOh you get to the event at 9, it starts at 10 and you were golden. Maybe a round one loss, but you could play. The way Bandai has been handling regionals and larger events leaves a lot to be desired and I hope they realize that they’re just losing money by continuing this way. But hopefully it changes soon. 🤞 We’ll see though

    This is super discouraging as a new player. I’ve spent almost 4k since January on my collection and deck building and I love the arts and the game as much as I love the show. I’ve put aside money to buy boxes and even cases for sets later this year but I’m wondering if it will ever be worth it from a competitive standpoint. It’s already hard enough for me to get to an event being a single dad but if I’d have gotten there and couldn’t get in I’d be pissed. I’m only about an hour and a half south of Orlando too. I will say I like my local shop and they try hard to take care of us and keep us competing. I haven’t been interested in Tcg since I quit yugioh around 2006. I want so much for this game to flourish and stick around for as long as possible.

    Definitely a TO Issue, not sure why PPG is heavily underestimating how many players want to play one piece, but hopefully this is a lesson for them.
    I went to the Niagara Falls Regional hosted by Carta Magica this same weekend, and it was run smoothly, 1014 person event, completely maxed out venue, had a stream, was run smoothly and i think about 100 waitlisted people were able to join in the morning of.

  • @Tremor1400
    @Tremor1400 Před 4 měsíci

    I was a player at this event, successfully enrolled and registered, and I completely agree that the event was poorly managed. The actual main event ran smoothly (for me at least) and I enjoyed my first regional experience play-wise. What I don’t understand (which are some of your talking points), is why the venue was cut in half, and in half again to split magic and OP. If they just knew the waitlist size, I’m sure they have access to see how many people signed up for waitlist, just make the venue bigger and change the cap size. I don’t think it was poorly ran per se, but it was definitely poorly managed. And don’t even get me started on the phone service 🤣

  • @Renegade3540
    @Renegade3540 Před 4 měsíci +2

    Just to clarify:
    Bandai are the ones who decide the capacity for events as they are the ones providing price support. PPG at the end of the day doesn't have much control over this.
    Capacity limits are a real thing for venues because you have to adhere to fire code and PPG is responsible for the safety of everyone. Complaining about them adhering to these capacity limits is ridiculous. Clearly they reserved spots for MTG and OP and if the OP spots are filled then it is what it is. 25$ for a spectator pass is ridiculous though I'll give you that.
    Outside of those two things I completely get the frustration regarding the demand vs the offer on Bandai events. I just feel like attacking the TOs like this is not the solution as they are a 3rd party in a lot of these decisions. I'm not saying there aren't valid complaints and even the event as is could have been run better regarding space allocation for mtg vs OP, but a lot of complaints (why not allow more players, why share a venue, why not hire more of the venue, why not allow more spectators) have a decently logical explanation for it.

    I was a player, had signed up online, no issues. Main event was great. No real issues, other than my own misplays and doing poorly. And seeing the laughable magic turnout. It was baffling to my play group that they gave magic so much room when there were empty tables. Should have moved the divider to give OP more room.
    1 thing that people dont understand tho: Bandai sets the player caps, not the individual TOs. Why it is year 2 and they dont understand events should be 1024 players minimum, I dont know. Their NEXT plan is for all future events as well (so anything that has registration after the video came out). This event seemed like a co-op by PPG and Salt Fest (Cool Stuff Inc or someone hosting that I think). But back in Aug, they had the whole room and there was barely extra space. This game has exploded since then and they give us a third of the space we had last time.
    Waitlisting needs to be handled almoat exclusively in some other manner, or announced ahead of time. We had friends that were gonna waitlist in person and we thought theyd be pretty early in the line at 5:30. Nope, they needed to get there by 3am for a spot. My friend's wife had gotten in via the online waitlist. It just sucks that hundreds of people woke up super early and wasted a night of could-be-sleep and still didnt get into the event.

  • @drago939393
    @drago939393 Před 3 měsíci

    I mean, I think this is a bit overblown, tho I get the frustration when in affects you in person. The simple answer is likely that the organizers had an estimate about what the turnout would be and selected the venue based on that, opting to pay for X amount of space; can't really change that on the fly. As far as we know the venue leasers were terrible to work with.
    It also only makes sense to organize a 2-in-1 (or more) events across multiple games too. I assume that they had more people for MTG at a different timetable tbh. This is a low-budget yet privileged hobby to begin with, you gotta take what you can get, it's not exactly going to be top of the line, major league sport-level accommodation and logistics.

  • @TruAbsoluteZer0
    @TruAbsoluteZer0 Před 4 měsíci

    Ok so i can explain this vv because i used to work at a venue like that when i was in the dells. Becaude i worked at the wilderness resort and we had/ have those walls there. The reason why you wouldnt have access to it is that
    1. They did pay for it
    2. They could have wanted to pay for it but someone rented it out
    3. It wouldve required set up for that side of the room and etc and if ppg didnt expect to fill up the whole room then it xoule be wasted money so they probably did it to be safe even though in hindsight it would be the opposite

      1 magic is falling offf hard. 2 they had more than half their side of the venue as completely empty. Which could have been used for 1 peace. 3 there is no honor in buisness. They don’t need to feel honored to share a gaming space with a game as old as magic when one piece is actually on the rise and being bought out and have events at max capacity. Tbh magic should feel honored to be in the presence of such a successful game. 4 again magic is a dying game. Standard hardly exists same with modern. Edh is the soul reason for magic the gatherings survival as a game. I started the my card journey with yugioh and magic so there is a place in my heart for it. but magic is now a just and all they did was take up space and opportunity for a upcoming game that needs it. Magics time is over it’s done the only people who say anything different are edh players and modern players 👍

We invest so much time and money to prep to be denied. Id urge you to give ppg another chance. This is the first ppg event in 7 years ive been to that was so awful. I truly dont think any of us expected so many people to show up for the last chance line. George is also pretty good about communicating feedback to Bandai, so this could actually lead to some positive change on bandais front. Another disaster so soon after nats is pretty alarming.
    I was also confused why ppg was sharing the venue with cool stuff games, probably just trying to capitilize on what is usually wasted space and increase profits some. Which isnt a horrible idea looking back at how much extra space we had last time at that hall when 300+ waitlisters/spectators didnt show up.
    Last thing i really preferred how they did the waitlist last time. Sending out the emails at 9p or whatever it was friday night. Looks pretty simple. They had a capacity as part of their event license and they had to run 2 events on 1 weekend. There are agreements and contracts with venue spaces and ordanances. The extra space was likely not rented and moving into it wasnt allowed. Unless they own the whole building they paid for a certain amount for their event and no more.
